The Vampire & The Virgin 2 - Lee Cushing
Chapter One
The late afternoon sun bathed Beverview Girls High in a warm glow, illuminating the wide three-storey building. At the left end of the third floor, Miss Parker, a female teacher dressed in a long white skirt and lavender top, stood at the whiteboard, her back to the students. With a black marker in hand, she scribbled letters onto the board, her voice carrying across the classroom as she explained the lesson. The students, all females dressed in uniforms, sat in rows facing the board. Those in the front and middle diligently copied down the notes, their pens scratching against paper. However, a few in the back seemed more interested in doodling or passing notes than paying attention.
Dressed in her school uniform, Katie Blake sat with her skirt riding high on her thighs, her tie absent and mismatched earrings, a stud and a dangling earring, adorning her ears. Twirling a strand of her black hair, she squinted at the lush chocolate brown hair of Harmony Phillips, who sat in front of her with her hair neatly tied back. With a smirk, Katie popped her gum in her mouth, and rolled a paper ball, tossing it at Harmony's head with precision. Harmony flinched slightly, pausing her writing to ball her hand into a fist as she stared at her notebook hard. Beside Katie, two other girls dressed similarly giggled at the scene loudly.
Miss Parker paused mid-scribble and pivoted back to face the class, a furrow forming between her brows as she surveyed the row of girls who had suddenly become engrossed in their notebooks. With a subtle squint, she narrowed her eyes at the bowed heads and seemingly diligent scribbling, her lips pressing into a thin line. It was a familiar sight, these sudden bursts of industry whenever trouble was afoot. Beneath her professional facade, a flicker of frustration danced in her gaze, silently lamenting the lack of engagement and the persistent challenge of maintaining order in her classroom.
I know you three are responsible for the noise in my class even though you’re going to pretend you’re not.
Her smooth voice filled the air as she placed her hands on her hips.
Katie lifted her head, an innocent look on her face, as she glanced around before her eyes settled on Miss Parker. I don’t think that’s right Miss.
Rea—
The final school bell rang, cutting off Miss Parker’s words.
She shook her head and then began to pack up her notes on the desk in front of her. That’ll be all for today’s class. Ensure to turn in your assignments in our next class.
Harmony quickly packed up her things as well, and the second Miss Parker exited the class, she did as well, ignoring the calls of Katie and her clique. She raced down the hallway, weaved her way through the sea of students and finally made it out of the school and to the bus park which had very few people as the students from school were still yet to get here. With a sigh of relief, she settled on the bench at the park and began to pray for the bus to arrive early, early enough to avoid Katie catching up with her.
Would you like to have a sweet, my dear?
An old woman with gray hair and looking to be in her seventies, asked in a shaky voice as she sat beside Harmony on the bench, and stretched out her hand which held a lollipop.
With a weary smile on her face, Harmony shook her head in a negative response. No, thank you.
The woman nodded, a crinkly smile on her lips as she retrieved her outstretched arms, opened the lollipop’s wrapper and then stuck it into her mouth. Tastes sweet.
Her words mushed out with the lollipop.
Harmony diverted her attention from the woman to her legs which she had unconsciously been tapping nervously on the ground once again. The second she stopped, her phone pinged, signaling an incoming message.
Reaching into her backpack, she took out the phone and a frown covered her face when she saw only a strange number with no name on the screen. Swiping the answer button, she slowly raised the phone and pressed it to her ear, not saying a word after the call connected.
Hello?
A feminine voice from the other end of the call finally spoke.
Hello?
Harmony voiced back into her phone, her voice filled with uncertainty.
Am I speaking with Harmony Phillips?
Yes... who is this please?
The frown on Harmony’s face deepened as she pressed the phone to her ear even more.
Great. This is star entertainment and I’m pleased to let you know that you’ve been selected to cast the female lead role in our upcoming movie.
The voice cheerily announced.
The frown on her face was immediately replaced with a dumbfounded look. Me? I got the role?
Indeed you did.
The voice affirmed. Now, I have sent you an email with regards to this and if you’ve got time this evening by 5pm, could you make it to the company for the briefing?
Harmony immediately took the phone off her ear and glanced at the time which read 3:59pm. She bit her bottom lip as she watched the bus finally come into view, and placed the phone back on her ear. Sure, I think I can make it.
Great, go through the email and see you in an hour.
The call ended the second the bus pulled up and without waiting, Harmony jumped up and hopped on the bus. After getting a seat, she opened up her email and saw the confirmation letter sent by Star Entertainment. A smile spread out on her face when she realized that the call was real and she hadn’t been dreaming.
Not long after, the bus pulled up at her stop and the second she got down, she raced down her street and towards her house. The house was a simple looking one with just a ground floor and first floor. It looked deserted, the windows all tightly shut and Harmony breathed another sigh of relief as she realized her mother hadn’t gotten back from work. Letting herself into the house with her key, she barely made it past the living room when a slim woman with lush brown
