For the child of God, understanding how to appropriate God’s promises is based on the knowledge of God’s word. When an individual is a newly born-again believer in Christ Jesus, he or she must learn the kingdom of God and how it works; this takes time, and a disciple of Christ must become diligent as to learn and discover the benefits of the kingdom of God. The first days (three) of salvation were like heaven on earth in my own experience. His presence was so strong it was like fluttering wings of liquid love, blowing waves on me. God removed a ton of guilt and sin; I was born-again. However, after some time passed, I didn’t feel that presence like before; and being young in the Lord, I didn’t quite understand. Those who were older in Christ Jesus encouraged me and would say, It’s not about feeling. It’s about faith. The problem with that statement is I was not mature enough, in the Lord, to know what faith is.

I understood my answer was in searching the scriptures as hid treasure. Let’s look at the parable of Jesus in Matthew 13:45–46:

A gain, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all he had and bought it. (KJV)

The word disciple means to be a devout follower, so love is the central theme of God’s kingdom. I began to see I had to appropriate God’s promises for myself. I would come across scriptures like in Psalm 68:19, which spoke of daily benefits, yet that was not a reality in my life. The thing that kept ringing in my heart was what Jesus would say to individuals. According to your faith, be it unto you. Faith showed me it had more to do with me than with God Almighty.

This book is about principles and information, giving insight into the kingdom of God to live a victorious Christian life here on earth. Matthew 6:25–34 provides us with insight into the heart of the Father:

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you, by taking thought, can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not; neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? Or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (KJV)

He wants us, his children, to completely rest in him. The epistles give us the knowledge on how to achieve this through the principles in the Word of God. This book will give the reader concrete directions from God’s Word to apply to their daily lives.

    Chapter 1

In 2008, I was riding high. I had my jazz or top 40 bands, and we were doing gigs at all the high in Phoenix, Arizona, restaurants. Also, we were booking corporate gigs and weddings, even cities were booking us for their summer events; we were doing well. The reason I am telling this story is that this is where God begins to deal with me coming home. You see, a few years earlier, I had failed in ministry—so much so I threw caution to the wind and told myself I had had enough; it’s not working. I was traveling in ministry nationally and had some successes, but it seemed like I was always struggling to get bookings, finances, etc. Things began to wane, and eventually, all my ministry efforts went flat.

I took matters into my hand, started performing secular music, formed a band, and started doing well. I never wanted to be a recording artist; it was always about the music and vibe on stage, creativity at its highest form. So getting back to 2008, the Lord started dealing with me, but I enjoyed my lifestyle. My band played at a high-end restaurant in Chandler, Arizona, where we had a standing gig every Saturday night. At the end of the second set, I went on break and sat alone. While sitting out there, the Lord started speaking to me about getting back to ministry and calling. I was conflicted; in my heart, I did want to serve the Lord fully, but I was doing well and living my dream. I prayed a simple prayer. Lord if you can get me out of this, I will serve you and get back to the will of God.

While still sitting outside, a stretch limousine pulled up, the driver got out, and another gentleman began to, what it appeared as, prepping for someone. A woman came out of the restaurant, and I could tell she was wealthy—a woman of means; she sat down next to me and never said a word. It was not unusual for this restaurant, as many well-to-do patrons would frequent this establishment. Suddenly, this woman said to me, How do you know when God is speaking to you, and what do you do about it? Naturally, I was stunned. She paused, looked at me, and said, Faith, act on God’s word. She got up, the driver opened the door for her, and she drove off. Immediately I knew those two men and women were angels. I knew it in my spirit. The scripture says in Hebrews
