About this ebook

Denzell and Raquel discover that the evil behind the troubles of the first book is behind a major trafficking effort on the Navajo Nation. The godly company birthed in Book One discovers that the evil behind the violence is working globally. They are deeply tied into the Swamp, but what is this mayor of a small city in southwestern Utah? He's clearly deep into this work of subverting political power. But he's a nobody.

Tue and Freau Trujillo [Denzell and Raquel's cover names] become deeply concerned by the young women disappearing off the Res —the Navajo Nation. No one seems to care. As usual, they turn to the only One with real power and ask for help. Notah Begay is simply depressed, and that's not like him. Like his father, Bebe, he's a loose and free, old-school Navajo warrior—an increasingly irrelevant type of human in the modern American world.

He was home-schooled and recently received his high school diploma. He and all the young people his age are consumed with getting high, getting laid, and avoiding reality. The girls will do anything to find someone to take care of them. It's simply too painful. But the Lord has other ideas. Notah is hired by Tue and Freau's Design Company to get to the bottom of things.

Haloke, a young Navajo orphan abused by two of her many foster fathers, in desperation escaped from her painful life determined to make a way for herself. But she was completely unequipped to resist the charms of Ahiga Tl'izilani. She discovers that she's an excellent recruiter for the young women desperate enough to do anything to bring themselves support and security. But, Ahiga has a horrible reputation for good reasons. She discovers she's trapped in a snare for which she volunteered. Her demonic minder makes increasingly terrifying demands for control.

Clearly the Lord is not without a plan. But where it ends up is a true surprise for everyone. The blessings are without precedent in a nation struggling to simply survive. Only the anointing of the Lord…

David Bergsland

David's art & design career began in 1967 with the promotional materials for his rock band. After he was graduated in 1971 with a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Minnesota, he immediately began working in publishing, beginning as an illustrator. By 1979, he was working as a graphic designer in West Virginia. In the early 1980s in Albuquerque, he developed skills as a graphic designer, typographer, and art director in-house for a commercial printer. Beginning in 1991, he began teaching the commercial printing program at a large technical-vocational school. By 1996, he was developing and heading up the Business Graphics digital publishing program at that school. In 1994 he began designing fonts which he used to format his first textbook, "Printing In a Digital World", released in 1996. He began teaching online that same year as well as publishing ebooks for his curriculum. By 2002, he was publishing through Lulu, then Createspace, then Kindle, and then all the rest. He began writing and publishing full-time in 2009. Though most of David's books are about typography, graphic design, font design, and book design, he has also been teaching scripture since 1974. Since that time he has normally taught one to three Bible studies a week. Once he began writing and publishing full-time, he started releasing verse-by-verse, and topical Bible studies. His vision is to share his experience with young authors.

This is a work of fiction. Any association with real people is unintentional, happens in your mind, and is your responsibility. The locations are used fictionally also. The author only asks that you open your eyes to see what is going on around us in the world.

This novel has been given to me by my Lord and King, Jesus of Nazareth. The blessings He has poured, and continues to pour, upon me would be incomprehensible if I were not living in them day by day. I am grateful and love Him as much as He gives me the grace to love.

What I show in my fiction

My purpose in all of my new fiction is to show a rare, but realistic, vision of what the life of a believer in Jesus looks like when he or she simply follows the lead of the Lord—trusting the One who is able. Almost everything I share in the lives of my characters, I have experienced in my fifty years of walking with the Lord.

I don’t see it as my job to force you to endure the horrible things which happen to Christians who do not believe. Of course, my characters who get saved in the course of the book have troubles before they meet the Lord. That will always happen.

In my books, the Lord calls someone to rescue people from the oppression and torture of the demonic. Most of my life has been spent fighting this battle. My father, who mentored me for the first two years after Jesus called me, had a deliverance ministry. He ministered to addicts and the possessed. He told me all the time that his experience was that addicts could be completely delivered, cold turkey, with a simple exorcism. Of course, to keep it, these delivered people had to turn to Jesus completely. Sadly, many do not—often because they are not taught what is possible.

Moreover, I can’t edify you by saying many do not. I build you up in the Lord by sharing the times when people do turn to Jesus and simply believe what He tells them. The lives of people who simply have faith are remarkable—with daily testimonies of wonderful things done for them by the King who called them and loves them.

I’m embarrassed to say that I lived many years in the Lord before I began to live this way consistently. But He was merciful and showed me how to do it as I turned toward him more and more. Now my life comes close to matching what my characters experience in these books. My calling may not be as large, but the presence and working of the Holy Spirit is the same. Alleluia!

This book is a direct continuation of Meeting Jesus, Book One of the Meeting Jesus Saga

It continues that completed tale and builds upon it. In fact, it starts the next day. It’s a separate story with many new characters. But it continues the lives and call of Denzell and Raquel Trujillo [who are also known as Tue & Freau], a young couple around twenty years old, in Albuquerque, New Mexico a few years in the future. In this story, the action moves to the Navajo Nation, the Diné people.

As you can imagine, the Lord does marvelous things. That’s who He is. He can’t help it.

    A warning about the content

Teaching spiritual Truth: requires both good and evil

My goal has been to present the Truth about our daily walk in the Spirit. The lives of those born of God are very different from the religious norm. Hopefully, we proceed with daily guidance and prompting from the Holy Spirit—with no decision made until one is convinced that the Lord agrees.

A careful study of scripture reveals God’s desire to communicate directly with each of us, daily, personally, and in great intimacy. We learn about the Kingdom. One of the first things we learn concerns spiritual warfare—the daily battle with forces of evil.

So, if I’m going to share the Truth about walking in the Spirit, I also need to share the Truth about our enemy. This is not a Hollywierd extravaganza. But we deal regularly with fallen angels, evil spirits, and demons who oppose everything the Lord wants to do. However, they’re rarely seen in the open. Plus, they actually have very limited power—the Lord uses them as a teaching tool.

I was deeply involved in the occult before the Lord called me out of that mess. As a result, I have understandings of occultic activity which many do not have. They are a ruthless, depraved, cunning enemy based on lies and manipulation. They take real power from people—unless they are stopped by a true believer.

I show those things in throughout this saga. Many of the spiritual things mentioned in the story come directly from my personal experiences. I trust you have no trouble understanding that.

    Time to go home

Saturday morning, July 13: The Terrace at La Fonda, Santa Fe, New Mexico

It had been a wonderful week since Tue and Freau left Raquel’s parents’ home near Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis, early Friday morning, the Fifth of July. They had decided they would just have fun for a week. They started with the Badlands and a night in the fabulous tourist trap of Wall, South Dakota. Then they went through the Black Hills, but on the weekend of the Fourth, Rushmore was impossible, and Crazy Horse was nearly as bad. But, they did get a fun room in Custer.

The next day they left early and made it to Colorado Springs by two thirty, and checked into their suite with a view of the Front Range at the Antlers Hotel downtown. They had a good time that evening in the shopping and dining area of Old Colorado City, just west of downtown.

Then they had spent two days in the King Suite at the Taos Inn. It was amazing. But for the past three days, they had been in a king bedroom at the Terrace on top of the La Fonda with concierge service and all the amenities. The feel of the beautiful patina of the oldest American cultural center washed over them. They’d had a wonderful time shopping around the Plaza, eating great food, and feeling like the Lord had seen to it they were pampered.

Denzell and Raquel Trujillo both woke up together early, around six thirty. They looked at each other and giggled. This was all so unreal.

But then, they’d had an unreal life since their sudden unexpected marriage on Palm Sunday weekend in Ouray, Colorado. They had both agreed that they didn’t really even know each other at that time, so this past week had been their actual honeymoon. It had been far better than they could have asked or imagined. The Lord, as usual, knew what He was doing, and had deeply blessed them.

Now it was time to go home and resume their new careers as the leadership of Ascended Light Design, and the parent corporation—Shining Light Development. That was becoming a major work. They really had no idea where that was all going, but they knew it was growing.

Denzell had yet to decide if he would continue to pursue his BFA at the University of New Mexico as a sophomore. But it wasn’t likely. He probably wouldn’t have time.

Raquel felt the same, but neither one of them had any idea what they would be doing. After the spiritual battle with the demons of Tarskyne Development, they were ready for anything the Lord asked them to do.

Well, dear husband, what’s on tap for today? You’ve wowed me for a week. Surely you’ve nearly run out of extravaganzas by now. She stretched and rolled over on top of him. That took well over an hour, and then they were prepared to get ready to go. They called for some coffee and pastries for a snack.

Then they showered and got everything packed. They actually had some nice leather baggage now—and it was nearly full. After they were dressed and ready to go, they called to find out what to do with their luggage while they ate breakfast at La Plazuela—that fabulous, high-roofed hand-painted interior courtyard restaurant at La Fonda.

After they ate, they took care of all the paperwork and had a bellman bring their luggage out to the CR-V in the parking ramp. They pulled out of the garage a little after eleven. As they headed out of town, they called Einar.

Hi, you two. How’re you surviving?

It’s been amazing, replied Raquel. We were wondering if anything earthshaking had happened since yesterday. We were thinking about stopping to see Jacob and Rachael, since we have to drive right by their house. Do you see any flaw in that plan?

No, that sounds good. We’ve never heard what they were able to do about the Swamp critters in DC.

That’s what we were wondering about. How’re Valaria and Benjamin.

Benjamin’s a fine young brother in the Lord. You’ve got some good help there. And I do also. Valaria is an exceptional woman. She’s really coming alive in the Lord.

Do we need to hire a chaperon to guard the halls upstairs? Raquel was delighted to be able to tease him. The answer shocked her.

That might not be a bad idea. We’ve been thinking we should probably get legal pretty soon.

You’re kidding! That’s wonderful. Both of you will have to tell us all about it tonight when we get home. We’ll give you a call when we leave, in case you want us to pick anything up.

    Sounds good, bye.

Denzell commented, I’m not surprised. I know Einar needs a helpmate, like almost any man. I saw how much he liked her before we left. I mean, compared to us, he’s taking his time.

Raquel cracked up, and ended in praise, Praise you, Jesus. I thank you for my husband, our new life, all the opportunities you’ve given me and us. You are a wonderful King to serve.

Denzell proclaimed with a grunt, Alleluia! After a short pause, Why don’t you call Rachael and see if they’re even there. Tell her we have some questions.

    Like what?

I’m not sure. I’m not sure we’ll even be working in Albuquerque. I’m thinking maybe we need a company van with a solid computer workstation—for off road work, or something?

    Where’d that come from?

It just kind of dropped in my mind. I have no idea if it’s anything real or not.

Raquel heard Him. It’s real. O boy, the Lord just said it’s a real need. I wonder what’s coming next?

    A disturbing report

Saturday, July 13: Black Sail, Placitas, New Mexico

It was about twelve thirty when the Trujillos pulled to a stop near the door at Jacob and Rachael Jackson’s home, overlooking the mighty metropolis (sic) of Bernalillo. This sleepy little town on the northern edge of Sandia Pueblo—was founded by Don Diego de Vargas in 1695. It was on the east side of the northern river crossing where Coronado had paused in his quest for gold in 1541.

Back East, people forget that Santa Fe was made the capital of the area in 1610, the same time Jamestown was being settled. Coronado was seventy years before that. The Spanish of New Mexico are well aware of their heritage. Albuquerque was a latecomer, being founded in 1706.

Denzell’s family was one of the founding Spanish families in Albuquerque when, what is now called, Old Town was settled.

He had been sharing this with his wife, who had little comprehension with her family coming across at the end of the nineteenth century. Like many, she was basically unaware that Mexican history was a very special case. Much of the culture predated the Spanish colonization of the 1500s—with the Aztecs in the 1300s, and the Mayans before Jesus was born. It’s why the Hispanics in New Mexico are called Spanish.

As they climbed out of their car, Rachael came out the door. It’s too hot for Jacob. He basically doesn’t come out this time of year. Anyway, welcome! You’re both looking relaxed and joyful. I assume it was a good trip.

Yea, once we left my parents. They didn’t approve.

I’m sorry. But then many of us, if not most, come out to New Mexico to escape the eastern ways. So, welcome back! We certainly approve out here.

Well, we did have an extravagant holiday between there and here. Denzell seriously spoiled me, and it was marvelous. Raquel was beaming now.

"Good work, Tue. The memories can be very important as the trials come later. We have some news you might find disturbing.

Actually, Jacob’s downstairs talking with Ralph and Lisa. They’re the ones who seem to be putting it together so far. Your timing is very good.

The three of them went through the house, down the elevator, and through into the conference room. As they arrived, they found not only Jacob, but also Bebe and Shiry.

Shiry was really happy to see Freau. She came over for a hug, and spoke in her ear, I’m happy you two are here. I know the Lord will show you what to do about all of this.

Tue looked at Freau, and gave a little shrug, I guess this’s where the Lord wanted us today. He went over to look over Jacob’s shoulder. He saw Ralph and Lisa on the screen. Ralph was not happy. Hi people, we just got back. It seems like something has come up?

That started a little flurry of greetings, and settling in place. Both the new arrivals wanted coffee. Raquel sat next to Shiry, and Denzell sat at the left hand of Jacob. As soon as they began to start, Tue asked, Can I pray? Lord, help us get back in harness quickly here. Give us wisdom to understand what is going on. More than that, give us an idea about what you want us to do about whatever it is. All right, that was a bit generic, but what’s going on?

Jacob replied, Ralph and Major have discovered an anomaly in the Swamp hierarchy. At a fairly high level, they found a man living in St. Jerome, Utah. His name is Chauncy Snow, a mayor. But his communications with the Swamp are very widespread and extensive.

Ralph spoke up. "Hello Denzell. Major is the one who found our first inkling of what we think we are facing. He was researching St. Jerome, and kept on running across stories of human and sex trafficking. It turns out that Las Vegas is one of the primary harvesting sites for men and women of all ages.

"One article from law enforcement in Utah talked about how St. Jerome was an extremely important node in the distribution of these enslaved people. It was a short drive up I-15 from Las Vegas into a new state, then to a clean town where the culture is already conditioned to secrecy by the polygamists living all over far southern Utah.

We’re hoping, Raquel, that you can find out more. Snow is too busy with the Swamp residents. We’ve become convinced that he’s supplying sex slaves, domestic help, and whatever the market is willing to pay—for the entire DC area, both inside and outside the beltway.

Whoa! Give me a second, please. Raquel was having some difficulty with the sudden shift from vacation to vocation. She held a hand in front of her face while she dove deep into prayer. Spiritual language began flowing out of her. To her right, Denzell joined her.

After a long minute or so, she dropped her hand and faced her screen again. "Sorry ‘bout that. That was a pretty radical shift of head space. I simply had to hear from the Lord about what is going on. He got me calmed down. But He said this is the first knowledge of our next bit of work.

Evidently, He’s fed up with the unheard cries of these trafficked people. He is asking us to help Him do something about it. If I understand correctly, He wants to save and deliver the slaves. You know how He can sometimes get a bit snarky. He said, ‘The Tribulation will deal with the perpetrators.’ I got the impression that those fools are in deeper trouble than they can imagine.

Rachael was laughing, "I’ve not heard the Lord described as snarky. But it touches Truth. He is really funny.

"I forget that the whole time between our leaving to join Him and coming back with Him as he begins His reign is basically a massive cleanup operation. I’ve always been struck by the words in Isaiah 24: 5, the earth lies polluted under its inhabitants. I guess the Lord needs to get those he can save out of danger. And there’s not much time left. She shook her head, Sorry, a pastor’s always on duty."

Denzell exclaimed, Don’t be sorry! That’s strong confirmation about what we’re about launch into. It encouraged me a lot.

Thank you, son. That blesses me to hear that.

After another few minutes, they said goodbye to the East Coast. Denzell pushed back his chair, Well, Jacob, I guess I better share what the Lord dropped on me as we drove down from Santa Fe this morning.

Jacob smiled, OK, whatcha got? He pushed his chair back to listen.

"Actually, it’s a problem for Denzell, I think. But it just dropped into my brain that we need to trade in the CR-V for a mobile office in cargo/passenger van. I think it can be an official company van for Ascended Light.

We’ll need seating for a half dozen or so. I think he’s saying that with the skateboard design of the modern electric vehicles, the computer and the secure satellite access hardware can be moved to what used to be the engine compartment. It could be more secure there, and not get in the way of the passengers.

Jacob chuckled. Denzell will be on it like a dog on a fresh bone. I’ll let him know.

Tell him he’ll get his CR-V back.

    All six of them chuckled.

    Getting home

Later Saturday, July 13: Tue & Freau’s home, Albuquerque

After they left Placitas, Denzell called Einar. He shared that they’d be home in a few minutes—told him they’d had an illuminating discussion with Black Sail.

    Einar asked, Have you eaten?

No, not since breakfast this morning.

Why don’t you load your stuff into the house. The three of us will rustle up some grub. Just come over when you’re ready. We have some things for you to hear also.

Raquel blurted, O boy, it’s back in harness again.

    Surprised?

Nope. We’ll see you in a bit.

When they got home, They brought in the luggage. Denzell hung up some of the clothes which might wrinkle while Rachel quickly cleaned her face.

As she came out of the bathroom, Denzell grabbed her up in his arms. What a life the Lord has given us, babe. I’m so pleased you’re walking this with me. You make it all a joy, a time of fruitful working.

I feel the same. She raised her face, and they kissed each other solidly easing themselves back into the work.

When they got over to Einar’s, the greetings and welcomes took some time. Valaria was clearly coming out of her shell. Raquel was really happy to see that.

Supper was great again. They had leftover fajita makings. All they’d had to do was heat the meat, whip up some fresh guacamole, and slice up some fresh bunny food.

After supper, they cleaned up and then quickly found out that the monsoons had arrived. It was way too humid to sit on the patio in the heat (it had to be almost in the thirties for the humidity percentage—clearly intolerable). So, they adjourned to the living room. Raquel led out, All right, you two. Are we really talking chaperons?

Benjamin laughed, They already have one.

    All right, but it’s needed?

Yes, probably so. Einar responded. We’ve both been married before. So, holding back is a bit more difficult. Plus, we’ve really gotten close. Valaria is really good for me.

    Valaria was really quiet.

Raquel noticed, and asked softly, What about you, Valaria? Why so quiet?

Valaria flashed her shy smile. I’ve been trying to explain to Einar how damaged I am. I don’t think he understands. But in many ways I’ve been ruined.

Why would you say such a thing? The Lord has accepted you, and he can surely clean you up.

"I suppose, but I haven’t even been able to tell Einar yet. I wasn’t really married. The man I was with owned me. The children who were killed? He was delivering them to a group in the South Valley to sell to others.

The Lord is healing me, but I don’t have normal reactions to men. I don’t react the way normal women react. She burst into tears.

Einar moved over and knelt in front of her, wrapping her in his long arms. Valaria, the Lord has been preparing me. I knew something had happened, this is not as bad as I had imagined.

He pulled back and looked her in the eyes. Valaria, I love you. The Lord will heal you completely. He can even heal your memories. Angie and I used to pray for healing of the memories a lot. He pulled her back into his arms, and she responded in kind. Tue and Freau moved out of the loveseat to give them room.

After a couple of minutes, they moved over into the loveseat and sat close with their arms around each other.

Denzell resumed the conversation. "You’re not going to believe what we have to share about what we learned in Placitas this afternoon. Basically, the Lord gave us our next assignment. It’s a result of what Black Sail East has found within Tarskyne’s portion of the Swamp hierarchy. Ralph and Major found this man high up in the hierarchy who didn’t look like he belonged.

This man, named Chauncy Snow, lives in St. Jerome, Utah. He’s just a businessman and the Mayor. But, the amount of communication with many of the Swamp denizens is huge. Major found, doing research, some releases from Utah law enforcement about St. Jerome. It’s evidently a major staging node in the distribution network for trafficking—for sex, domestic help, and slave labor. Tell them what the Lord told you, Freau.

"He told me that a lot of that is going on. He is fed up with the cries of the trafficked. He wants us to help them. He actually told me that the Tribulation would take care of the traffickers. He is calling us to bring these modern slaves to the Lord and get them set free.

It sounds like He has already saved you and set you free, Valaria. I know that Einar will consider it a joy to help with your healing. I don’t know of anyone who knows the Lord better than he does.

Tue added, What Ralph was saying is that this is a major problem in the United States. It’s all driven by people with the money to buy people. There are a lot of them here among the filthy rich. It’s yet another result of the spirit of lawlessness that is sweeping the world.

Einar and Valaria were talking quietly on the loveseat. Finally, they looked up. They were surprised to see the other three watching them. Einar spoke, Valaria and I have been talking. I will be talking to Henry, Holden, and Gilda tomorrow morning at church. Our plan is to get married as soon as we can. The only problem seems to be that Valaria has no birth certificate or anything from before she was trafficked. She was in a group of illegal immigrants who came up from Central America in the 1970s. She was only eight or nine. She doesn’t even know what country she’s from. Her owner had all her papers.

Denzell responded to that. Congratulations! Freau and I are really pleased. I’m sure that Rachael has the connections to get the ID taken care of. She and Jacob are close friends of former President Aragón, right? Surely they can cut the red tape.

Einar chuckled, Actually, you have no idea how good she is at cutting red tape. We only have to pray that she doesn’t cut the people putting up the tape barriers. Some old habits die hard.

They all laughed. The conversation for the rest of the evening was spirited, to say the least.

Some things are better left unsaid

    Sunday, July 14: Albuquerque

Einar and Valaria talked with Holden and Gilda Metcalf. Pastor Henry just had no idea what to do with no birth certificate. On Tuesday evening, the 16th, the Metcalfs came over to Einar’s home and married the couple. Black Sail West was there, as well as Shining Light/Ascended Light.

Rachael had assured them that she would get an official birth certificate, but for today this was an official spiritual ceremony within the Kingdom of God. Before God, they were married. And they were very happy. All the personnel in the New Mexico Black Sail and Shining Light group were overjoyed. The governmental legalities would be covered as soon as possible—until then, no one was going to tell.

After the wedding, the Metcalfs went home. Everyone else except for the couple adjourned to the Trujillo place. The Hauges left for their honeymoon. Einar had gotten a room at the Terrace on top of the La Fonda to start. They planned on being gone for at least a week—maybe more. Benjamin would hold down the fort at Einar’s place.

Freau had a problem they needed to discuss. They were all jammed into their living room. "I guess I just need to ask all of you for advice. I really need to have Shiry around here to help me on the computers.

So, the first issue is where can she stay while she comes here to work? Some days, I’ll need her help eight hours a day, maybe more than that. I guess we can work online, but in many cases I’ll need her here to talk things out. My assumption is that she can’t live in Valaria’s room without a chaperon. Plus we’ll need the Hauges’ approval. We don’t have room here. Am I missing something obvious? What ideas do we have?

Shiry spoke first, I feel bad we haven’t had time to talk about these things, but I’ve been home-schooled my whole life. Starting last year, I entered Reagent University’s Online Computer Engineering curriculum. I was doing that part-time while I finished up my high school requirements. I should finish my high school materials this fall. So, to keep it short, my schooling is all online. I know you’re surprised that I can handle online work fairly well.

That brought general chuckles throughout the group. She continued, "My father has already approved for me to move into Black Sail’s Placitas Campus for school this fall. So, I will be living up there. I have one of the rooms in the Lee’s basement.

Normally, I will be working in the conference room at the Jacksons. I’ll have a computer set up which basically matches yours, Freau. As an employee of Shining Light, I’m told I’ll get a car—one of the little Souls, I think. So, unless I don’t understand my options, I believe I’ll be able to drive in here almost any day.

Raquel was overjoyed. Let me see if I understand. It seems to me that we can get you another computer here. That way when we need to talk, you could come in here and still go to school from here. Maybe I could enroll in Reagent and take some courses also. I’m mainly self-taught.

Rachael was thrilled, I am so pleased. I’ve been wondering how we could provide more educational support. This all sounds like a match made in heaven. Between the two of us, Freau, we’ll get her whipped into shape!

The room dissolved into laughter, chatter, and general fellowship. Bebe was just beaming about his little girl.

    The work begins

Wednesday, July 17: Ascended Light studio, Albuquerque

Shiry had just showed up. Denzell and Benjamin were discussing what they might need to get groups of freed slaves out and safe, and how to locate places to send them. Freau was pleased she had help, as she was getting nowhere fast.

Hi Shiry, you ready to get to work?

    Yeah. Whatcha doin’?

"You’ll only have the laptop for now. We can order the computer today. I’ve wanted to trade mine in for a new one with the latest in Apple Silicon. We’ll just go to Apple online and order two
