About the Author
Word of Caution
Exercise sound judgment when implementing the strategies presented in this book. Your safety should always be your number one priority, and you should comply with all current laws and regulations.
The strategies I describe may not work for everyone. Remember, you are the one in control of your actions, and it is up to you to decide what is best for your unique circumstances. The information in Double Your Time is based on personal opinions, expertise, and experiences and may not be applicable to your situation. This book contains a collection of tips, tricks, and principles that have worked for me in different scenarios, including corporate-office, entrepreneurial, and parental settings.
The aim of this book is not to make you feel guilty or resentful about what you are not able to accomplish but rather to provide practical solutions to help you reach your goals more efficiently. Prioritize what is most important to you and align your actions with your values and aspirations.
Remember, increasing productivity is only useful if it helps you achieve your goals and create value. Use the information presented in this book to get tasks done faster so that you can have more time to enjoy the things that matter most to you.
Creating Time
Do you dream of having more time in the day to check off all the items on your to-do list? If so, I have some great news for you. I have developed a set of methods that have allowed me to double or even triple my productivity. That’s right. I can get more done in one hour than most people would get done in one day. And now I want to share my secrets with you.
Over the years, I have experimented with various techniques to reach my objectives, and I am confident that the strategies outlined in this book will help you do the same. I decided to write this book to let others know about the methods available to them.
Numerous studies have shown that chronic multitaskers are not efficient, and that the brain’s ability to focus decreases over time. One article in McGraw Hill Higher Education states, Stanford University researcher Clifford Nass found that even when chronic multitaskers focused on a single task, they were less efficient. Nass concluded that over time, frequent multitasking actually changes the way the brain functions, leading to decreased productivity even when focused.
¹ The article goes on to list many downsides to multitasking: it diminishes people’s focus, slows them down, makes them rude, causes them to make mistakes, cuts their flow, and could be bad for the brain.
This study looked at people multitasking with their brains. Your brain can’t do more than one task at a time, even if you might be able to switch quickly. For example, you might think that you are following a movie quite well while scrolling through Facebook, but you are simply switching attention.
But what if you were to combine a physical activity with a mental activity? That way, you would make use of your mind and your body instead of engaging your brain twice. Then you might just be able to complete many more tasks. For example, you could go through email while walking on a treadmill. That is the secret to multitasking the right way: combining a mindless, physical task with an intellectual pursuit.
You may be skeptical about the claim that you can double your time. Time is a finite resource that cannot be bent. However, if you can do two tasks at the same time, you are maximizing your time and getting more done. If you are doing rote activities, you might feel that you are wasting your time, but if you get two important tasks done simultaneously, you are creating more time.
I wrote this book to share my experiences and insights, with the hope that it will help you reach your goals and increase your productivity. So, let’s get started and learn how to make the most of the time we have!
