Treva Scott Thompson

When Treva Scott Thompson was a small child, God found her. She was afraid of God because of the way the preachers talked about condemnation, guilt, and hell. Now, she knows that we have a loving Father who we can walk and talk with, and He will never forsake us. We can rely on His words the same as Jesus did, and His words never failto comfort and lead us into all truth. We need only to write His words upon our hearts and minds, and God will bring them back to our remembrance when we need them. That is one way God speaks to us.

Words Are Alive - Treva Scott Thompson

    Dedicated to my children:

    Joni Lynn Soale, who has been very helpful;

my son, Brent Eugene Soale, and his family.

    Introduction

I drafted these essays at different times, so some things may be repeated. I find some of the words that are repeated are words that need to be remembered and engraved in our hearts and minds. Since they are in different situations, I left them.

God has been so good to me to bring me out and free my spirit. I was in church every time the doors were open. I was at the altar asking forgiveness for my sins every week. I thought God was a hard taskmaster. The preachers taught condemnation, guilt—do this, and do that, and God will love you. I had nightmares as a child of going down a tunnel into a burning hell. I was afraid to tell anyone, because I thought I was wrong. Everyone else did not seem to be afraid.

As I got older and began reading the scriptures and seeking answers, I could hear a voice inside of me, crying out: Let my people go! I was down in Egypt, trying to work my way to God. Pharoah had me bound, hand and foot. Moses was crying out to me: Let my people go!

As I searched the scriptures diligently, God began to lead me out of bondage. It took several years, for I was afraid of God. I did not think He loved me. If God did not love me, then there was not any hope. He gently led me until I

believed. His Word came to life for me. There was no guilt, no condemnation, no unbelief. Fear was gone.

There is no greater love than His love. That is the Gospel of Peace.

A Love Not Known to Man

I’ve never known such love as this (that He laid down His life for His friends).

Jesus found me when I was just a little girl and afraid of a lot of things. Jesus began to woo me and tell me of His great love, and to show me that there has never been a love such as His love. A love that sees no evil in us. He conquered evil for us, and He looks on our hearts. He conquered all we will ever face. Although our minds will be the last thing to embrace that truth, it is truth, and it will stand.

Down through the years, with all the aches, pains, conflicts, and heartaches, never once did He leave me nor forsake me, nor make me feel alone. He was always there to lift my load and whisper sweet music to my ears.

Sometimes He has had to repeat His goodness to me. Year after year, the same thing He has had to repeat to me. Most people don’t want to repeat the same thing twice. Never once did He not want to help me. That is all He knows—to help and heal.

God loves us with a love I can’t even comprehend. A love that has never failed.

When I am not good to myself, He is there to show me the way. When I mistreat someone, He gently shows me how to do better.

He has walked every step that I will ever take. He overcame everything that comes against me. He was victorious and knows what it takes to endure.

While growing up as a carpenter, He studied the Bible and wrote it all on His heart. When in the synagogue, He quoted the Word. He was only twelve years of age, but He was rooted and grounded in the Word. He lived the Word while here on earth and used the Word to overcome his enemies. He did not try the Word to see if it would work. He knew it would work, and He staked His life on that fact. He gave His life for the Word. We are afraid to speak the Word, afraid we don’t believe it enough; He was sure it would not fail. There was not a doubt in Jesus’ mind, because He believed in His Father.

When He needed reinforcement, He got away from the crowd and prayed. He said He didn’t do anything except what His Father told Him to do.

He fought His earthly mind as we fight our earthly minds. That is our cross. We have an elder brother, Jesus, who overcame the cross. So, we know of a surety that we will too.
