    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    PREFACE

Growing up in Jamaica, my mom provided a natural solution for our health conditions, whether we were ill or not. We came from a modest background, which did not give us access to a lot of western medicine; so, we had to use the natural remedies that were available. Due to limited healthcare infrastructure in many developing countries, we had to make do with the resources available.

I have always witnessed awesome results after each application, which led me to believe in the plant’s potential and its usage. My brother and I were always given a parasite cleanse once a year before we go back to school after each summer, and the things I witnessed that came out of me sealed my belief in herbal remedies. After contracting cold or other viruses, one of the first things that were recommended was a plant-based solution. It was often not the best tasting, but it has always sealed the deal.

As kids, we weren’t as fortunate as others were to be able to visit the doctor regularly. Therefore, our go-to solution came straight from the earth. Looking back, I realize how rich we were with the abundance of knowledge that came from this experience. I wouldn’t have asked for a better upbringing. I have learned that it’s not what you got but what you give; therefore, I’m willing to offer my lifelong expertise so we can all grow to be healthier, wealthier beings.

A young man’s journey to find health and happiness.

I’ve been practicing and reading many books about organic living for years, and I decided to offer what I’ve grasped to you guys. In this book, you’ll find information about getting started or continuing your health and wellness journey.

    FASTING

Fasting is an age-old practice with a long history of healing and spiritual significance. The benefits of fasting are innumerable. The benefits you’re about to see will most likely surprise you! When you don’t eat anything for long periods, your body can repair itself from the inside out.

The body is given a break from digestion, which can lead to weight loss and management. People can focus on their mental health since they are not consumed with food and everything that comes with it. Fasting also has spiritual benefits, as it can be seen as part of religious practice or spiritual discipline.

Intermittent fasting can affect metabolism by lowering insulin levels in the body. This can make it easier for your body to burn fat for fuel instead of storing it. Fasting is often associated with detoxification since the lack of food consumption can cause the release of toxins from cells around the digestive tract and liver while reducing inflammation throughout the body.

The process can be particularly beneficial for people dealing with any chronic illness, including Cancer, Heart Disease, Atherosclerosis, Dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, Diabetes, and chronic fatigue syndrome. When done properly, intermittent fasting can increase the lifespan of the cells in our body. Intermittent fasting is going for long periods without eating any food or caloric beverages, sometimes with water intake only. On an anecdotal level, people who fast regularly say they feel more energized and generally more positive.

There are many different fasting methods, so you can choose the one that best fits your lifestyle. Some people choose intermittent fasting for a few days of the week and continue with their normal eating schedule for the rest of the week. This is necessary for some people because it allows them to work or study without being hungry all day long and keeps their energy levels up. Other people choose to fast for a few days each month and have the rest of the time eating normally.

This is often done by religious groups and for those who are concerned about their diet. What these two methods have in common is that they simply don’t eat any food between certain times during the day, which can make them difficult for some people to maintain.

Some people eat only one meal per day and then fast for the rest of the day, which can help someone trying to lose weight or who has a hard time sticking with their diet. This method of intermittent fasting is also helpful for someone who needs a break from eating and has difficulty not being drawn into the food they love.

One of the most overlooked factors that will significantly improve our health conditions that most people take for granted is the absence of food. We live in a modern society that mainly emphasizes consuming meals three times a day which tends to become a habit due to constant repetition. At the same time, some eat themselves to death.

The mere thought of having one meal per day will literally make some people cringe, or they will typically say, I can’t do that. If that’s the case, you are right, or if you say that you can do it, then you are also right. Which choice will you choose?

Occasionally, I fast once per week on Fridays from 6 pm to 6 pm on Saturdays with only consuming fluids. From firsthand experience, I decided to go for a week without food. I was told I was a bit extreme for taking such a measure or sometimes called crazy. I’m always excited to hear these expressions of me, so I wanted to see if that was a fair statement.

I’m always intrigued to take on a challenge due to my competitive nature and the simple fact of proving others wrong. I’ve always known that the mind is the most powerful instrument a person has in their armory and can be used to achieve whatever it is set forth to conquer.

The first 48 hours of my ordeal went pretty well due to my mental preparation. The third day was quite challenging, and I could feel my energy getting extremely low due to the lack of our favorite food source, sugar. I never once doubted my ability to proceed because I knew it wouldn’t be a walk in the park and I would be a laughingstock. I was always tempted by food, especially the dish I enjoyed the most, curry chicken.

On the third day, I started to feel aches and pains that I had never felt before, and I tried to block this out of my mind as I continued with my journey. You could literally hear the rumbles in my stomach like it was about to be a rainstorm.

I mustered every bit of energy that I could find to help me proceed; then, I realized the more I ignored the pain, the less it became uncomfortable. Quickly I concluded that it was a mind over matter ordeal; however, it took great mental conditioning to help me surpass this obstacle. I was almost halfway through this experience and there was no way shape or form I was going to give in.

During the fourth and fifth day, it was getting way easier than I thought, my mind was less inclined to eat, and the smell of food was making me nauseous. I did not have an appetite for food, and the pain had been less severe than when I started.

My mind was so clear it was as if I was having my biological clock reset. I was functioning normally with a bit of hunger pain popping in now and then, but as soon as the pain raised its ugly head, I would drink a glass of fluid to ease the discomfort. My wife always tempted me with food, but I smiled and said, If I came this far, do you think I’m going to turn back now?

The six-day was at hand, and I was really being challenged with finding the energy to proceed, but I drifted back to my said formula that I used from the start. My strategy was to ignore the feeling and drink as much fluid as my body allowed me to while I was staring down the finish line.

At this point, I had already lost at least twenty pounds and I was looking like a bobblehead doll. My physique wasn’t as important as my will to finish what I started. I could hear myself cheering on myself and deeply having a mental conversation with my inner self saying that it would soon be done, and the end was near.

On the seventh and final day, I was easing through to the finish line like a real champ, singing victory songs; knowing that I had reached a significant milestone that I had never achieved. I had zero hunger pains, and my energy was quite normal. I knew I could have easily continued for another week or more. This was mind-blowing because I learned that a person could not survive without food for an extensive period.

As extreme as I am, I wanted to push the envelope a little more to see how much my body could take, so I decided to run a 5k to see if I was fooling myself or if this was the real deal. I wasn’t going to run as hard as I could because I knew I was in borderline starvation mode. To my surprise, when I was running, I felt as if I could have runway harder and a bit longer; I wasn’t feeling energy deprived or fatigued.

I ran twenty-four minutes, and without a doubt, I knew I could easily shave two seconds off that time frame. When I was done, I had a life-changing experience that it’s hard to put in writing for someone to comprehend without them doing it.

This moment showed me that I wasn’t a slave to food, and I could eat at my own will. This knowledge gives me an extra mental tool that makes me more capable of dealing with harsh conditions if they do arise.

    THE IMPORTANCE OF GUT HEALTH

The gut is a very important system. It connects your mouth to your anus, and it regulates the digestion of food, among other things. It plays a crucial role in this process. The gut contains several different organs, including the stomach, esophagus, large and small intestine. These organs work together to break down food and absorb the nutrients that the body needs to function properly. The gut is also home to a diverse community of microorganisms, known as the gut microbiome, which plays an important role in overall health.

It also serves as a barrier to infections and disease by acting as a channel for waste from the intestines. The gut’s structure, function, and growth are influenced by many factors, such as intestinal bacteria, metabolic disorders, inflammation, or infection.

Our gut is where all our food gets fermented then processed so that minerals and vitamins can be sent to their respective location. To maintain gut health, it is crucial to have a healthy microbiome, a diverse mix of bacteria. To keep those microbiomes happy, it is important to eat probiotics, enzymes that aid with digestion, nutrient absorption. Try to avoid eating foods that may harm these bacteria.
