The Road Poetry Book - Maria Clary

    Acropolis of Glass

I want to be able to forget myself

I have blood and sweat into this process

I smell this incense all around me

    I see a beautiful tree

    This forgiveness is doable

    The aroma stops

The rocks are more than just a block

The key that everyone hold unlocks

    To a new horizon

Where the plain is even and full

You feel like you are flying

    You feel understood

You are secure now in this acropolis of glass

You don’t need to keep trying look your feet are on the grass

For you have surpassed yourself and given full redemption

    ––––––––

    Eucharist

    I sit in silence

I listen to the choir sing

    I feel your presence

    I want to start crying

    Longing to have you ringing

Inside of me with your essence

    I smell the incense

I just want to stay here

I go up to the altar

    I dress to impress

But that don’t matter with a veil in my hair

I am only here for you Lord

I hold your blood and body in hand with honor

I open my mouth and taste heaven

It could be no sweeter than honey

I go to kneel back down

And pray and feel God in my heart

I hope this day never ends!

    Anne Frank

    The snow starts to fall

After I die they build a wall

    I want to go home

    Where I can roam

    The soup is cold again

I have the worst stomach pain

I try to always have hope

    I will cope

Nazis are everywhere telling us what to do

They are pure evil even the doctor laughs at our hue

Peter was the one I talked too, and I may say I loved

    We watched the doves

I work hard in the camp

    It gets so damp

The nights are short the dog's bark

I miss going to the beach and the park
