Wine Not? - D. T. Adams
1. ROCKET FUEL
It’s an amazing substance with magical,
Transformational properties.
It’s a liquid that gushes down my throat
And winds its way through my body,
Enhancing my very being
And exaggerating all aspects of my personality.
I liken it to rocket fuel
And I crave it wholeheartedly.
Imbibing that sweet, precious alcohol
Unlocks parts of me that have long lain dormant.
They are stirred,
They awaken,
And they come to the fore.
These parts of my essence are now unfettered,
No longer bounded by nerves or fear.
They’re temporarily unleashed
And are free to exult in their liberty,
Running riot and making the most
Of the few hours they have,
Causing merry chaos.
With them unlocked,
I’m able to act and speak without restriction.
Reservation, filters and decorum
Are all left behind.
The fuel both thrills and enthrals me;
It amazes, delights and astounds me.
I’m an adult man living my life
In a tiny parcel of the Earth’s land.
Yet when the rocket fuel starts affecting me,
I begin to feel as if I’m floating away from it.
Gravity holds my corporeal side down,
But nothing can prevent my mind
From rising higher and higher into the sky.
The more fuel I consume,
The more altitude my mental side gains,
And the further away from my regular persona I get.
When there’s a copious amount of alcohol
Coursing around inside me,
My mind tells me
I’m beyond the bounds of the atmosphere.
It wants me to believe I’m somewhere far away
From man’s humble abode,
And that I have so much more
To explore, discover and take in.
I’ve passed the sphere of Earth
And everything that lies within.
I’m somewhere new, somewhere infinitely vast.
Whenever I’m in this drunken stupor,
I always want more alcohol, more rocket fuel.
There’s already a significant amount of the stuff in me,
Powering me up and sending me soaring into space.
There’s so much potential,
Far too much for me to experience in my lifetime.
If my body could tolerate it,
I would consume more of the exhilarating fuel
And travel even further away from everything down below,
Setting off on a trajectory into the depths of space,
Venturing into the unknown.
I have an innate
