This book presents ideas and lays out solutions on What KENYANS MUST do- across political, tribal, and class divides to ensure a better Kenya for all to-THRIVE. Ordinary Kenyans have fallen prey of political deceit and exposed their gullibility by expecting different results from the political class, public servants, and so-called experts. Instead of Kenyans resigning to fate and allowing the leadership to profit from their gullibility and lack of accountability, the book proposes strategies and ideas that will create a system that works for all Kenyans, premised on President Abraham Lincoln's rallying call of building "a government of the people, by the people, for the people". The solutions proposed reject the possibility of getting hold of lifelong powers, authority, and privileges. It will instead turn governance and government into a genuine transformational service working in the best interests of the people and the Nation. The book invites Kenyans and friends, on the journey to explore the ideas, concepts, and suggestions made with an open mind and heart. As noted, whether Kenyans hold differing political ideologies, support different parties, hold any historical disparities, belong to different traditional or cultural backgrounds, whether they have a common ancestral background or not, they are all Kenyans and should work towards a united Kenya, which is home for all generations, past, present, and future.

Foreword from the Authors

The authors of this book are ordinary citizens optimistic about the future of Nations. They are, however, a skeptic of the promises made by politicians and so-called experts. The authors set out to offer views, analysis, and suggestions on what Kenyans must do across political, tribal and class divides to ensure a better Kenya for all. Kenyans cannot do the same things, make the same mistakes, allow themselves to be gullible, and expect different results, particularly from politicians, public servants, and so-called experts. The authors call for a complete turnaround from the past to build a sustainable future.

After watching numerous political debates and commentaries while carefully following the campaign rallies over the decades, we could say that we are exhausted and disappointed after hearing similar promises when the political class speaks. However, listening to the public debates, following the communication in the media spaces, and discussions with numerous common Mwananchi[1], it is evident that Kenyans are aware of what is ailing the Nation. We have people offering solutions everywhere and one would imagine that they would make the best leaders only to disappoint when they ascend to power. The last two decades have been filled with mixed emotions. We do acknowledge that Kenya has made great progress in developing its infrastructure, healthcare systems, housing, and business climate. But, there are instances where the positives have been eroded by the negative things meted out by the reigning administration.

We have seen astounding levels of corruption within and outside government steered by the same leaders who promised us, Canaan[2].  We have witnessed the highest-ever rate of unemployment with so many educated, but jobless and desperate. The level of depression, anxiety, and mental illnesses leading to alcoholism and the breakdown of families have skyrocketed. The ever-so-blinding tribalism has rendered its eye once again as if the country was never at the brink of tribal cleansing in the wake of the 2007/8 election. Kenyans don’t seem to have forgotten everything they learned from the experience; we are not even capable of learning from neighboring countries such as Rwanda and South Sudan. We are very sure that if a similar survey was conducted now as it was after the 2002 election[3], the results would be quite different: Kenyans have moved from the very optimistic to quite pessimistic.

What is astounding, following the political debates and rallies, is that those promising the goodies seem to make pronouncements that are unfounded or not backed by facts or policies. Some are oblivious to the constitutional dispensation and hold misplaced ideologies that seem empty rhetoric. Rather flabbergasting is that they speak from a point of view of them already being in power or having run a government as heads of a state. This sounds like, "If you elect me, I will give ..., I will ensure that ..., I will end ... etc. Unlike most of them, we offer an idea, lay out the concepts, and follow up with actual steps on how Kenyans can change the country’s social fabric regardless of who is in power. The goal is to restore power to the people rather than have a few cliques of entitled leaders who are not in touch with the common ‘Mwananchi’ lifestyle, and ideals to govern the country with everyone’s prosperity in mind. The system we propose is not centered on any leader, or those in the deep state, but is an approach in which the worth is in every Kenyan working for the benefit of the people while the incapable leaders would not get a chance to represent Kenyans.

We know that power corrupts, thus this proposed solution will ensure that those in positions of power will not get too comfortable to get corrupted. The concept is premised on President Abraham Lincoln’s rallying call of building "a government of the people, by the people, for the people".  The solutions we propose reject the possibility of getting hold of lifelong authority and privileges. It will instead turn governance and government into a genuine transitory service working in the best interests of the people and the state.
