    Dear Daughter - Suzanne Jump

    Introduction

Some seasons in life grip your heart.  I found myself in such a season a few years back.  That time in my life the days were long and hard.  I felt as if I had wandered out onto quicksand and the more I fought, the deeper I sunk.  I was just plain old stuck.  Every day was like ground hog day.  Just to go to bed and get up and do it all over again.  Doubt and fear overwhelmed me.  I could see no way out.

I knew Jesus had come so that I might have abundant life but all I saw behind me was lack and all I saw before me was loss.  I HAD to make a change – I was desperate. I began to search my bible and wrote down every verse I could find about fear.  I dug out every treasure.  Turns out, God does not want us to be in fear.  I read it on the page but wanted to learn how to make it real to me.

As I read, it was as if God was saying to me Suzanne, do not fear...I am with you...you shall overcome...I will help you.  His words jumped off the page as if written directly to me.  I began to personalize the word by placing my own name in each verse.  This set it as truth FOR ME in my mind and my heart.  I KNEW God meant these words and I wanted to make it my truth.  I wanted to think God thoughts of life and abundance rather than my own of fear and lack.

In time, I searched out God’s view on different topics.  As I wrote down what I was learning, I began each page with Dear Suzanne.  I began to see God’s word as His love letter to me.  What had started as a dry season became such a rich and full season of leaning in and listening to God’s heart through His word.  I found His heart for me as one of encouragement and restoration.  I found deeper relationship and intimacy.  I found something uncommon.

This is how Dear Daughter came about.  I found deeper intimacy with God, and I learned that His Word strengthens me in a way that the world cannot.  It is an inside job.  Peace and strength on the inside regardless of what is happening on the outside.  I also learned that each new discovery about God came with an invitation to experience Him from that perspective.  When I needed healing, He came as the Healer.  When I needed restoring, He came as the Restoration.  When I needed stillness, He came as Peace.

I learned that whatever God has His finger on in your life seems to be the very thing that He is ready to take you through.  I have a hunch He’s ready to bring you through some things now or you would not be holding this book.  I promise that He can bring you through, friend, and He can be trusted.  I encourage you to use this devotion and journal to go on a journey with God.  No matter where you are in your faith.  This is a real invitation to find something uncommon.
