Secrets of Happy Family - DIPAALI GHANSHYAM PATEL
Introduction
When I was young, I would hear my father and uncle shouting while I played outside our home. This particular incident from my childhood has always stayed with me. I felt confused and ashamed because my friends would stop playing with me and start talking among themselves after hearing the fights. In response to this awkward situation, I distinctly remember crying. Sadly, this wasn't the first time it had happened. Whenever we visited the village, there would inevitably be fights between my father and uncle. These conflicts would persist for days, leaving them not speaking to each other. The family was filled with criticism and resentment, creating a tense atmosphere that made it difficult for my brother and me to enjoy our summer vacations.
I remember a time when there were differences of opinion in my family, causing my grandmother and mother to cry and be unhappy. Upset with my father, my uncle chose not to speak to him and would also ignore the rest of us. I always felt incredibly sad whenever this happened, as I have never enjoyed conflicts from the start.
As I grew up and witnessed a recurring pattern in my family, where my brother, parents, and I lived together, we frequently disagreed and argued. These arguments often escalated into lengthy fights. Whenever my mother fought with my father, she would direct her anger towards me, leaving me feeling upset and confused. Adding to this dynamic, my younger brother has never been supportive since we were children, resulting in a strained relationship between us.
I used to constantly question why family members fight with each other, especially since our family is supposed to be the ones we love and care for the most. We rely on them for love and happiness, yet my own experiences have shown that they are often the cause of our misery.
When I lived with my parents, I used to write in a diary where I described my emotions. Despite not having been taught about love, peace, and respect within a family, I always dreamt of having a loving family of my own. I was determined to create a family environment free from fights, bitterness, and abusive language. This childhood decision remained clear and positive as I embarked on starting my own family. This book will delve into the challenges and triumphs I experienced along the way.
Since childhood, I have always sought love and attention, just like you. Love is something everyone desires, and our family is where we first experience and receive love. In 1938, a group of Harvard researchers initiated a study that would span several decades, aiming to uncover what truly brings happiness in life. They collected health records from 724 participants around the world and reached a significant conclusion: our well-being does not depend on career accomplishments, wealth, exercise, or diet, but rather on positive relationships. Maintaining positive relationships with our family and friends is what keeps us both healthy and happy. The most crucial element for a fulfilling life is what they termed Social Fitness,
and it all begins within the confines of our own home, with our family members.
There is currently no specific course or module available that focuses on teaching us how to lead a happy family life. However, this aspect is incredibly important as it has a significant impact on our career, health, and overall well-being. Individuals who are respected and loved within their families and have been educated on how to navigate life with happiness are valuable assets to both their nation and the world. On the other hand, those who are neglected or unloved may become individuals with low self-confidence or rebellious citizens of their nation and the world.
This book presents 7 enduring principles for cultivating everlasting love and respect, even in the face of differing opinions. It will teach you how to navigate the varying viewpoints and preferences of your family members. While it does not promise to eliminate any lingering resentment, it provides guidance on accepting and loving them unconditionally, just as they are.
This book guides you on the path to finding happiness with your family and provides you with tools to maintain that happiness for the long term. By reading and understanding each principle, you will come to appreciate the importance of a strong family structure. As you delve into the 7 principles, remember not to judge yourself or your family members. Instead, focus on the present and the future, and consider what actions you can take to ensure your own happiness within the family unit. Reflect on how everyone can find happiness together under one roof, as this is crucial and within your control. Let us now delve into the secrets of a happy family...
I have shared personal examples of both my parents and my own family to provide a clearer understanding of the consequences that arise from not adhering to principles in family life. I want to clarify that I do not have any grievances against my parents, nor am I upset about my past. Through my genuine and honest sharing in this book, I hope you can relate to your own family experiences.
Chapter 1, Respect
Family is the cornerstone of both a stellar individual and a
