    VIP Tango - Tiny Sparks

    Chapter One

    Saskia

Getting ready for the day ahead wasn’t always an easy task. My sister borrows my clothes all the time. There was no way of knowing which outfit would be available.

Where’s my white blouse? I threw everything that resembled the shirt onto my bed.

    Laundry, my sister yelled back.

Fuck. What the hell would be decent enough? I chose a blue one, it was slightly wider than my usual shirts. The other two were washed, but I hadn’t had the time to iron. My sister went to her ‘work’ every evening and slept in during the day. She’d just arrived when I got ready to leave. The description she gave for her job was; bouncer at a local strip club. As if a mini skirt and a blouse that’s too small for her, would be worn by bouncers. She’s 5-foot-6 like me, but that’s where the similarities ended. Her boobs stretched my clothes to near bursting but were baggy over her butt. What I missed in the breasts department, she got, and what she missed in the ass department, I gained. With her high heels, she was still short. I’d pay to see her drag a guy out of the club. I stopped questioning her a long time ago. We’d just get in a fight that ended in tears.

I’m off. I grabbed my keys not expecting an answer with the shower running.

Okay, she shouted when I opened the door.

I cringed and apologized to our neighbor who frowned as if it was me doing the yelling. He’s one old geezer, always home, always complaining. Not to us, but to the owner. She knew our parents and knew him even longer. She calmed him down each time and relayed his issues to us. We tried to keep quiet in the beginning, until even the TV bothered him, which we never put loud, or the old-fashioned kettle which according to him whistled day and night. I was the only one using it, and I never used it after ten PM. That’s when we decided to not bother. At that point, my sister started working nights and loved nothing more than to bother him by stomping up the stairs. It didn’t bother other people because we lived on the first floor. I shrugged my winter coat over my vest and wrapped a thick scarf around my head.

Hurrying to my car, I gained my balance on the ice in time to prevent a fall. Once inside the car, I took the scarf off and cranked up the heat, thankful for the fast window-defrosting system.

Five minutes to eight, I pushed the door of the lobby of Hotel Ex open, not waiting for Jasper, the new porter.

Good morning, Peter. I rushed past my colleague to put my stuff in the back room.

And good morning to you. He scrutinized my clothes but refrained from commenting. I put my hair in a ponytail and helped with the check-outs.

I was handling the last guest when at eleven AM Peter left and took Jasper with him. They’d been dating for a few weeks now, and that’s why my schedule changed from a six AM start to eight. I didn’t mind at all.

Shrugging my jacket on, I wandered
