About this ebook

"So stand firm and straight (on the religion of Islamic Monotheism) as you are commanded, you and those (your companions) who turn in repentance (unto Allah) with you, and transgress not (Allah's legal limits). Verily, He is All-Seer of what you do"

[Surah Hood 11:112].

When a person came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me of something in Islam that I shall not ask anyone else about after you. He said: "Say, 'I believe in Allah,' then stand firm and straight."

Narrated by Ahmad (14991) and at-Tirmidhi (2410); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh at-Tirmidhi

This book describes the ways that help a person to remain steadfast in adhering to religion, especially in times of fitnah (temptation).

This book is a translation of a lecture given by Shaykh Abd al-Razzaq bin Abd al-Muhsin al-Badr, may Allah protect him. It contains both the Arabic and the English translation. This will help those learning Arabic. By reading the translation you will get to know the ways that you can be steadfast in this religion.

We ask Allah to keep us and our Muslim brothers and sisters steadfast in His religion, and to protect us from fitnah, both visible and invisible.

    Introduction

So stand firm and straight (on the religion of Islamic Monotheism) as you are commanded, you and those (your companions) who turn in repentance (unto Allah) with you, and transgress not (Allah’s legal limits). Verily, He is All-Seer of what you do

    [Surah Hood 11:112].

When a person came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah, tell me of something in Islam that I shall not ask anyone else about after you. He said: Say, ‘I believe in Allah,’ then stand firm and straight.

Narrated by Ahmad (14991) and at-Tirmidhi (2410); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh at-Tirmidhi

The ways that help a person to remain steadfast in adhering to religion, especially in times of fitnah (temptation), are of two types:

The first type: means that increase one's faith and belief. They encourage a person to obey Allah and do righteous deeds, by which he will taste the sweetness of faith.

This includes seeking guidance to the straight path of Allah. In every prayer, a Muslim must say this prayer: Show us the straight path [Al-Fatihah 1:6].

At-Tabaraani narrated in Al Kabeer (7135) that Shaddad ibn Aus (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: O Shadad ibn Aws, if you see people eager to collect gold and silver, then be eager to collect these words:

Allaahumma innee as-aluka ath-Thabata fil Amr, wal azeemata alar-Rushd, wa as-aluka Moojibati Rahmatika wa Azaaima Maghfiratika, wa as-aluka Shukra Ni’matik,  wa husna ibadaatik, wa as-aluka Qalban Saleeema wa Lisaanan Saadiqa, wa as-Aluka min khairi ma Ta’lamu, wa Audhubika min Sharri ma Ta’lamu, wa astaghfiruka limaa Ta’lamu, Innaka Anta Allaamul- Ghuyoob.

"O Allah, verily I ask You for the strength of perseverance in obedience on the Deen (the religion of Islam), and firmness of heart (determination) in practicing of the Deen and goodness.  And I ask You for that which obligates Your mercy and the resolve to earn Your forgiveness.  And I ask You for the ability to be grateful for Your favors and to worship You in the right and good way.  And I ask You for a clean heart in faith, free from desires, and a truthful tongue.  And I ask You for the best of what You know, and I seek refuge with You from the evil of what You know, and I ask forgiveness for what You know.  Indeed, You are the One who knows the unseen."

It has been authenticated by Al-Albani in Silsilatul Ahkam Ash-Shahihah, no. 3228).

Another way to be steadfast is as follows:

Holding fast to the religion of Allah, the Almighty, and
