Tara awoke to the sound of rain on her window. She lay there for a moment, looking out at the clouds. The light outside was muted and gray, and she could hear the steady rhythm of rain hitting the glass. She rolled over to see her husband Anthony asleep beside her, his hand resting lightly on her hip. He looked more peaceful than usual, but then he always did when he slept like this.

She reached up with her right hand and gently took his hand in hers. He stirred, but didn't wake. Good morning, she whispered softly. She kissed him on the forehead as she moved away from him, feeling his hand slip back onto her shoulder. He began to stir again.

Is it raining? he asked sleepily.

Yes. Tara smiled. It's been so long since we've had any real rain that I think everyone has forgotten what it sounds like.

He rolled over and pushed himself up on his elbow. How long have you been awake?

I just woke up. Tara looked out the window again. I guess you and Phil will have the day off.

Anthony and Phil co-owned a lawn care company. They had gone into business together after graduating high school. By the time they were twenty-two, their business was doing pretty well for itself, mostly because they worked hard and charged fair prices for their work. And by working hard she meant that they both started at about six o'clock in the morning and stayed at it until they'd finished all their clients, no matter how long it took. It was one of the things she admired about them.

Yeah, I'll probably just hang around here today. Anthony yawned. You want me to make some coffee? You can go take a shower first if you want.

Tara sat up and stretched. That sounds perfect. Thanks.
