    Bismillahir Rahmaanir Raheem.

In the Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

    Preface

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His assistance and forgiveness and we seek refuge with Him from the evil of our souls and our misdeeds.

I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone. He has no partner. I also testify that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is His slave and Messenger.

This is a plain, clear, easy, modern, and simple translation of the Quran along with a beautiful authentic explanation of its verses. The explanations are based on the explanation of At-Tabari, Al-Qurtubi, Jalaalayn, and Ibn Kathir. May Allaah reward abundantly all the scholars.

    Surah 1: al-Fatiha

    The Opening Chapter

    Makkan: 7 Verses

[1:1] In the name of Allah, I start with every name of Allah Almighty and this includes all the beautiful names of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Most Merciful.

[1:2] All the praises and thanks be to Allah, Who has the praise of all creatures, and He alone deserves their praise. Allah is a proper name for the one who is really worthy of worship. Rabb of all worlds, that is, He is the One Who owns all creation - humans, jinns, angels, animals, and others. Rabb means the Lord, the Creator, the Sustainer, Provider, and the Giver of security. The Arabic word "Alamin" – worlds in this verse refers to ‘sign’ - Alama as it is an indication to the One that created the worlds. The creation is a sign to the One Creator who brought them into existence.

[1:3] The All-Merciful, the Most Merciful, that is, one who possesses mercy, which means desiring what is good for those who deserve it.

[1:4] Master of all affairs of the Day of Judgment: This is the Day of Recompense, the Day of Resurrection. The reason for the specific mention of the Day of Judgment is that on that day none will have sovereignty other than Allah, may He be exalted, as Allah’s words indicate, To whom does the kingdom belong today? To Allah [Quran 40:16] He is the Only Owner and the Only Ruling Judge of the Day of Resurrection when accountability, rewards, and punishment take place.

[1:5] You alone we worship, and you alone we ask for help: That is, we reserve the worship for you [alone] by recognizing your unity (tawhid) and so on, and we ask for [Your] support in worship and for each and everything.

[1:6] Guide us to the straight path: that is, show us the way towards it. This is the way of the Prophets (peace be upon them), the Siddiqun (followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in him), the martyrs, and the righteous.

[1:7] The path of those whom you have blessed with guidance, not [the path] of those against whom there is Your anger, and not of those who are astray

Surah Al-Fatihah includes the three types of Tawheed (Islamic Monotheism - affirming the Oneness of Allah).

    1. Tawheed ar-rububiyah: The verse "Lord of the universe", in this Surah affirms the Oneness of Allah.

    2. Tawheed al-uluhiyah: That is, to worship Allah alone. It is derived from the words in this Surah: Praise belongs to Allah and You alone we worship.

    3. Tawheed al-asma was-sifat: Affirming the Oneness of the Divine Names and Attributes. Tawheed of names and attributes means affirming the perfection of the attributes which Allah has ascribed for Himself, and which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has affirmed.

The guidance of Allah Almighty (Guide us to the straight path) implies the affirmation of Prophethood because guidance towards the straight path is impossible without Prophets and Prophethood.

The reward and punishment of actions are proved in this Surah by the guidance of Allah Almighty (Master of the Day of Judgment), and this reward and punishment will be based on justice and fairness because the meaning of Judgment is to reward with justice

And Surah Al-Fatihah also includes the affirmation of destiny (divine decree) and proves that the servant is in fact the doer and acts by his free will. The straight path means knowing the truth and acting upon it.

You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help implies that religion should be kept pure for Allah, whether it is related to worship, asking help, or abstinence.

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.

    Surah 2: Al-Baqara

    The Cow

    Madinan: 286 Verses

In the name of Allah, the All-Merciful, the Most Merciful:

[2:1] Alif lam meem: Allah alone knows exactly
