Sex and body
Answered by Family Planning NSW associate medical director Dr Clare Boerma.
What do you do if you go to have sex with a guy and he just doesn’t fit. Like, if he’s too big for you? I really want to do it, but it’s sooo uncomfortable!

That sounds really frustrating. Fortunately, vaginas are amazingly dynamic organs, able to stretch and expand to even fit a baby through! With sufficient time, relaxation and sexual arousal, most vaginas are capable of accommodating any size of penis. Ensure that you’re relaxed and comfortable. If you’re tense or anticipating pain, your pelvic floor muscles may tighten, making penetration painful or even impossible. Take your time, enjoy ample foreplay and stimulation, as well as lube, to help with the lubrication and dilation of the vagina. It’s important not to persevere with sex if it’s uncomfortable. Experiencing pain can lead our pelvic floor muscles to tighten further, setting up a cycle to make it potentially more painful. Try different sex positions, considering ones that may give you more control and avoid discomfort.
