    Introduction

            The City of Boulder is at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Northern Colorado.  There is a college located there and the city is known currently for being quiet and tranquil.  In years past gold seekers flocked to that location hoping to strike it rich.  The Ramseys moved there from Atlanta in 1991 and resided in a wealthy neighborhood and seem to have everything going for them.  They were well known in the community, had a network of friends and had a bright future ahead of them. Little did they know their almost perfect lives would be turned upside the day after Christmas in 1996.   

            On the night of the December 25th, 1996, the Ramsey family went out to dinner at a friend’s house and returned home around 9:45 P.M.  They were going to be travelling the following day via private jet and went to bed shortly after arriving home.  There was nothing unusual about the evening or their plans for the following day.  People regularly travel over the Christmas holidays as school is not is session and the break gives working people some time off. John Ramsey owned a successful computer equipment manufacturing company and he was married to Patsy who was a former beauty pageant contestant.  They had two kids, one boy and one girl.  The boy was age nine and named Burke, the girl was named Jon Benet and she was age six.
