    SYSTEM 1

    Business Judo®

    You’ll achieve all your goals and more by

    helping other people achieve theirs.

    What’s Business Judo® Anyway?

    Why do successful people always seem to achieve twice as much in half the time? And what if there's a way we could achieve extraordinary results with minimum effort? What if there's a better way to leverage other people's strengths to our advantage? Well, we can! Successful people use Business Judo® every day, and with the 5 five Business

    business judo results.png

    Judo® habits, you can achieve the same.

    We all work hard, don't we? And so do successful people. Because when there is something worth working for, it will take effort to achieve, won’t it? It won’t be easy, will it? And if it were easy, everyone would be doing it, wouldn’t they?

    So when I meet successful people, they all consistently have similar habits that they use, meaning they are working smarter, not harder!

    They have a Positive Mental Attitude (PMA);

    They collaborate;

    They leverage;

    They create Win-Win-Win situations;

    They network.

    Think of a person with tremendous success, and you will see someone using all these 5 habits. And the good news with Business Judo®is that there is room for us all to succeed, unlike the sport of judo, where there can only be one winner. In the sport of Judo, athletes use their opponents' strength to win. And that’s what successful people do. They are experts at leveraging other people's strengths, but they do it in the right way. So there is no room for bad sportsmanship in success.

    The sport of Judo has a moral code, and that same moral code applies to all of us who want to win.

    So here is the moral code of Judo.

    Politeness

    Courageous

    Sincerity

    Honourable

    Modest

    Respectful

    Self-controlled

    Friendly

    So Business Judo® isn't about being aggressive. But it does mean that we do the right thing because it is the right thing to do.

    The Back Story

    In the 90’s, I was taught mental judo well before practising Business Judo®. As a salesperson, I started my career at 18 but quickly grew to develop sales teams. We all worked on 100% straight commission, meaning we didn't get paid if we didn’t get a sale. After I started developing sales teams, Des Bosnic, my boss and mentor, taught me a term called mental judo, which is the discipline of helping other people achieve what they want so I could achieve what I wanted as a sales team manager.

    And learning mental judo instantly made a lot of sense, although it takes a while to get into the habit of using it. Even though I was (sort of) already applying it, as it is natural to think of others in a team. But mental judo is a very deliberate and intentional attitude, and it has to be a part of the DNA of team building. Dedicating ourselves to others to achieve their goals is a mindset that takes a while to adapt because we need to invest time in other people first. You need to help others set their goals and nurture them to achieve what they want to achieve first. Trust me, it works… So teaching and training people to become the best person they can be is a perfect way to achieve what you both want.

    So when I decided to stop selling insurance and start a business of my own, I knew I would use mental judo in business. I would do the same thing, but it is business rather than my sales teams, and I will call it Business Judo®! Which meant my PMA, collaboration, leveraging, networking, and creating Win-Win-Win situations for others in business. And that's the short story of how I came up with the term and five habits of Business Judo®.

    Being new to business, I naturally thought everybody used Business Judo® in some way, and I didn't know anything different. In fact, for years, I would tell people to Google Business Judo® to learn about it, then one day, I did it myself, and there is almost nothing, but now there is!

    So in starting my company, I used Business Judo® just like with sales teams, and I created Win-Win-Win situations for others in business, so I won too. So, in other words, how do I help other people in business achieve what they want, so I can achieve what I want in business too?

    Instantly my PMA was tested too. You see, I left the insurance company in March 2000 to get into the IT industry, and I wanted to start a business in this thing they called the Internet. Then in April 2000, there was the dot-com stock market crash. Technology stock was bad news. For example, Amazon shares at the end of 1999 were about $0.90, and by May 2000, they were $0.05. (At the time of writing this book, over $3,000). All this just as I decided to leave the insurance company to go into IT. So it was tough mentally and financially, but I kept using Business Judo® on myself, turning all my negatives into positives to keep my PMA alive.

    Having strength and confidence in ourselves takes time and experience, and over time we do achieve our black belts in Business Judo®. Yet I nearly failed on my white belt, as I was almost out of the IT industry before I even started, except for one thing, I had already tried a partnership with a website called Medicab. That business failed, but the Business Judo® was perfect, and I learnt that business collaboration works. And Medicab only failed because of the person who owned the name, not the business idea nor how we worked it. They were great, and there were some excellent clients too (which I retained). But Medicab wasn’t to be.

    So our PMA is one thing every successful person has in abundance, and that’s why it’s the first of the habits we must master. It is the secret to maximum efficiency and results for those who do!

    A Positive Mental Attitude (PMA)

    Every disadvantage has the seed of equal or greater advantage.

    Napoleon Hill said that best, didn’t he? But you need to find it!

    So you need to find the positives. And it’s always there. Successful people don’t wait. They look for their advantages as they know that no one else will do that for them! So this is where resilience is built, and your grit and determination appear as you look for your advantages.

    See, the thing is, our PMA alone is not enough. PMA is more than just being happy and positive all the time. Successful people flip adversities into wins because they have the innate ability to find advantages while others focus on the problems. That’s the difference! It’s more than just a positive attitude! How many times is it proven that we can flip negatives into positives? This habit is precisely the grit and determination that successful people develop to overcome setbacks, build their resilience, and maintain their PMA.

    But what does PMA really mean?

    How’s your PMA?

    If there’s one thing we can control, that's our attitude and how we positively respond. It’s a fact of life that we will see adversity, setbacks, hardship, misfortune, difficulty, predicaments, complications, etc. Where do I stop? These are all everyday things everyone needs to deal with, right? If not now, it was last year, or it will be next year. At some point, things will not go our way, will they? We do not know all the events that may go wrong, and we can’t predict nor control what else happens in the universe. But PMA is the discipline of accepting and then using leverage to flip the narrative around for the better. And that’s why PMA is an essential habit of every successful person.

    So Business Judo® It!

    Whenever we hear someone succeed, they almost always say their PMA got them through. It’s their resilience, and they had to find grit and determination and then use that to overcome their adversities and setbacks, don't they? They are saying that they Business Judo® it. So PMA is essential, and just like athletes, our PMA must be a deliberate action in our life too. So learning and using the phrase Business Judo® it allows us to switch mentally and stay strong during tough times.

    Of course, it’s essential to have technical skills, but how important is a good mindset? I mean, it’s easy to sail a ship in the harbour, right? But when those rough times come, the tough get going. Somehow successful people seem to seamlessly turn their negatives into positives and bounce back bigger and stronger, and that’s because PMA is in their

    business judo judo it.png

    DNA and an essential habit in their success!

    By the end of this book, I want you to have embedded the phrase Business Judo® it and Business Judo® this into your DNA too. And to Business Judo® this means that you look for the positives and solutions and find ways to flip the narrative entirely. Flip negatives into positives, disadvantages into advantages and ideas into opportunities.

    How do we Maintain our PMA?

    Life is not always easy, is it? Even in the good times, things can go wrong, we get busy, and stuff can build up. And things are not always in our control either, are they? So adversity is one of the most common things we must deal with.

    What separates ordinary people from extraordinary people?

    business judo negatives.png

    Maintaining their strong PMA while flipping everything into positives.

    And during COVID, things weren’t easy. First, the economy was out of our control. Then there were floods, fires, and lockdowns during the global pandemic. Yet there are those soldiering on. They wake up every day in the face of adversity, looking for ways to turn negative situations into opportunities. That can only happen by maintaining a solid PMA. But our PMA does not mean things are not going to go wrong. PMA is more about the ‘I'm going to push through’ and the ‘what do I need to do’ attitude. When adversity happens in a town, how often do we see people, businesses, and communities come together, and their PMA drives that? That's what sets people apart, their PMA, and we can see the PMA mindset in people, can’t we?

    So people maintain their PMA by continually asking themselves what they need to do. What can I do now to leverage this? Better still, how can I flip this situation around to an advantage and get the most benefits now and later?

    We are What we Think

    What we give comes back tenfold! What we say is what we get! What we think is what will happen! So it's essential to manage our terminology to achieve success. When people ask how you are going, we must flip your negative words into positives. Remember, successful people want to flip adversity; they do positive actions while others complain. The last thing they do is dwell on the negatives. So when someone asks how you’re doing, let them know what your positive actions are, repeat what you are doing to them, and reinforce your PMA as mental judo on yourself. Saying positive things to people is just as important as thinking and doing it.

    So we maintain our PMA by thinking about what we still need to do to get where we want to go. To do this, talk about everything positively and avoid negative talk, as nobody wants to hear that anyway. So, do think and talk things up when you can, but keep things based on reality. And with a strong PMA, your attitude will become: where there is a will, there is a way!

    Think about successful sportspeople. If they went on a football field as a football player, in the surf like a professional surfer, the Olympics as an athlete, we know they have to play to win. We know athletes must compete with the right mindset, or they won't win. And, if their competition wants to win more, they will! So there will be days when they need to perform like the top athlete they aspire to be. And it’s the same for us; sometimes, we need to be like a sportsperson and build up our burning desire to win, not accept what we’re given and have a positive attitude to get what we want. That’s how sportspeople

    business judo lose and win.png

    think.‘Even when I lose, I win’ is how positive their attitudes are.

    So the ability to turn your negatives into positives is one thing that will set you apart from others. And I, like you, have had a share of rough times. And many people ask me, Did I ever want to quit? Well, the answer is No! On the next page, I will give you an example of Business Judo® and what I did with ReNet to turn it around during one of my most challenging times. I will explain how I flipped a negative situation into a positive and created a game-changing financial system in the process, and I did that with Business Judo® magic!

    The Real Magic is Flipping the Situation

    I call this technique Business Judo® magic, as it’s the real magic in Business Judo®, and that's when we flip something from being our idea to someone else believing it is their idea instead. So not telling, not even an agreement with them; you get an idea and agreement from them. So let me explain it this way
