GenerationZ Lesson Design
The GenerationZ lesson structure is modeled after the 5E Lesson Model , a structure used in public school classrooms nationwide, primarily in Science, Social Studies and Math classes. Its predominant strength is that it allows students to make meaning of what they are being taught through using concrete representation, interactive activities, student dialogue, and inquiry.
Each GenerationZ Bible lesson plan contains the following elements:
In addition, you will find Teacher Tips (for face-to-face and online settings) and Time to Teach notes embedded in the lessons to support your planning and creativity process. Please keep in mind that these are recommendations and should not take away from your need to personally study, research, and prepare for your groups.
Online Teacher Tip Resources
Embedded in each lesson are Online Teacher Tips. These are suggested ideas on how to intentionally incorporate technology to share the Gospel with more students AND involve parents as their children learn the Word of God regardless of the setting. Before teaching any lesson, preparation is vital, and if you are planning to include the Online Teacher Tips , then make sure you are comfortable with the tools, their features, and how they will be used during each lesson.
Included in the Character of Christ series, you will find the following online applications and websites, their URLs, and a short description of how it may be used (description has been taken from each tools’ website):
The Character of Christ Overview
For today’s new generation of Kingdom Builders either to begin or further develop their identity in Christ, it is essential to know His Character. What kind of person was He during His time on this earth? What was in His heart? How did He conduct Himself when He was around other people? As mature Believers, we get it! Right? We know the kind of person that Jesus was. But how do you explain what YOU know and make it relatable to your students?
This series will highlight how Jesus thought, served, and interacted with people during His earthly ministry. The scripture, Philippians 2:5-11, provides the Biblical foundation for each lesson. It opens a window for your students to learn about Christ’s character while providing them with opportunities to reflect on their own character. There are many factors that can be highlighted from this selected Scripture. The lessons address three major character traits: Service, Attitude, and Obedience. Regardless of the age group you teach, these three areas resonate loudly with parents, teachers, church, and community leaders as being areas where adolescents find great conflict. Kids have admitted that they find themselves fighting bad attitudes and thoughts, battling disobedience, and not being concerned about serving/helping/ministering to other people.
So allow this resource to be a Spiritual gateway that leads your students’ thoughts and minds to Christ. Provide them with the tools they will need to live an obedient life.
Allow them to understand what service in God’s Kingdom looks like at home, school, and in their neighborhoods.
At the end of each lesson, you will find a Resource section
that contains the materials for each lesson activity. In addition, there is a resource for you: the Teacher Planning and Reflections page. Before you stand to share God’s Word to your students, do not neglect your meditation and reflection time, for each topic.
You are not expected to be perfect. However, know that the most important thing you can do in your preparation and planning is to be honest with God. Where are you in being obedient to God? Are your thoughts and actions like
