About this ebook
"
The days of wonder and delight
Are fading in the rearview mirror
The world is not as bright
As it once appeared to be
The innocence of childhood
Is lost in the maze of growing up
The simple joys of playing good
Are replaced by shades of gray
The dreams of flying to the stars
Are grounded by the weight of reality
The magical embar
Is dimmed by the glare of facts
The childhood innocence is gone
But not forgotten in the heart
"
It's crazy how much we change throughout our lives. How many people we are. How many people we become. A child who was afraid of their parents to an adolescent who realized their parents were once children who had their own lives before us. A teenager, practically afraid to touch a boy, to an adult who tongue kisses and does other things with boys. A person we never thought we would ever be, to staring at the mirror realizing you are that person. We shapeshift so many times throughout our lives without thinking about it. It's crazy.
I used to think about my younger self wondering if she would be proud of the things I've done and accomplished, but it's useless thoughts. She isn't me anymore. She didn't live the experiences I have. She doesn't have the insight I have. She doesn't know the world like I do. And that's the beauty of life. We all change in this circle of life and we will continue to change until we are gone.
I accept these changes now.

Champagne and Cherries (And Lots of Codeine) - A.E. KALLI
R.I.P Dad
CONTENTS
For you I lay the path down
The sonnet of my heart
For who I am and who I will become
Devastated
Your face swells
Cheeks puffed out like a squirrel
With a mouthful of acorns
You lay on the cloud of pillows
Staring at the spinning fan
That mocks your tears
The world has gone gray outside
And is arching its way indoors
Your bed feels hard
Life is hard
You thought you could trust your thoughts
You thought you could trust your bed
You thought you could trust
But the springs of the mattress
Digging into your back
Reminds you
The monsters you thought you drove away
Have crept their way back in
Lost in the big city with enormous cranes
I fold paper cranes to fly away from
The sea creatures that surround me
Do you dare to dream
They ask
Close your eyes and dream
They say
Because you will never escape this city
But I can taste the silver spoon in my mouth
It’s filled with wine-red cherries
Dripping with three-hundred dollar Cristal
The delicacy of caviar tenderly caressing my greedy lips
As I force fistfuls of oysters down my throat
Queen Victoria cake dangles in front of me
Swinging back and forth like a string of yarn
It hypnotizes the tempted cat onto her tippy-toes
She pounces
But her eyes open as she reaches out to grab
But all that stares back is the empty charcoal city
You will never escape
It chants
The golden life you fancy
Was not meant for you
The aspen scratches against my window
Lowering its branches
So the sad sister can climb in
She lies besides me
Tired and teary-eyed
She scans my face looking for a reason
To capture me in her embrace
She wraps her palms around me
Suddenly I am engulfed in a coat of sorrow
This khaki-color coat wraps me in its chokehold
I cry for her to let go
She squeezes harder
The coat morphs into a straitjacket that rips
Right through my wrought-iron chest
The more I howl
The tighter the chokehold
Why
I beg
Why me
The sad sister flashes her conniving grin
Her hasty feet skip and never turns back
She shrinks back into the darkness
A chameleon of the night
I remain plunged in the air
Days turn to months
Until years have seeped and settled on my lap
And I am still written with despair
A disturbed spirit wanders the night
Seeking solace, seeking light
But finding only darkness and despair
Trapped in a cycle of pain and fear
A disturbed spirit cries out in vain
Hoping for mercy, hoping for change
But hearing only silence and scorn
Doomed to repeat the mistakes of before
A disturbed spirit longs for release
Dreaming of peace, dreaming of ease
But facing
