Change Your Perspective Change Your Life - Discover How To Reduce Your Suffering And Enjoy Your Life By Mastering Your Emotions - Sensei Pauld David
Introduction
Watch your thoughts, they become words; watch your words, they become actions; watch your actions, they become habits; watch your habits, they become character; watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.
Frank Outlaw
One of the most important lessons I learned early in life was that my emotions are products of my perspective. Don’t get me wrong; I do not mean to say that there is no such thing as a sad event. Of course, certain situations are unprecedentedly disappointing, such as the loss of a loved one, a divorce, the loss of one’s job, etc.
No one desires such situations and, naturally, we are disappointed when they occur. Nonetheless, despite how hurt we are by those experiences, what determines whether they will make us suffer depends on our perception of the situation. If you perceive an event as an occurrence that will ruin your life, you will struggle to recover from it.
On the other hand, when you convince yourself that an occurrence is a blessing in disguise that will help you to live your best life, you will find yourself enjoying a new lease on life. If you desire to suffer less, despite experiencing painful events, this is the right book for you; I guarantee that you will thoroughly enjoy this journey. I am so excited to get started! Today is a good day!
Chapter One: Pain Is Inevitable
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
Dalai Lama
We live in an imperfect world. Therefore, it is unrealistic to expect to live without pain and challenges. When people make marriage vows, they declare their commitment to stay with one another during turbulence and affluence. Sadly, that is not always the reality because many people jump ship the moment a storm is looming. We might not like it but pain and adversity are part and parcel of life. This reality is the focal point of this chapter.
No Anesthesia
William T.G. Morton, a Boston dentist, used sulfuric ether on October 16, 1846, to anesthetize a man during the removal of a vascular tumor from his neck. This trailblazing medical breakthrough was vividly described in The Painful Story Behind Modern Anesthesia
by Dr. Howard Markel. Since then, during surgical operations, anesthetics have been used to help people avoid the excruciating pain that comes with opening up and closing the human body as was the case in the earlier years of medical
