From Death to Life - April McCamery
Untouchable
Who is he?
Does he know
He risks to speak
With an untouchable?
Everyone keeps their distance,
And looks the opposite way,
Believing if their eyes touch me,
Then they’ll become an untouchable too.
But he touched me with his eyes
Which spoke to my spirit.
I’m crowned Wicked,
And smothered by sin.
The arrow of hatred pierced my flesh.
I wear layers of bitterness
While chasing my last breath.
My face reflects everyone’s frowns.
I carry these heavy feet, leaving footprints in distress.
My shadow treads behind me, on the ground.
One-third of what’s left in my heart still leaks.
Who is he that’s acting so nice to me?
Why does he pretend like he cares?
How could he stretch his hand toward me?
Why doesn’t he show any fear?
Does he know the life that I live?
Does he know the seeds that I’ve sowed?
Does he even know half of the things I did?
Does he know, that he doesn’t know?
Who is he?
Can’t he see
I am worse than a disease?
Please, you don’t want to get burned by me.
Untouchable.
Incurable.
I have poisoned people’s minds with lies,
I have blinded love in even married men’s eyes,
I have taken things that weren’t mine,
Yet here he is walking by my side.
I’ve drowned people’s eyes with tears,
I’ve given the rearview to all my friends,
I’ve denounced the ways of the righteous,
But he acts like I never committed any sins.
What is this love that he shows toward me?
Why does he sit and eat with me?
How can he even speak to me?
I don’t deserve any pity.
I waited for the acting to fade.
I waited for him to revile my name.
I waited for him to walk away.
He’ll be gone, like everyone else, any day.
If he always knew my name,
Why didn’t he keep his distance,
And leave me like an unwanted item?
Who is he?
What makes him so different?
His eyes sang to me.
To others, he can’t be compared.
He lets me breathe his air.
Inhale salvation,
Exhale damnation.
Who is he?
What does he want with me?
Where is he from?
How can he love me?
Why reach me?
Covered
I thought love greeted me.
I began my life in harmony.
Unity danced in the atmosphere.
Words of love were music to my ears.
Then hate stabbed me
In between my shoulder blades.
Where is love?
Only God knows.
You asked, Are you okay?
I said, I’m fine.
You performed affection
With a disfigured heart.
Your mouth drizzled promises
That you stumbled on.
You conned me with your smiling face,
As you left scars down my back.
"There’s no more room on my back,
But I’ll roll up my sleeve and give you my arm."
Are you okay?
"I’m
