About this ebook

The bounty hunter rode into the small town. It was a nondescript town that was in the middle of nowhere. You wouldn't find the town on most maps in any of the territories. It even seemed deserted. As he entered the town, he could hear the rustle and howl of the winds as he made his way to the sheriff's office.
"He's here, right on the dot." one of the men said.
There were four men with the sheriff in the office that day. They were all expecting the arrival of the bounty hunter.

The Old Grudge - John J. Law

    CHAPTER ONE: The Ambush

The bounty hunter rode into the small town. It was a nondescript town that was in the middle of nowhere. You wouldn't find the town in most maps in any of the territories. It even seemed deserted. As he entered the town, he could hear the rustle and howl of the winds as he made his way to the sheriff's office.

He's here, right on the dot. one of the men said.

There were four men with the sheriff in the office that day. They were all expecting the arrival of the bounty hunter.

Well, must say he does seem intimidating and such. Sheriff Ronald Muyum said.

He won't be so intimidating when we're done with him. one of the men said.

Now, get outside and talk to him already, sheriff.

The sheriff nodded and stepped out of his office to meet the bounty hunter. He approached him, just as he went down from his horse. The bounty hunter met the sheriff just as he was tying his horse firmly on a nearby post.

Howdy stranger. What brings you 'round these parts? the sheriff said.

I'm here to ask about the bounty you posted. Hear you need some help takin' in some badmen.

The sheriff nodded. That we do. Some really nasty types them badmen... real desperadoes... murderers, horse thieves, cattle rustlers, seems like all a' them rascals settled down these parts. We could use someone to hunt them all down. For a price of course.

The bounty hunter nodded. Of course. he said.

It's only fair an' natural. Now, why don't you step inside my office and we can discuss this in more detail?

All right I'm eager to sign whatever I need to and get to the business of tracking those varmints.

Yeah, we sure need your help with 'em, bounty hunter. If you'll step inside, please.

The sheriff let the bounty hunter enter the office first. The bounty hunter stepped inside the office and did not think much of the sheriff's gesture. That would be a costly mistake for him.

Once he entered the sheriff's office, the bounty hunter felt something large, solid and heavy strike him from behind. The bounty hunter felt his legs buckle, and everything started to go black, but he struggled to stay conscious.

Any normal man would have been knocked out instantly, but not the bounty hunter. He still managed to stay on his feet, and tried to reach for his guns, but it was a futile attempt. The ambush had been set, and he had fallen for it.

He's still on his feet! The man must have oaks for legs! one of the men said.

Well, knock that stupid oak of a man down then! He may be strong but he's still a man, and he didn't expect none a' this!

The man was right. The bounty hunter was still on the losing end of all of this, and they pressed their advantage hard. Before the
