Introduction
Even before the day I felt the smooth texture of my hard-earned cash between my fingers, I was already halfway through my plans to squander it. As someone who couldn’t even bear the thought of how horrifying her curves looked in the mirror, I had been starving myself for the past few weeks.
Therefore, though plenty of items had found their way to my to-do list, expensive mouth-watering dishes were my apex priority.
I decided to execute my master plan of jumping into a pile of food under the guise of reuniting with my friend at a nearby cafe. Shiny lobsters, foamy coffees, and greasy noodles arrived at our table within no time, and my friend watched agape as I dug in.
She was probably shocked at how I could go on eating so unabashedly with such a fat body. And so was I. The next morning, my weight on the weighing scale had increased by almost two pounds. I slipped into depression almost instantly and resumed my guilt trip again.
How could I have done this to myself? Why can’t I just be who I want to be? Why won’t dieting work for me? Why do I feel more starved than others do?
Intrusive thoughts clouded my head, and I decided that enough was enough. I couldn’t go on cycling this guilt till eternity and won’t go on with dieting when it wasn’t bearing me any positive results.
I joined a gym, resisted each invitation that tempted me to step outside of my house, and in no more than a few months, I lost 50 lbs. Now that I had finally achieved my dream body, I realized that I still wasn’t happy.
What had happened was that on my way to happiness, I had let a very simple truth slip out of my mind; that happiness had always been within my reach, I had just lacked the courage to extend my hand and grab it because I had presumed myself to be unworthy of it.
As surprising as it might sound, chances are that you have been living the same lie as well. If you have been consuming your days counting your imperfections and the missing comforts of your life or waiting for the next big breakthrough that would make all your struggles worth it, you have been doing it all wrong.
Sometimes, the only person holding you back from achieving success is you. If you have been focusing on your shortcomings to the extent that you can’t even recall what goals you aspired for in the beginning, you have been robbing yourself of the time you could have preoccupied with work.
Building a successful future can be tough work, especially when it demands hard-earned qualities such as goal-setting, resilience, and a positive mindset.
The moment you come across the epiphany that life will throw hurdles in your road to strengthen and define you and that instead of handing them the reins over you, you should fight against your struggles to keep yourself in control, you can start resorting to gratitude to wreak positivity into your life like never before.
