Description
Today’s guest is FINA Masters World Champion, Hawaii Ironman Triathlete and Noosa Swim Coach - Jan Croft. We chat to the very humble Jan about her inspiring swimming journey. Jan swam in the golden age of Australian swimming in the 50’s to 60’s, and as a nationally ranked 400 and 800m swimmer, she narrowly missed the 1960 Australian Olympic team and the 1962 Commonwealth Games team. We find out why she ended up working as a coach for Don Talbot when she retired in 1962 and how this set her on a coaching journey.Jan won the 800m Freestyle at the 1988 FINA world masters after 26 years out of the water, but didn’t race again in masters swimming for 20 yrs, because she decided to try triathlons! She was pretty successful at those too, getting herself on the podium at the Hawaii Ironman. We find out why she came back to masters swimming; how much she enjoys coaching swimmers at the Noosa Aquatic Centre in Queensland and what keeps her motivated to keep training and racing.
