About this ebook

The Lord makes a major expansion of the work into Santa Fe. But, as usual, He starts with a surprise—a pansexual artist on Canyon Road in Santa Fe. This is one of the top 3 (according to some) fine art centers in the world. Paintings are commonly $30,000 to $50,000 or more. Most of them aren't too good, they have too much ego involved. But anyway, Eloy de Salas, the artist, answers the Lord's call.

After the Messiah brings Eloy through a radical rebirth, He uses the same mentors to show this artist how things work in the Kingdom of God. But, he finds himself interceding for an amazingly beautiful demon-possessed trophy wife. Haseya was purchased [for $600,000+] by a political power monger to use for sexual favors to manipulate the political powers in New Mexico.

Haseya has no idea that she was sold as a slave. She had thought she was his wife. But her supposed husband is deeply evil using her as a sexual tool. But Jesus has a plan to take care of that.

More than that, our Messiah has a plan to make a spiritual stronghold in the midst of the fine art elite on Canyon Road. He gives them the wherewithal to build an amazing gallery. He transforms the lives of several people to help, and shows them how he wants things done. It's a new way of doing business using only believers. It's glorious.

Author

David Bergsland

David's art & design career began in 1967 with the promotional materials for his rock band. After he was graduated in 1971 with a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Minnesota, he immediately began working in publishing, beginning as an illustrator. By 1979, he was working as a graphic designer in West Virginia. In the early 1980s in Albuquerque, he developed skills as a graphic designer, typographer, and art director in-house for a commercial printer. Beginning in 1991, he began teaching the commercial printing program at a large technical-vocational school. By 1996, he was developing and heading up the Business Graphics digital publishing program at that school. In 1994 he began designing fonts which he used to format his first textbook, "Printing In a Digital World", released in 1996. He began teaching online that same year as well as publishing ebooks for his curriculum. By 2002, he was publishing through Lulu, then Createspace, then Kindle, and then all the rest. He began writing and publishing full-time in 2009. Though most of David's books are about typography, graphic design, font design, and book design, he has also been teaching scripture since 1974. Since that time he has normally taught one to three Bible studies a week. Once he began writing and publishing full-time, he started releasing verse-by-verse, and topical Bible studies. His vision is to share his experience with young authors.

This is a work of fiction. Any association with real people is unintentional, happens in your mind, and is your responsibility. The locations are used fictionally also. The author only asks that you open your eyes to see what is going on around us in the world.

This novel has been given to me by my Lord and King, Jesus of Nazareth. The blessings He has poured, and continues to pour, upon me would be incomprehensible if I were not living in them day by day. I am grateful and love Him as much as He gives me the grace to love.

The Lord surprises Tue & Freau

One of the joys or serving Jesus is His infinite creativity. I cannot recall how many times He has radically changed my life without notice. For New Mexican believers, Santa Fe is an evil version of Disney World, a danger akin to San Francisco or the French Riviera, To me, as an artist and writer, it’s a sensory delight. But spiritually, it’s a dangerous place. So, why would Jesus move the focus of His new work from Albuquerque to Santa Fe?

As usual, the problem with His Bride is that it usually thinks far too small. It would serve us well to keep in mind that we are loving and serving the One who created the entire Universe. Yeshua is not some weird, slightly scruffy, Jewish prophet who the Lord called—like He called all of us. He is the Image of God. The representation of God that we can see and relate to. He’s a Big Deal!

Anyway, He is going to lay one of His surprises on Tue & Freau. Sounds like great fun to me. As you can imagine, the Lord does marvelous things. That’s who He is. He can’t help it.

The normal warning about the content

Teaching spiritual Truth: requires both good and evil

My goal has been to present the Truth about our daily walk in the Spirit. The lives of those born of God are very different from the religious norm. Hopefully, we proceed with daily guidance and prompting from the Holy Spirit—with no decision made until one is convinced that the Lord agrees.

A careful study of scripture reveals God’s desire to communicate directly with each of us, daily, personally, and in great intimacy. We learn about the Kingdom. One of the first things we learn concerns spiritual warfare—the daily battle with forces of evil.

So, if I’m going to share the Truth about walking in the Spirit, I also need to share the Truth about our enemy. This is not a Hollywierd extravaganza. But we deal regularly with fallen angels, evil spirits, and demons who oppose everything the Lord wants to do. However, they’re rarely seen in the open. Plus, they actually have very limited power—the Lord uses them as a teaching tool.

I was deeply involved in the occult before the Lord called me out of that mess. As a result, I have understandings of occultic activity which many do not have. They are a ruthless, depraved, cunning enemy based on lies and manipulation. They take real power from people—unless they are stopped by a true believer.

I show those things in throughout this saga. Many of the spiritual things mentioned in the story come directly from my personal experiences. I trust you have no trouble understanding that.

    Deeply dissatisfied

Friday, January 29: Canyon Road, Santa Fe

Eloy de Salas had moved to Santa Fe three years ago after he was graduated from UNM with an MFA in Studio Art, focused on Experimental Art + Technology. The oral presentation for his dissertation was entitled, Sexual Expression as the Core of Being. As a pansexual, his thoughts and works were an overwhelming success within the gender bending community. He’d picked up a patron and lover in Samuel Helbride, who had given him a small house off Canyon Road. That relationship had not lasted long, but he still owned the house. Samuel still hit on him some.

But somehow, he was reaching a crisis point. His art was still selling well. He was producing what he considered beautiful works to better the planet. But there was no satisfaction to be found. Something foundational was missing.

More and more he saw his circle of friends and lovers of any race or gender, as an endless procession of superficial people focused on self-aggrandizement and physical ecstasy. It all feels great, but there’s got to be more. His thoughts were in a turmoil. I can’t go on like this.

What kept running through his mind was a poster he had seen last week advertising a new show at one of the off-Canyon galleries. It was called, God created man, male and female He created man. That thought had somehow pierced his mind. He simply knew it was true. How am I to handle that? He really had no idea. He knew it destroyed the intellectual basis for his art and life.

Somehow he had to get it together and proceed with his life. I have to resolve this soon. It goes against everything I believe. He leaned forward in the old Serets wingback chair upholstered with a gorgeous silk Afghan hand-tied rug in deep reds. He held his head between his hands, with his elbows on his knees, and his eyes unfocused.

I can resolve it. The soft, authoritative voice spoke from behind the chair. His head whipped around, but he could see the whole way into the kitchen. There was no one there. What the hell was that? Now, I’m hearing things. No, I’m from the other side.

It still sounded external, but it must be inside his head. It was responding to his thoughts. What other side? I’m the Creator. Oh, my god. Yea, that one. "So, now the Creator is talking to me—right. I’m going insane."

No, I’m helping you become sane.

That’s it! I was talking about resolving my sexual crisis. Now he was getting really angry. How can you resolve that? With Truth. That stopped him cold. He was always talking about having truth on his side. This was getting serious.

    What do you want?

Boy, he knows how to ask questions. His dissatisfaction was based in his belief that there had to be more. This endless round of parties, events, and fleshly excess had little to do with what he was looking for. On his present path, he had nothing to live for. I’m not doing anything that matters to anyone but myself. Then a group of thoughts sprang into his mind, fully formed. They expressed a core value of his that he had never considered.

He spoke into the empty house. I want a life that matters. I want to help others come to know that type of life. I want to be involved with people I care for, who love me, who care about this. I want to be what I was designed to be. The truth of those statements rocked him. He had no idea where they came from but he knew they were true.

And there was nothing. Dead air. Gradually, he became aware that the spontaneous statements he had said were something he was willing to pursue—they were worth fighting for. A touch of joy seemed to shimmer on the horizon of his life. But he waited. If there was a God, somehow he knew that he needed to know about that.

After what seemed like an immense amount of time, I can introduce you. Where are they? How do I contact them? It seemed like a life raft had been thrown to him in the sea of confusion. He was willing to climb into it. But he had no idea what that meant. I need something more from you. All right, what do you need? He could sense the importance of that question. But he had no idea what to expect.

Get Lydia’s Bible and read chapter three in the Gospel of John. Then email info@ascendedlight.com and ask Denzell Trujillo to call you and explain what it means. He will be able to help you. You can trust him. What? This was getting insane. Lydia was a crazy artist with whom he had hooked up last week. She’d left her Bible when she left crying about her actions, the next morning. This is nuts! He was getting furious.

But even as he made that pronouncement to the air of his home, he knew this was a real offer from God. He found he couldn’t deny that it seemed as if he had talked with God. What have I got to lose? If it’s nothing, I’ll drop it. But… So, he stood up and went to the bedroom. The Bible was still there, tossed on top of his dressing table. He picked it up and went back to his chair.

It took a while to find John. He found I John, but that was an epistle—whatever that was. Then he found it, and started reading chapter three. He had no idea what a Pharisee was, or who Nicodemus was, but he could see the attempt at flattery. Nicodemus had no idea what he was talking about. He just hoped…Like I am now. He loved how Jesus put the old man in his place, unless a man is born again, he can’t even see the Kingdom of God. That had the same effect on his mind as what God had spoken to him. He just knew that whatever Jesus was talking about, it was true.

The difference between being born of the flesh and born of the spirit was obvious—even though he had no idea how to bring that about. He didn’t know how to do it, but he knew he needed to be born of the spirit.

Verse sixteen nailed him. That’s a powerful offer. He found he could not deny that Jesus was who he said He was. But he had no idea what being born from above meant. But all God had asked him to do was send an email and ask for Denzell Trujillo to call him and tell him how to do it. If it was God, then it will be all right. He chuckled. He was either going nuts, or this was going to be good.

So, he started up his Mac Studio, opened Safari, and looked up ascendedlight.com. It was a beautiful site. The designs and colors touched him far inside. He went to the contact page and clicked the email link. A new email opened on the screen addressed to info@ascendedlight.com That’s the right email. So he wrote a letter. He used A crazy query for the subject and then wrote a short note about why he was writing and asked Denzell Trujillo to call him, please. He left his phone number at the end, and sent it off.

In was less than five minutes before his phone rang. It was from Tue Trujillo. He answered it, Is this Denzell?

Yes, it is. But as a professional, very few people know that. Did the Lord give you my real name?

That stopped him a second. Yes, I guess that’s who it was. He told me he was the creator god. I know nothing about him other than that. Are we talking about the same person? I hope so.

Yup, we sure are. I want to answer your question, but I need to know a little about your spiritual background to be able to explain it well. I need to know what you know about God, the creator—just so I’ll know what words to use. I hope that’s not too confusing.

"Believe me, it’s not. I know nothing about God. I’ve heard of Buddha, Mohammed, Gaia, Shiva, and so on. From what it said in the third chapter of John, Jesus must be God’s Son, right? I find that I believe that on some kind of deep level. But I’ve never paid any attention to any of that. It had no relevance to my life, as far as I knew. So, I don’t know what to do with it.

"I’m an artist, and this started when I saw a poster a week ago. It was about a show in a small gallery I’ve never heard of. The exhibition title was God created man, male and female He created man. That sentence has torn up my life. My whole art career is based on my dissertation, which I entitled, Sexual Expression as the Core of Being. I’m pansexual, and those should have been fighting words—but I can not deny the truth of them."

Give me second, Eloy, please. I need to ask the Lord how to explain it the best for you. It shouldn’t take long.

    Sure, whatever time you need.

About twenty seconds later, "OK, I’m back. The Bible was written by people who were inspired by the Holy Spirit of the Creator. That exhibition title paraphrases a part of the creation story in Genesis—the first book of the Bible. The entire Bible is about this God’s relationship with His people. I’m one of those people. The Lord, that’s God’s position or title in the universe, has invited you to join us.

You told me in the email that you have satisfied the first condition—you believe God sent his Son, Jesus, to save us and give us eternal life. Right?

Yes. It sounds like nonsense when you say it like that, but I know it’s the truth—somehow.

"It sounds like nonsense because you have not been born from above or born of God yet. That’s a spiritual transaction which you have to ask Him for. However, there is a big blockage in the way. It’s blocking your understanding of being born in the spirit.

He cannot explain it to you when there is sin in your life. Sin is that force within you that keeps you self-centered and unable to do things the way He designed man to work. Does that make sense?

Yes, it does. If He designed us, He knows how it all works. Only an artist knows how his art works.

Exactly! I was an art student at UNM when He turned my life around, in much the same manner as He seems to be working in you.

You did the design work on your website then? That’s gorgeous work.

"Thank you, Eloy. That means a lot to me. Yes, my wife and I put it together. I’m the artist, and she’s the Web developer. But to get back to what we were talking about, We all have a terrible time seeing our own sin. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit of God can show it to us if we ask Him to.

"So, we’ve arrived at crunch time. Here’s how you get born from God. First, you ask Him to show you your sin. He’ll do that. I was appalled when He did it for me. But all He asks is that you turn from that way of doing things toward doing things the way he planned.

"So, ask Him to forgive you. He will do that if you ask Him to, and you will know it happened. Then you will want to ask Him to fill you, change you, and be your Lord. He will come into your life and fix you.

"When He does that, your normal response will be to thank Him, then praise Him, and then worship Him. Keep doing that until you’re done. Some time in the middle of that, you’ll run out of words. Don’t stop, just let Him fill your mouth with words. He will speak through you if you keep on praising Him. The result will be the most incredible thing you’ve ever experienced.

But it all starts by asking Him, ‘Show me my sin, Lord.’ Does that make sense? Any questions? It really is that simple.

No, it makes no intellectual sense, but it’s about simple obedience, right? OK, give me a little time here.

Of course. I’ll be here if you need me.

Eloy was silent. He did not want to find out about his sin, whatever that was. But, it was a simple request. He didn’t know about any sin in his life. So, what did he have to lose?

Tue heard him ask the Lord, questioning reality, OK, creator, show me my sin, if there is any. It was silent on the phone for nearly a minute. Then he heard Eloy crying. Oh my God, yes, I’ve done all of that. How disgusting was that? Ooh! That was nasty. Those types of comments went on for another minute or so.

Then he heard, How could you forgive all of that? I’m disgusted by myself. I don’t want to be like that any more. A short pause, Please forgive me, Jesus, which fast turned into, Jesus, change me. Cause me to be born of your spirit. Fill me with your spirit… Oh my God, so this is love. I’ve never felt this before. Oh my God, it’s amazing! Thank you, Jesus. You are my King. Only you are worthy…

The praise and worship went on and then slid with ease into the language of the Spirit given to him. Denzell joined him. Then, he started singing, and Eloy’s tongue just joined his in perfect harmony as they worshiped the Lord of the Universe together.

They softened to a stop. Tue heard, You were right, Denzell. This is incredible. I’ve been so stupid. Thank you for explaining it to me.

Denzell countered, In truth, that was the Holy Spirit using me to explain Himself to you. It’s all about Jesus.

Yes, I can see that. Amazing.

After a bit, Tue added, We should get together. I don’t know where you live, but could you meet me and my wife at the Flying Star in Nob Hill tomorrow for brunch? This is a huge change. Your life will never be the same. I know my life has only gotten better since I met Jesus. You’ll have questions, and between the three of us, I know the Lord will give you answers.

I’d love that. I’ve missed the Flying Star since I moved up here. I live in Santa Fe, in a little house on Canyon Road. What time? Ten thirty?

We’ll be there. In the mean time, you’ll discover the Bible is crystal clear now. Just keep reading in John. If you finish that, go to Romans. The author is living inside of you. That’s what it means, to be born from above. We’ll see you in the morning. After a little back and forth they hung up.

Tue looked over at Freau, I wonder what He’s doing this time? They both chuckled, in awe.

    Dealing with the new life

Saturday, January 30: In front of Flying Star, Nob Hill

Tue had sent Eloy an email saying they were in the dark green Soul, right in front of the restaurant. The Lord had given them a spot. They were chuckling about it. He saw a stylish young man with coiffed black hair. He was tall and slender, symmetrical features, light brown eyes approaching dark yellow, and what seemed to be a permanent smile as he came out the front door, looking at them.

He opened his door and stepped out. Eloy? I’m Tue. The woman in the car is Freau, my wife. Eloy bent over and opened the door for Raquel. I’m pleased to meet you, Freau. My name is Eloy de Salas. I’ve got to know about this Tue and Freau thing.

Both of them chuckled. As Freau found getting out of the car difficult, she apologized. We’ve only got a month to go, The kid’s making getting around a bit of an effort.

Eloy laughed, Yes, I noticed that. Are things going well? I’ve never been around babies much.

It’s all new to us, also, Denzell grinned. He gave him the short story about the names, acknowledging that either name worked at this point. My wife’s real name is Raquel. Do we have a common ancestor? One of the founders when Albuquerque was formed, who was given a lot of credit, was Doña Bernardina Salas y Trujillo. We came from the Trujillos. Was she your relative or José?

Eloy broke out a large grin, Give me a chance to change head space here. I think we came from José. But Doña Bernardina was his Aunt or grandmother, right? I’ve never gotten all that clear.

Now, you’ve got me. I don’t know. I’ll just tell everyone you’re a shirttail cousin. They won’t have a clue what I’m talking about. He grinned back. So, how are you today?

It’s hard to say, it’s changed so much, so quick. This morning an acquaintance hit on me, and I had to tell him things had changed—that I’m not available for that any more. I’m afraid he didn’t take it well.

I’m sorry. How did you take it?

It was amazing to me, but it wasn’t a problem. I was not interested in that any more. I find it hard to believe that I made personal physical pleasure the center of my life. I hope this is all permanent.

I imagine the enemy will test you there. Freau gave him a smile. But, maybe not. For me it was a sudden and complete break. But then I had Denzell, and we got married four days later.

    That sounds like a story.

It is. Maybe too long for today, but you never know.

They went over and Eloy held the door open. Once inside, he said, Let me grab my coat. I was just waiting for you to arrive. Found myself thanking Jesus again. He grabbed his coat off a chair at a table in front of the window.

Why don’t I drop our coats on the other chairs to save the table for us? Tue said. Give me yours, hon.

That taken care of they went to get their food. That went fast, and they arrived back at the table in a few minutes chatting like old friends. As they sat down and got settled, Tue led out with, I met the Lord something like you did about two and a half years ago. He spoke to me out of the blue. That triggered a major work by the Lord. A year and a half ago, we were going through another major event, and the Lord touched a young Navajo warrior on the reservation. He enabled that situation to be dealt with in amazing ways. Now there’s you, and we find ourselves wondering what the Lord is up to this time.

Freau added, "You may not realize this, but the way you, Notah, and Denzell met the Lord is quite unusual. The first work he mentioned was that huge problem Albuquerque had with the riots and the murders of young gay men. I was working for the bad guys on that one. He rescued me while they were trying to rape me, in the midst of all that.

That’s a much larger story than I’ve covered. But I find myself fascinated. Notah’s story was almost as radical—stopping a trafficking ring on the Res. So, what’s the Lord telling you?

Eloy held his hand out. Let me ask the Lord how to phrase things. Give me a moment or two, please. He smiled at her so she’d know he wasn’t upset or looking for a way out. Did Denzell tell you about the exhibition title?

    She shook her head.

"All right. A little over a week ago, I saw this poster advertising an art exhibition entitled, God created man, male and female He created man. And it shook me deep inside. My master’s thesis was Sexual Expression as the Core of Being. I fancied myself as a pansexual, and free sexual expression was the center of my life as an artist on Canyon Road, in Santa Fe. As I’m sure you can imagine, it went over really big up there.

"But at the same time, the banality and uselessness of my life and the lives of my acquaintances was bothering me. Somehow, I became aware that the constant marketing of self, added to the incessant search for more grand ecstatic experiences, was empty of any lasting value—if not meaningless.

That culminated with the Lord speaking to me in my living room, telling me that He could resolve that for me, and that He would make me sane. Then he asked me, ‘What do you want?’

The emotion drained from his face, "I examined myself at that point. Believe it or not, I never thought past the next orgasm. I went round and round as I tried to get a handle on that simple question. Then a solid collection of thoughts popped into my mind. You know, that creative idea that comes when you’re working on a piece? But it answered the Creator’s question. ‘I want a life that matters. I want to help others come to know that type of life. I want to be involved with people I care for, who love me, who care about this. I want to be what I was designed to be.’ These were all new ideas to me, but they satisfied me. God said he could introduce me to people like that, but that he needed something from me first. He told me I had to read the third chapter of John, Then I was supposed to email info@ascendedlight.com and ask Denzell to explain what it meant.

You know the story from there. So, are you the people who are going to care what I do?

Raquel flashed a smile at him, Could be. I’m already leaning that way.

That floored him. He looked at Denzell. Is she kidding me? She doesn’t know me at all.

No, but the Lord is telling me, and I assume her, that you are for real. That’s what we look for in people. Will you keep your focus on the Lord?

How the hell am I supposed to know that? He stopped. I guess hell is real too, right?

Yes, hell is real, but you’ve avoided that by giving your life to Jesus. I’m looking for a man who will answer the difficult questions. One who is interested in Truth over everything all else.

That nailed Eloy where he lived. He was silent, as he digested what he had heard so far. Then, he lifted his head again. "I was certain, positive that I had Truth before all of this. That I understood it on deep level. Yesterday, I found out that was a lie I was foisting on myself. But, yes, I want Truth.

Denzell smiled, with gentleness, at him, "Jesus is the Truth. He embodies it."

That hit home. Eloy’s face lit up—as his entire being smiled. He knew that was true, as Jesus embraced him.

They talked for just over two hours. Tue and Freau explained Black Sail, Ascended Light, and Tarskyne. Then, Raquel had to call a halt to it. She was becoming increasingly uncomfortable. She couldn’t take it any more without stretching out a bit.

Denzell checked with her, and then said, We’d like to invite you over to our home. However, we keep that secret until the Lord says it’s all right—for some of the reasons we just mentioned. So, our normal procedure is to bring you over in the back of our car with a mask over your face. It’s up to you if you’re ready for something like that.

He was, so they brought him home. Denzell left him in the living room for a bit while he gave Raquel a back rub and prayed for her. Just look around. I’ll be back in a bit. He led her off to the bedroom.

He looked around, and loved what he saw. The studio was impressive, and the proofs hanging on the wall next to Denzell’s desk were beautiful. When Denzell came back, they just talked. Tue didn’t have any artist friends.

They talked about beauty, and God’s creativity. Eloy began to get excited as he saw how the Lord’s creativity was expressed by designing things like people, plant, animals, whatever that were all unique. The endless variety of things showed a creative impulse that was magnificent.

Freau came out in about an hour. She was feeling better. She was hungry and decided that the only solution was a bowl of butter pecan ice cream, and a couple of kosher dills. But by this time, they were prepared and those things were in the kitchen. Denzell went out and got it for her while she luxuriated in her self-adjusting ergonomic chair at her desk. When he came back, she was explaining where they had gotten them, and telling him about Einar, and then Valaria. That resulted in a call to the two of them.

    Einar and Valaria came over.

They liked what they saw in Eloy, like Tue and Freau had. They talked for a bit. Then they went back to their house to make some supper. They had been working on a pollo verde (chicken, green chilé) enchilada bake. The other three were enthusiastic about that possibility.

The dinner was spectacular, as usual. The Hauges had improved their repertoire a lot since their marriage a little over a year and a half ago. But the conversation was as good as the food. Eloy had a sharp mind, and he wasn’t resisting the Holy Spirit at all. For him, it was one amazing revelation after another.

They talked for a couple of hours, Then Raquel needed to get into her chair again. They said good night to Einar and Valaria with heart-felt thanks for the fellowship, and went back over to their home.

And they talked over there until after nine o’clock—calling it a day when it dawned on them that Eloy had an hour’s drive to get home. Tue brought him back to his car. It was wonderful to meet you, Eloy. You’ve got my email and phone. Do not hesitate to call.

I won’t. I’ll have questions. Thank you, Denzell.

They both drove home wondering what was coming. When Denzell got back to Raquel, they found themselves curious about what the Lord was up to this time. There was no doubt in their minds that Eloy was the next move on the Lord’s part. He was the real deal, without doubt.

    Getting set up

Sunday, January 31: Tue & Freau’s home, Albuquerque

At church in the morning, Denzell had a chance to talk with Einar. He was concerned that Eloy would have no fellowship. He asked if he could email Eloy and suggest he get in touch with Einar for some online Bible study. Einar prayed about it, and agreed it was a good idea.

So, when Tue got home, he gave Freau a back rub. He let her relax and emailed Eloy. He told him that Einar had been the man to mentor him, and that he was exceptional. He gave him the email and the phone number. He told him that Einar was ready to do it, but that it was up to him.

He got a response in seconds.
