But the truth is, our daily eating schedule—three meals a day, plus snacks—does not necessarily reflect our bodies’ natural cycles. Cole’s book is all about intuitive fasting. When you fast, it is calming down the inflammatory cascades that are going on. Also, fasting doesn’t mean that you are cutting calories. Instead, you're eating the same number of foods, you're just eating in specific windows to give your body a little bit more of a fasting time than you normally would. The more often you can fast, you're going to be able to regenerate and repair the gut in a big way. Digesting food requires a lot of energy; so, you're giving your gut a break to not work on digesting food. [13:45]
