Defining the terms teenager and Adolescent

    What is puberty?

Puberty refers to physical changes that are made when a child's body transitions into an adult body. During this process, the body is capable of sexual reproduction. A girl's ovaries and a boy’s testes produce hormones that increase libido (overall sex drive). These hormones also prompt the development and the transformation of the body.

Puberty usually starts earlier in girls than in boys. Girls are usually more anxious as they await their first period. All parents should equip their girls with information about menstruation before it starts. This is a very big step for them and it can be scary. Show them how to use the sanitary napkins and answer all questions they may have. Accessing information and acquiring the necessary supplies they will need during their period will help to reduce their anxiety.
