CHAPTER ONE
MOTIVATION, GOAL SETTING AND TIME MANAGEMENT
What is your motivation for returning to school?
Learning objectives: To state the goals you want to achieve by undertaking this particular course.
What are your reasons and motivations for returning to learning?
Whatever your reasons, this course is clearly a return to learning for you. You are therefore more than likely already very committed to doing the course, and are aware of the time, energy and effort you will need to put into it if you are to achieve your target results. Therefore, it is important to understand how you can turn your wish to achieve real results. Perhaps more importantly, you need to know how you can sustain your efforts, even during those times when you would much rather be doing something else.
Note: Your goals will be the driving force that will transform your intentions or motivations into the actions and behaviors that achieve these goals.
Following any course of study is not always an easy task. In fact, there may well be times when you wonder what possessed you to start in the first place. You may even feel like walking away from it all. But if you have in place good coping mechanisms and study behaviors, they will see you through the rough times until your enthusiasm returns.
This study guide will make it easier for you to succeed in completing the course as well as enjoy the learning process. It introduces you to a range of tips and methods geared toward developing your skills, techniques and strategies to make better use of your time, source, select and critically evaluate information relevant to your study, and apply what you have learned in a variety of ways and contexts. This study guide will also enable you to critically evaluate the sources in light of all the information you have and make a balanced or informed judgment/argument.
A strong motivation is the first most important step on the road to success. By actively developing good study skills and learning strategies, you will keep your motivation high and achieve your goals much more easily and more efficiently.
Learning objectives: See the links between positive thinking and success. Develop and keep up a positive attitude by following a task or goal reward achievement system. Distinguish between long-term, medium-term, and short-term goals, and apply these in a practical way.
Achieve Your Goals: Link between Positive Thinking and Success
Get an attitude: success is not just about hard work; it is also about your attitude to your studies and believe in your ability to succeed.
Believing in you is the first step in maintaining your commitment and effort. Thinking positively increases your confidence, makes studying easier, and increases your chances of success. Believe in yourself, and in your ability to achieve your goals. No one is forcing you yourself
