    Preface

All praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, seek His assistance and forgiveness and we seek refuge with Him from the evil of our souls and our misdeeds.

I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone. He has no partner. I also testify that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is His slave and Messenger.

BIRTH OF MUHAMMAD (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)

The Messenger of Allah is born to Aminah into the clan of Banu Hashim within the tribe of Quraish in Makkah. This occurred in what was known as the Year of the Elephant and in the month of Rabi’ul-Awwal. He was born on a Monday. His father, ‘Abdullah had died two months before his birth, therefore the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was born an orphan.

Aminah was the first to suckle the child. After two or three days he was suckled by Thuwaybah, a slave girl of his uncle Abu Lahab. It was a custom in those days that babies born in the cities were generally given to wet nurses (who became their foster mothers) who took them to their own houses in the outskirts of Makkah (in the desert). Halima (Allah be pleased with her) belonging to the Hawazin tribe in the family of Sa'd came to Makkah and took charge of the child (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and moved to her far off village for his nourishment in the open climate. He remained with her for six years and was nourished in the Hawazin clan.

    -------------

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I am Muhammad, servant of Allah and his Messenger. I do not like that you raise me above my rank that Allah has placed me at.

    OPENING OF THE CHEST

When Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was a child living among Banu Sa'd, with his foster-mother Halimah (Allah be pleased with her), the Angel Jibreel (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to him and opened his chest. He removed a clot from it and cleaned it with Zamzam water. Halimah sent him back to live with his mother after this incident.

    ------------

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was the best of mankind. Allah said: And indeed, you are of a great moral character. (Al-Qalam: 4)

A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) said: His moral character was the Quran
