ou may be like me. That would mean having a fear of talking to people. Have you had an experience where you were in front of a group of people with your palms sweaty, your heart beating really fast, the audience staring at you waiting for you to talk, and the words just won't come out of your mouth? I am sure that you are aware by now that many people have some kind of fear of speaking in front of others or not knowing what to say in front of others.
This was my journey from fear and anxiety of speaking to others and in front of others when I was in kindergarten. I was one of those smaller kids that people picked on. You can only imagine what it was like for a small Asian kid in a white-dominated school. Kids can be quite mean to each other around that age, picking their friends and pushing around other smaller kids to make themselves seem stronger. So, I was in that environment, and I developed fears and anxiety. You never know what you could say that would cause people to make fun of you and laugh at you. Every day was a nightmare for me during that time.
Moments that I was in school from Kindergarten to High School and College were very challenging. Every time, the same thing: Sweaty palms, fast heartbeats, and the heavy urge to want to get out of sight as soon as possible.
Now, fast forward to 2010, having done much meditation to take the edge off of the anxiety, I was still having challenges communicating my ideas to people. Can you imagine trying to get people to see your point of view when you have been introverted for most of your life? My Sifu - Dr. Robert Chu (teacher of Wing Chun Kung Fu) suggested that I start to teach Qi Gong (Chinese Energetic medicine) to help with getting over those fears. I started teaching at Five Branches University. That was my first position and role as an official teacher and getting paid for it. There I was in front of students teaching a very familiar topic.
Still, the fear was there. It resulted in a little anxiety, and I needed a solution. The answer came one day when my Sifu Dr. Robert Chu emailed me something about an Introduction to NLP in the San Jose, CA area. He said that one way that I can become a better communicator was by studying the concepts of NLP. (NLP is the study of Successful people and how they communicate.) I decided that I would get over this fear and somehow become influential, so I registered to take the class, which was a 3-day intensive.
During the Intro NLP class, I learned a lot of things about communication that was never talked about or addressed in school. How we process and absorb information
