NUTJOBS AND SAVAGES

1. Pulses Matter Not

Helena would go for anything with a pulse. The problem was that she would go for anything without a pulse too.

‘Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. The pirates are demanding just one volunteer and as soon as we’ve handed the volunteer over, we’ll be free to go.’

3. There’s a First Time for Everything

It was the first time Jane had beaten other people at something. She was sold for twice as much money as the next most popular girl that night.

4. The Dentist’s Drill

I screamed at the psychotic dentist to let me go. ‘That drill’s meant to be for teeth!’ I yelled as he pressed the drill against my chest.

5. The Value of a Child

I thought that my daughter wouldn’t make it past 10. To my surprise, she attracted a dozen bids and the highest bidder assured me he would get his money’s worth.

6. You’re Not Needed

It was women and children only. The pirates made it clear they had no use for us men.

7. Hasn’t Got a Clue

‘Waiter, there’s a fly in my soup.’ I’m glad she hasn’t noticed the pill I slipped into her drink, the waiter thought to himself as he attended to the sole diner in the restaurant.

8. Stories Unshared

They say dead men tell no tales. Some living men can’t if you know what to cut off.

9. Stuck for Good

There’s no way Barry will get out of the house alive. The way he’s tied up, he won’t even make it out of the basement.

10. I Didn’t Mean Them!

Before I went away on my week-long business trip, I told my husband to sell our most valuable possessions as he was unemployed and we were struggling for money. I returned home to find my twin girls gone and my husband fanning himself with a wad of cash.
