About this ebook

Book fourteen, Meeting & Beyond, expands the work into completely unforeseen areas—like the seminaries? Now we get to the Lord's real agenda: rescuing His Bride held in bondage. As we finished Meeting Religion, we got a hint that the growth of the Haugean School of the Arts was not over. But it was only part of the major move made by the Messiah on the St. Olaf College campus. He had sovereignly moved to touch over a hundred fifty students and nearly a dozen professors who met Him personally, and were radically reborn.

Now, everyone is forced to deal with the fact that Jesus has just started his work in Northfield and St. Olaf. It goes far beyond what anyone had expected. It gradually becomes clear that His plan is to make radical changes within mainline corporate churches. He is especially concerned with how the institutional church had virtually eliminated true faith and the transformations we see in the Bible—beginning with the indwelling Holy Spirit at Pentecost.

No one had expected that the Messiah would actually begin touching the seminaries. In fact, he is building strong access into woke denominations—by touching the men and women called to lead them. He is producing a level of radical foundational change that has not been seen since Luther, Wesley, Calvin, and the rest started what we now call the Reformation.

Using rigid doctrinal positions, the enemy of Mankind has eliminated life from the mainline denominations—actually made it heretical. I know it's hard to wrap your mind around that bit of foolishness. But, it happened in every denomination—including evangelical and pentecostal corporate institutions.

Have you noticed that CEO and manager are not listed in Ephesians four with the leadership gifts from the Lord? Or that Jesus expects church leaders who are radically reborn believers, not highly trained employees?

Yes, you can experience this level of living. Just ask Jesus to speak to you. Prepare to be surprised, with joy.

Meeting & Beyond: Meeting Jesus Saga, #14
Author

David Bergsland

For me, my early life culminated with the great rebellion of the sixties. Ending up as a fine artist and heavy user of pot and acid, I needed help. I met Jesus in 1974, and my life began, for real. The Lord gave me an amazing Godly woman for my wife in 1976. I became a graphic designer, font designer, and desktop publisher. In 1991, I began teaching printing and digital publishing. That resulted in writing dozens of books and booklets about the practical processes, using InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. In 2009, I began the transformation into an author of fiction. By the end of 2022, I had 17 novels in five series, as I have developed my craft. This book is #20, and is the third book of the sixth series. I’m using Christian contemporary speculative fiction with some Biblical romance to share stories about the reality of how Jesus touches our day-to-day lives, while being strongly focused upon Biblical truth. I put the stereotypical Bible quoters in the same category as robo-callers. I attempt to reveal Jesus within a realistic world sharing my experiences. The goal is to reveal Jesus as a loving Creator building people into what they are designed to be. I currently assume time is running short, and the final harvest is here.

This is a work of fiction. Any association with real people is unintentional, happens in your mind, and is your responsibility. The locations are used fictionally also. The author only asks that you open your eyes to see what is going on around us in the world.

This novel has been given to me by my Lord and King, Jesus of Nazareth. The blessings He has poured, and continues to pour, upon me would be incomprehensible if I were not living in them day by day. I am grateful and love Him as much as He gives me the grace to love.

The new godly school is merely access

•The Lord’s plans: are delightfully complex and huge—as usual

What they discover now is the school is basically the production tool the Lord will use to touch the religious and turn them into believers. Then they see that this is just beginning of what He has planned. As humans, we have a tough time even imagining the scope of the Lord’s vision.

The entire creation is merely the setting for the grand plan. We get some glimpses of that as the saga concludes. Because the plan is deeply personal to the one we serve. I wonder if part of Satan’s anger is that he has realized that he is now just a training tool in the hands of Almighty God. There must be times when that breaks through his hatred and quest for revenge.

    Just sayin’…

Finding the focus of the venture

    •Thursday, March 15: Redwing•Upsurge, Fiery Spirit HQ

Edvard and Astrid had come over to join Elijah, Helaena, and Sakura. The five of them wanted to talk about priorities and the direction of the company. Edvard started out, "We need to pray. Lord Jesus, Astrid and I feel that we need some clarification about the priorities of The Fiery Spirit Gallery and the Haugean School of the Arts. It looks like you have given us large expansion ideas, with actual projects. Yet, the most important thing is what is happening up at St. Olaf, right?

"We put this conversation in your hands, Lord. We need your wisdom, knowledge, and guidance to enable us to put everything in perspective. The only overt public ministry we have is your Meeting on Fridays. As far as we know, that is fully developed physically, in the new Meeting room. If there is something we are missing, let us know, please. Other than that, it seems as if the live quietly, mind our own business, and work with our hands directive remains our general operation procedure. Help us, Jesus. I feel like we are missing something. Amen."

The four Amens were solid, but it was obvious that they all felt the same way about what was coming.

It seems to me, Helaena continued. That the people dealing with St. Olaf are Germaine and the publishing effort. Do we need to formalize that in any way? The next major event from them is likely to be the full scale books about Hans Hauge, written by Lukas, Asáli, and Sakura. What do you think, Sakura?

"I’m a little over half way through the actual writing of the narrative. The focus of this first book is on how the state church of Norway and the Norwegian Lutherans in America made direct moves to push Haugean thought to the side. The Haugeans were largely lay people, and people whose focus was on Jesus, not church politics.

"The seminaries were producing graduates who were masters of the political and bureaucratic maneuverings within the Church. They were focused exclusively on doctrinal issues and gathering the churches into the largest possible synod. Like we are seeing at St. Olaf, by making the requirement of rebirth heretical, the Norwegian American Lutherans ended up completely dominated by the seminarians. As a result, doctrinal issues in the hands of intellectually brilliant men had a relatively easy time of getting their way.

As the Holy Spirit told Laila, doctrine severely limited what the Lord would do without getting into a turmoil like what is coming upon St. Olaf. Doctrine is so rigid, that making a rhema out of doctrine doesn’t work well. We haven’t really started the doctrinal arguing that we are going to see unless the Lord has something up His sleeve that I simply do not see yet.

Elijah jumped in, "I believe that the doctrinal pushes are going to be impotent in front of the anointed statements, writings, and replies of reborn spirit-filled men and women, faculty, and students. It seems to me that simply ignoring the doctrine and asking the Lord to anoint our output will win the day. We just need to respond with scripture, deeply dependent on prayer and the anointing.

"The Lord told us clearly in that prophecy at the Meeting, ‘I will indeed bring the personal relationship with me back into the Norwegian Lutheran church. This relationship is a large part of why I created man and woman.’ He said that all of this was happening as part of His plan. He then told us to pray and bind the evil spirits who were leading this attack on St. Olaf and Northfield."

Sakura knew what she should do, I feel a strong leading to get together with Laila and make this issue and the dangers of doctrine into an ongoing portion of School Talk. If we work and keep ourselves clean, the Lord will anoint our posts. We’ll just need to keep the soul and flesh out of it.

Astrid commented, I think that’s the Lord. The rest of us need to get busy on designing buildings. I’ll call Mosi and see how much help they want from us about the new culinary and decorative arts portions of the school.

Bård and Sesapa Sæther get vetted

•Thursday, March 22: library, the Fiery Spirit HQ

After a couple of discussions, Nils and Edvard had decided that they needed to bring Bård and Sesapa over to introduce themselves and get the couple vetted. Only after that could the actual discussions with the potter and the weaver begin for real. The situation was complex enough so that Edvard and Astrid felt they needed to be face to face with them to decide.

It was a little after ten when Nils’ pearlized red-violet ’47 Cadillac Fastback Sedan pulled up silently in front of HQ. Bård hopped out. He was a typical Minnesota Norwegian at six foot tall, with smooth muscles, a dark blonde mop of hair, bright blue eyes, good looking, with a ready smile. He walked quickly around the back of the Black Sail Caddy and helped his wife out of the car.

Sesapa stood up gracefully, standing five foot ten inches tall with long lustrous straight dark hair, rich red-brown skin, high cheek bones, deep brown eyes, a well-shaped small nose, and a new smile which was clearly becoming a permanent feature of her regal, and contented, persona.

Bård wrapped his arm around her waist and they headed up to met Edvard, Astrid, Helaena, Elijah, and the Haskies. He opened with, Hello, I want you to meet the best thing to happen to me since I met the Lord. This is Sesapa. I’m Bård. He was careful to share the Norwegian pronunciation of his name, Bawrd. He had discovered that made good sense as few Minnesotans knew how to pronounce the names using the å.

After the greetings, Astrid and Ingrid took the Sæthers back to meet Ava and get a tumbler of coffee and a snack. By the time they got back to the library, Sesapa was talking happily with the two women. Bård just had a large smile.

Edvard got them started with a prayer, Lord Jesus, we are here this morning to find out what You want us to do to help the Sæthers get settled in the Haugean School of the Arts. We ask for your wisdom, knowledge, and guidance as we go through the process. Thank you for bringing another excellent couple to join us—if they decide to do that.

There were seven happy Amens in response.

OK. How’d you meet Jesus, Bård?

Bård took a moment to get himself squared away in his mind. He put himself into the hands of Jesus. "My reality was radically disrupted and I handled it very poorly. I had gotten a nice little inheritance from my grandfather twenty years ago. And I parlayed it into a good six and a half acre operation in Red Wing. The land was covered with hardwood timber and it had a nice pocket of the best stoneware clay I have ever used. I converted a machine shed into an insulated pottery studio. Plus, I had built an excellent raku kiln and a large stoneware kiln outside. They were both fired with gas and I reduced the stoneware by using hardwood coals in addition to the gas fire.

"However, in the farmlands inside the southwestern city limits of Red Wing, I was eventually surrounded by housing developments. When Red Wing shut me down using smoke and noise pollution complaints from new home owners in the developments, I didn’t handle it well at all. In fact, I was overcome with rage. At a city council meeting, I became completely unglued over the loss of my livelihood—screaming threats, throwing things, taking a swing at the cop before I was taken down and dragged away.

"The cop was sympathetic, and let me go, but I had picked up a nasty demon when I went berserk. By early February, it had gotten so bad that I was agreeing with the demon that I deserved to die. At least it would all be over. As I went back to get my shotgun, I heard, It won’t be over. The demon wins, and will have you in Hell with him forever.

    What?! I screamed.

"For me the terror level had just gone way up. The demon was screaming in my ears.

You’ve gone insane. I told you that you deserved to die. Actually, I’ve got you right where I want you.

Who was telling me about Hell? And it was silent.

I was, and I was telling you the Truth. The demon is just terrorizing you.

So, who are you? A different spirit?

Very different. I can fix your problems.

Who’s lying now? Where do you get that kind of power?

    I created you.

    You’re God?

    His son.

Jesus? And instantly He was gone, and the demon was screaming again. It was worse than before. But somehow I forced it out of my mouth, Will you help me, Jesus? And it was silent.

What do you want me to do?

"And the noise was back, with the demon screaming. I could hardly hear myself think. But then I knew.

I want a community I can help with my skills, people I can love and help. With people who love me in return.

I can do that for you.

What do I need to do?

You must get rid of your sin. It blocks me.

    How do I do that?

Ask the Holy Spirit to show you your sin. When you’re done ask me what to do.

"I sat down, got myself ready, and asked. Almost immediately I began remembering things I had done, that I knew were wrong. After a while, it paused, and I knew I had to forgive the people at the city. That was really hard. But the Spirit showed me what it was doing to me—the bitterness, and I was just eaten up inside. I finally did it, and I found there were many others I needed to forgive. Eventually, I couldn’t stand it any more.

I can’t stand it! I don’t want to be like this. What can I do?

    Ask me to forgive you.

"I was stunned. But I did it… and the weight of that burden lifted off me completely, and I was clean.

How can I stay like this? That was a desperate need.

If you believe I am your Lord and King, ask me to come inside you. Then I can clean you up.

"I discovered I did believe that, so I asked Him inside, and discovered His love for me. All I could think of was my new love for him, and my gratitude. I thanked Him, praised Him, and worshiped Him. The words got jammed up. I was almost stuck, and then something came loose inside me and I was speaking in a new language.

"After a long time, I was done and collapsed back in my chair, filled with joy. Then I heard, Call Nils Odegaard at the Spirit of Fire Gallery. Tell him you’ve been born again and need his help. He’ll come out and pick you up.

I did it. And Nils did it. It’s been almost five weeks, and I’m completely amazed. He leaned back on the loveseat, and put his arm around Sesapa with a huge smile on his face.

Astrid leaned forward, What about you, Sesapa?

Sesapa smiled and thought for a little while. "My trial took a lot longer. I was born in a house out near the creek north of Porcupine in the Pine Ridge Reservation, and life was pretty good. But, it’s the poorest county in the US. I didn’t know any better. Then, my parents sent me off to Pine Ridge to go to school. I was staying with my father’s brother. He was the first to use me for sex when I was about twelve.

"By the time I was fifteen, I had gotten pretty wild and took a trip to Rapid City, with an older girl. Once there I found out I had no way to get back. The older girl was paid a finder fee. I had to pay my way with my body. I had some ID from the reservation. But in Rapid City, I didn’t exist. It was a very bad time, for over eleven years. Some of the girls ran away, but they were all killed—at least that was what the house owner told me.

"Most of the girls were sold and shipped out. But I was the favorite girl of the house owner. So, he kept me around, and healthier than the rest. That’s the only reason I’m alive. (Well, I found out later, Jesus had been there keeping me relatively safe.)

"But I was getting too old, and they started sending me out on the street. Samuel and his wife, Christie, spotted me downtown one evening. Christie got out of the car a block away, around a corner, and walked around to meet me. Somehow, I trusted her and enjoyed talking with her. She finally told me that she and her husband could get me to a safe place where I could start a new life. I have no idea why I believed her—the Holy Spirit I assume.

"I went with her back to their car, and met Samuel. They took me to their shelter for homeless women. I could see they had something I needed and I started asking about that almost immediately.

"Christie explained things. It didn’t take too many days, and then I could accept her explanation, and she led me to Jesus. I was radically reborn, but I had little experience with reality, let alone the Kingdom.

"I found out later that Samuel was the son of Frank and Lillian Rodgers of Red Wing. Samuel had developed a ministry in Rapid City to rescue the trafficked Sioux, Cheyenne, Lakota, and Dakota girls from the various reservations on all sides of the city. Rapid City is one of the worst in the nation for the number of homeless girls and women who were not in any legal records.

"But I needed a lot of help. Eventually they talked to Sam’s parents. Then they took a little break and drove me over to meet them, two years ago. Frank and Lillian treated me like their granddaughter. We grew very close. And they taught me how to get close to the Lord, and walk in the Spirit.

"I began helping them in their business. They had built a small weaving business using two incredible Norwegian digital weaving looms. They had done fairly well with it. But I could see they weren’t using the machines anywhere near their capabilities. I saw so many things I could do with them. So, I asked if I could show them some ideas I had, and they let me.

"They taught me how to use Photoshop, and I discovered that every pixel could be a different color. The machines could weave at ninety threads per centimeter. I was only limited by how I set up the machines and the resolution of my designs. It’s all automated, but I can control it entirely.

"The church they go to is the one that Helen and Luke Carlson go to. I was told it was an old-style holiness church. Lillian asked Helen if she could teach me the Bible better. So, Helen has been doing that for a year now. She and Luke help Nils and Ingrid lead the Spirit of Fire.

"Eventually, when Frank and Lillian began talking seriously about retiring, Spirit of Fire got involved. What the Rodgers planned to do was give me the two weaving machines. Now that the whole culture is falling apart, they felt called to help in the Kingdom more. I think they are planning to move out to Rapid City and help Samuel and Christie.

They brought me over to meet Nils and Ingrid, and I met Bård. The immediate attraction was strong, and then the Lord told each of us that He had made us for each other. We went through a week and a half of intensive marriage mentoring, and just returned from our honeymoon Tuesday morning. It’s hard to believe what the Lord has done in my life. Bård is an amazing man. We’re hoping you have a place for us over here. Her face was alive with joy. Bård was in the same shape as his new wife.

The six from the Fiery Spirit were all agreed that the Lord had called them to join the Fiery Spirit project, and that He wanted them to hire both Bård and Sesapa. They talked for a bit, and decided to offer them each a mentor position—in pottery and in weaving. They explained the fifty five hundred per month salary for each of them, plus all the benefits. That was met with enthusiasm by the Sæthers, and they signed the contracts. Nils and Ingrid took them up to Fiery Flavors for a late lunch—and they developed a plan.

    3

The plan is to move in

•Friday, March 23: original building, Haugean School of the Arts

They shared the plan with Edvard and Astrid, plus Bidziil and Mosi, the headmasters of the school. They had all agreed that it was the best way to proceed. Then they went back to Red Wing with Nils and Ingrid. In Red Wing, they packed their clothes and their treasures. It wasn’t time for the looms or the potter’s tools. They had to prepare a place for all that stuff. Today, they had driven back in Bård’s RAM City Wagon.

So, they were meeting everyone in the school in the fine arts portion of the original school building. Mosi introduced them, and shared a bit of their history. Then Bidziil shared the rough plans for the stoneware studio, and the weaving studio—in the new building.

The vetting approval came quickly. There were many questions about the studio itself. Bård explained that he was making the complete change from gas to electric. So, he would have major changes to deal with. Plus, he had no idea how much space he would have available. But, Elijah had assured him that there was room to do whatever he thought he needed.

After the vetting, the Sæthers talked to Maja, the blacksmith about rooms available to live in. She said there were still two empty rooms in the fine art area on the east end of the west wing of the second floor. Those rooms had the arch between them, with a removable plug. That would give them a two room home. They went over there with Gareth, the facility manager. He showed them the ropes and removed the plug.

Next they headed down to HQ with Bidziil and Mosi. Once they prayed, Bård shared his ideas about his studio. "The first thing to note is that my property is paid for completely—free and clear. I’m sure I can sell it for enough money to equip the studio with quite a bit of cash left over. However, it’s my understanding that, if I do that, the IRS will take a lot for capital gains.

"It’s six and a half acres, a three-bedroom home, a top rate artist studio, and a couple of smaller outbuildings. It’s inside the city limits, off Mill road, near Spring Creek. I’m guessing two to three hundred thousand dollars—maybe quite a bit more. It’s very easy access, about a half mile east from Highway 19.

"What I believe the Lord told me is that I should give it to The Fiery Spirit. I assume that you can do it financially, so that I’m just putting money in for a place to live to replace my current home. Right now, the kiln I want costs fifty grand and has a five month delivery time. I would also like to rent the equipment and dig out all the clay, to haul it over here, so I can leave it out to weather over the winter.

    Does this make any sense?

Edvard chuckled, "Not really, because you’re giving me more than you’re spending here. But you’ll save the taxes. In fact, we should be able to write it up so that you’re buying studio space, as well. Then you’ll be showing a net loss. The overall corporate CFO has top lawyers and connections in the IRS to help with stuff like that. They’ll do it right.

The IRS doesn’t know we were going to build that building regardless. Are you going to be doing any raku?

"Just top-end fine art, maybe a dozen pieces a year. It’s too porous to use for dinnerware. I’ll fire it with electric and then reduce it in a metal trash can with sheets of newsprint to provide the reducing atmosphere.

"I’ll heavily filter the smoke and maybe even add some frankincense to sweeten the aroma. That way the neighborhood will know that some new raku was just fired. I’ve got some examples in the City Wagon. A really excellent piece can bring in several thousand dollars.

Like all my pots, each one is hand-built and/or hand-thrown on a wheel. The glaze is always unique in raku. But even on my stoneware the glaze has a lot of individual variations. So, they’re as unique as some of that carved jasper you sell. Of course, the Lord is a lot more creative.

Edvard quietly added, And we haven’t mentioned that we can do some remodeling, pave the driveway, and so on, to raise the price a good deal. Luke has spirit-filled crews to do the work. We have crews over here to help. They’re on salary, so there’s no real expense.

I love your mind, Edvard. The driveway is not paved, and near the road it crosses the creek. I’ll need a strong temporary bridge, at least, to haul out the clay. An elevated, paved driveway with a better bridge could add two hundred K, easy. Some landscaping could add a bunch more. There are a lot of fancy homes in the neighborhood. He chuckled.

Bidziil suggested, Why don’t we go out and get the samples? They won’t have any anointing, but we’ll get the idea, anyway.

Sesapa brought the women to help get her weaving samples.

Edvard, Astrid, Bidziil, and Mosi were almost brought to tears by the beauty of both the stoneware and the weaving. Bård had a gift for gracefully leaving almost painterly marks with his fingers when he threw a bowl, plate, or mug.

Sesapa’s woven pieces had gorgeous patterns as well as some delightful illustrations. They were both masters of their craft. More than that, they worked together really well.

Sesapa put it out there that, Things should get a lot better, now that we know about the process for getting the anointing. She asked, Is it all right if we bring these samples up to the school and set them up for the other artists? I assume you have a place where samples can be posted to share with all the artists in the school. She discovered there was nothing like that yet—but it was agreed that there should be.

When they finished, the Sæthers took their samples up to the school before they headed to their new home and dinner. They got all their clothing carried up, with their treasures. They started making plans to buy furniture.

They were warmly welcomed to the living quarters. They began to make new friends. The dinner was spectacular.

After they got the tables cleaned up and sent the dishes downstairs to the kitchen, Bård and Sesapa went up to the enclosed patio/atrium with Chayton, the etcher, and Sarai, the store manager. The four of them got to know each other and grew remarkably close for the first time they had met. It was yet another noteworthy joy.

    Henry & Håkon’s friendship grows

•Saturday, March 24: FaceTime, Minneapolis and Northfield

Håkon was trying to put into words how wonderful the Meeting with Jesus had been the night before. "It’s really something special. It’s got a five–six year history in their galleries in Red Wing, Stillwater, Taos, and Santa Fe. The Lord has told them clearly that he does not want them to market it at all. All they are allowed to do is have a business card that says Meeting with Jesus. It also has, in tiny type: the name of the gallery and the day and time. That’s it.

"If anyone asks them about it, they were told to say that Jesus will be there, and it’s a Bible study—nothing more. But they have solid faith that the Lord will bless it if they do that. The blessing of the Lord’s presence is so strong it’s almost overwhelming.

"The only other policy is that questions take precedence. If any one has a question which they need to be answered, the Meeting takes the time to answer it. Last night, as usual, they asked if any one had a question before they got into the Bible study.

One of the St. Olaf students asked, with an apology, I’m sorry to repeat, but are you sure we should not start a church?"

Jacob, the bible teacher, answered, "I think you misunderstand us. We do not say you should not start a church. Our position is that we do not have anyone in the Fiery Spirit with either the call or the time to do something like that. The last days are upon us, and we have everything we can do to keep up with what the Lord is sending to us.

"This week, for example, the Lord sent us a couple. The husband is a master potter, making stoneware dinner ware and fine art raku. His wife is an amazing weaver, specializing in napkins, runners, placemats, and things like that. They are amazing weavings. So we are planning on starting the build of the new 48,000 square foot building to hold those new parts of the school.

"Our position is that if the Lord sends you a leader, then by all means help him or her. That’s up to Jesus.

But we believe the real need is for all of you to work in the churches you presently attend. We want to get everyone born again, who can be saved before the Lord comes to pull the church out of here. And we can see that He might do that any time now. Literally, He might come and get us tonight before we finish this Meeting.

Henry sighed, I’m amazed that I was completely unaware of any of these things. So many changes… But the literal truth of scripture becomes more obvious daily. I found an article—yesterday, I think. It showed how Jesus fulfilled well over a hundred prophecies absolutely literally when He came the first time. I have no argument against the belief that He’ll do the same this time, as well. I’m grateful that the Lord took the time to call me.

Sonja wandered in. Håkon motioned her over with a large smile. When she arrived, As you may recall, I was a widower when I met the Lord. This is Sonja, a widow He sent to me, later on that same week. We had just gotten back from our honeymoon the day before the brouhaha up in my philosophy class. He looked at Sonja with a huge smile. Dear wife, this is Henry. He’s the other old coot the Lord saved that week. He was in charge of the faculty meeting the next day.

Henry spoke from the screen. Praise the Lord. He is a marvelous Lord, isn’t he? Hello, Sonja. He motioned off to his side. A beautiful, elegant woman walked into view. Sonja, Håkon, this is Caroline, my wife of several decades. Our marriage has made a remarkable transformation since I got rid of my smelly ears. (You know, after I pulled my head…)

Sonja cracked up. After a bit, she gasped for air. That’s a bit graphic. But He is good at that kind of thing, isn’t he? Hello, Caroline. How are you handling the changes?

Caroline’s face lit up. "Henry helped me meet Jesus that same night. We’ve never
