    Foreword

Self-motivation:  Can have many definitions. For me, this one best describes my thoughts on self-motivation. The ability to drive oneself to take initiative and action to pursue goals and complete tasks. It is an inner drive to take action, to create and achieve. It’s what pushes you to keep going on tasks, especially those you’re pursuing because you want to, not because someone told you to (soulsalt.com)

I think it comes down to, not what we want or don’t want to? Nor what we can and cannot do? Instead, knowing what I can do and do I want to do it! Am I willing to make the effort to put in the time and work necessary to complete the task or goal I have set?

It all begins with the inner self. What drives you? What makes you get up to start and get on with the day. Your day! How do you set the tone for the day or the moment, to accomplish that task or daily goal? For me, these three questions are how I begin my day and set the tone for self-motivation; so that I will accomplish my daily goals and tasks.

Through trial and error, I have learned and truly come to appreciate that a positive mindset will lead to a positive attitude in life. I have also learned that the best goals and tasks need to be realistically based on your personal truth. Do I set a goal or task that I hope I can achieve or do I set a goal or task that I know I will accomplish? The latter wins every time. So, I have learned to begin my day by first checking to see how healthy am I feeling today. Did I get enough sleep and rest? If I have, I feel energized, if not, I start the day sluggishly. This lets me know I won’t be as productive as I should and will have to step up my game to get things accomplished to meet the pace of the day; and be ready for the unexpected and most of all be flexible! As perfection is never a guarantee!

A self-motivation routine is essential in maintaining a positive attitude. So, I have cultivated the practice of a positive mindset on a daily basis! Firstly, I do a quick mindfulness meditative exercise with some body stretches, this clears my mind. As I am one who believes the past is gone, the present is here and now and the future is yet to come and is not promised to me. Secondly, I throw on a classical piece of music from my classical collection, as I am doing this, I am practicing positive affirmations that encourage me in life, Lastly, after my general morning routine. I look at what is required of me for the day and I set my daily goals with intent and flexibility; knowing what I can honestly accomplish on the given day. I call this "Starting my self-motivation engine to stay the course, to keep the engine going to stay aligned and to keep going even in
