BOLDER BEAUTY BUSINESS AND THE MASTER’S OF COLOR PROGRAM

    Bolder Beauty™

Bolder Beauty™ and Bolder Color™ were designed to help Beauty Pros in two major areas of their career that have not been updated for decades, Business and Color.

These two areas have the largest financial impacts; and have the greatest domino effect on the Beauty Industry as a whole. If Beauty Pros do not succeed, the Beauty Pro Industry will not succeed.

    BOLDER BEAUTY™ BUSINESS

Starting in 2024 there will be massive impacts to our industry that will effect Cosmetology Schools and Salons; which may also eventually effect Pro Licensure. The U.S. is also facing a major Generational Trend in Tipping Cancel Culture, which is already effecting Beauty Pros.

Bolder Beauty™ is ahead of the curve with what Beauty Pros are facing with Inflation, Modern Business Practices, Client Expectations of Technical Coloring Skills, and Overall Modernized Skills.

    BOLDER COLOR™ SKILLS

Bolder Color™ introduces New Color Theory, New Color-Correction and Transformation Theory, and New Standardized Coloring Techniques for the Modern Beauty Pro.

We call this The Master’s Of Color™ Program. Our New Color Training will help Beauty Pros perform reliable consultations, make the best decisions for clients in the long-term, and choose the best pathways for their clients, especially regarding Color-Corrections and Transformations.

    New Bolder Color™ Theory introduces:

    Color-Correction Theory

    Gold Theory Priming

    Gold Theory Decolorizing

    Auburn Theory Priming

    Direct Dye ‘Natural’ Color Theory

And Black Direct Dye Color Theory

    BOLDER BEAUTY™ SIGNATURE SERVICES

    BOOK ENDNOTES

The 2024 Salon Services Menu+ Book Endnotes, will read like it’s its own separate book. The Endnotes hold all the referenced article URL’s of information, so you can easily find where they came from.

The Book Endnotes is a great section for anyone who just wants to read the facts of this book, without the Bolder Beauty™ sections, and it still has a great flow.

    THE TARGETING OF COSMETOLOGY

If you are thinking about going to school, are new to this industry, or have been in it for a long time- you need to know about the Types of Cosmetology Legislation that are being Proposed, and more importantly, why they’re being proposed.

    Cosmetology Legislation is effected by:

    - The way salons want to do business, like Drybar and The Drybar Bill, which greatly increased the Deregulating Conversation among Law Firms and Lobbyists, and began chipping away at the Cosmetology License Nationwide

    - The way Cosmetology Schools are run and how much they want to charge, like the Marinello Schools of Beauty fiasco and Regency Beauty Institute closures, which triggered the The New Gainful Employment Rule targeting cosmetology

    - The Governing Bodies that helped Cosmetology become Licensed, and the Education that they chose for Standardization at that time, like the National Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology

    - And the Businesses that Sponsor those Governing Bodies, that are part of the Foundations of the Failing Existing Model, like Milady Standard which is greatly out-of-date

The Cosmetology Industry needs a publicly honest conversation with working stylists in this current climate, and an invigorating upgrade that is way past due.

Let’s hope this book can start that conversation and create actionable change that will be positive for Cosmetology and Cosmetologists.

OVERCOMING INFLATION USING STRATEGY AND GROWTH

    Bolder Beauty™

This book is for every stylist- from a cosmetology student beginning their career to the seasoned stylist who needs to strategize and grow.

So, let’s break the ice with some uncomfortable career facts:

    - Where you choose to work after you’re done with cosmetology school can make or break your career.

    - That job will either allow you to pay off your student loan or it will keep you in debt. The clientele that you have invested in will determine how much you’ll be charging one year from now, a decade from now, and even multiple decades from now.

Your finances will be impacted by your choices.

The thing about life, business, and the economy is - is that it’s changing as you’re living it. It’s relative. Everything I know is because I can look back on it. It wasn’t something to perceive in the moment, there was nothing to compare it to.

My long span of experience provides a full perspective of how our industry has, and has not changed, since the 1990s. I am also very well-versed on how much inflation has impacted the beauty industry and the lives of younger generations of stylists (who have no assets to offset current inflation).

There may be things uncovered in this book that will make leaders in the beauty industry feel uncomfortable. I am asking you to take your personal feelings out of the equation and understand that this is reality. Many stylists and their families have been negatively impacted by issues discussed in this book; and we need to update regardless of anyone’s personal feelings about how they have run their salons, COS schools, or COS organizations.

The future and fate of beauty pros in our industry are worth a lot more than an ego.

COMPETITIVE PRICING, INFLATION, AND LIVABLE WAGES

In the 1990s we were charging $45 for Haircuts, and my Rent for a 1 bedroom and 1 bathroom Apartment was also only $750.

Stylists are still charging $45 for a Haircut, and that same Apartment is $1850 today. ¹

The National Average for a Signature Haircut is $50 ²

That Dollar is worth 50% Less today ³

These numbers are not conducive for success. Unless, you’re living in a city where your rent or mortgage is still approximately $800.

If that $45 Haircut kept up with Inflation, today it would be a $90 Average Haircut. ⁵ In some states, it would be slightly more. Colorado, for instance, would be $95.

That’s just an Average Haircut keeping up with Inflation, it doesn’t even cover years of experience. Let that sink in.

    1995 $45 Haircut → 2023 $90 Haircut

That $45 Haircut Has 50% LESS Spending Power Today.

    Outdated Competitive Pricing Models

Competitive Pricing is basically the Average Price Points of Competitor’s Services or Goods in an area. It is an assumption of doing Market Research and actual number crunching… except when no one has been doing the actual number crunching.
