About the Author
To my son and my daughter, in hopes they will understand that God had spared my life, intervened on many occasions, and had shown his love, grace, and mercy so I could be here for them, and hopefully, they, too, would draw closer to him. I pray constantly for their growth with his mercy. I also would hope that any of my family or friends reading this would examine their life and see the many times God intervened in their walk, sparing them or a loved one, providing for them, and that they may give him the glory. That is my prayer for all.
Chapter 1
The Beginning
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own.
—1 Corinthians 6:19 (ESV)
My story begins on July 23, 1964. The time is not as important as the fact that after nine months in the womb, God breathed life into me. Genesis 2:7 says that, and I believe it, in fact, that every living creature God breathed life into, but we as human life-forms, he made us in his image. Physical or spiritual? That's a good question. Why did God create us, and what is our purpose on this earth? Psalm 57:2 says God has numbered our days and we are here to serve his purpose in our lifetime, which brings me to this question: does God intervene in our life so that we fulfill our days for his purpose? Zephaniah 3 tells us that he is in the midst of us and will save us and deliver us. So my life events that include several accounts of divine intervention should not be surprising but should only lead to the questions I have regarding what it is that God wants to use me for.
I was raised almost all my life in the church and come from a family who spent a lot of time on their knees in prayer. As I was raised for the most part by my grandmother—who was the most God-fearing woman I ever knew—she not only prayed continually (1 Thessalonians 5:17: Pray without ceasing
), but she believed in praying for anything, anyone, and anytime. She believed we should, as well. I loved attending church with her, as did my sister Deana. Our pastor at that time was a great man in my eyes, and he did so much for me growing up. I believe that is the one thing that kept my faith in the church to this day, although that was tested later in life and I fell out of the belief of a people's church, where Christianity was lost although the people were there—God was absent, but ego was present. That's a different story though. My grandma was a strong Christian woman to the end. So my story goes on to the many events that serve not only to prove to me that we have a destiny that is for the purpose of God and his kingdom but also, hopefully, to show others that he controls everyone's lives and will create intervention to remind us to stay the course. I hope my interventions will spark your memory for all the great things God has done in your life and move you to seek what it is God would have you do to benefit his kingdom.
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
—Romans 8:28
Chapter 2
Angels in the Room
Behold, I send an Angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.
—Exodus 23:20
Life was not the greatest when I was a child; we had no money, no car, barely had a roof over our heads—but my mother loved us. When I say us, I am referring to my sister and me. After my parents' divorce (though I was not aware that my mom was pregnant, and I was about to have another little sister), I thought that was the greatest thing in the world—another sister. I was still young, and since my father, having thrown us out in Indiana,
