I dedicate this book, Business Corner: What’s  Really Needed to Survive the Entrepreneurial  Fight, to my Uncle Latif. He was always in my  corner. Growing up as a kid, I didn't recognize   this. He was the only one of my family members   that kept a consistent job. He was the first  person I saw in my family tell their wife she   didn't have to work. He worked while she stayed   home. I remember that she didn't know how to   cook, so he bought her cookbooks, lots of baking  dishes, and pots and pans for her to experiment   and learn how to take care of the family.

It was at his house that I first saw someone have   a washer and dryer in their home. It was at his  house when I was able to go and sleep in a bed   on my own as opposed to on a couch or sharing   a bed with any one of my cousins or siblings.

This was always special. He was there during one   of my life’s most important events. If you know  my story, then you know when I was young, I  turned to the streets to make money. At 14  years old, I got shot. My grandmother, who had  custody of me wasn't around; she was in South   Carolina at her dad's funeral. I stayed with Uncle   Latif the entire time.

He cared for me, and made sure I was good, and   that I was safe. He never once had a  conversation where he was judging me and  saying you have to get your life together. He   understood I had to do what I had to do. Instead,   he’d say, Be careful nephew. You gotta watch  yourself out there nephew. Knowing where he   had come from being released from jail six years  prior, he understood. He saw where I was going   and I didn't stop after that. I got into selling  drugs a lot more after I had recovered. Not one  time did he ever tell me anything negative, or  cursed me for doing so.

He always provided support. His house was the  house I was able to go to and not be in the place  where I did my dirt. His house is where I was able   to go and still feel safe, comfortable, leave my  money on the table, and not worry about  nobody stealing it. He still provided me with  everything
