About this ebook

The Unsaid: Thoughts of a Quiet Man is poetry in a musical format. The title describes the author's personality and speaks volumes about his narrative, creativity, and thought process, giving insight into the mind of a musician and the different stages of conception. Ideas, verses, choruses and bridges, it's all on display for the reader to follow. The author bares his soul on songs like "Madonna," a heartfelt plea from one lover to another. They are songs here everyone can relate to and find comfort in, as well as songs that are thought-provoking like "Bonnie," a love song that's secretly not a love song. These are genuinely brilliant lyrics that can be enjoyed whether written or recorded. Some songs contained in this book were written for other artists to record and perform.

    Preface

The Unsaid is a collection of written songs about thoughts and insights derived from real life experiences. While unique, these are also the state of the many idiosyncratic realities of which any reader can relate.

Ideas and thoughts leading to something totally unexpected can be magical. It’s amazing to conceive an idea and watch it evolve from a thought, whether it be one word or a complete sentence that transitions into a body of work.

Most of these songs are unreleased and a few are incomplete; however, I won’t rule out releasing any of the songs contained in this book, which details my thought process and how each song came to be. Each part is a representation of a separate album.

Over the years spent writing numerous songs, I have released three independent albums. The first is titled Substance, the second Rebel Rap, and the third Silence Equals Nothing, with my band The Devil’s Playground. The process of writing a song for me is like raising a child; I know from experience being the father of a teenager. It’s not always easy and can be fraught with complications but it’s always rewarding. In the end, it’s a labor of love that I am very passionate about.

If you’ve inspired me to pen a song, you’ve had a profound effect on me.

    Thank you.

    Thoughts of a Quiet Man

Initially putting myself in the mind-set of an elder witnessing the world transform through different periods of time; eventually, I changed the whole concept. I thought it would be more meaningful to pay homage to those that came before us, i.e., our parents and grandparents and the legacies they left behind.

I wanted their struggles, trials, and tribulations to resonate, documenting the process of aging, the things we experience as we grow and mature, and the lasting impressions we leave behind.

    Age (Today and Tomorrow)

Once a man, twice a child

    you and I

    live and die.

    Age’s not celebrated

    it’s medicated, isolated

    left alone

    to die alone.

    To my elders celebrating life

    that’s nice

    living twice

    finding peace

    I took your advice.

    What you manifest is ancient

    fitting for the present

    this is your space

    your place

I promise to fill it with grace

    before I finish this race.

    Your sacrifices weighs heavy

    your story

    your history

    past and present

    is evident.

    Yesterday’s gone

    today’s undone

    what’s tomorrow’s outcome?

    Don’t worry

    I’ll share your story

    your glory

    dispel what’s untrue

    about your to-do

I give thanks for those before and after you.

    Generation after generation

    you’re an institution

    of inspiration.

Securing our future with the knowledge you instill within ’em.

    Giving yourself wholeheartedly

    with so much responsibility

    it’s a sacrifice

    with a beautiful price.

    You plant the seeds

    that grow to be

    people like you and me.

    Shaping the destiny of others

    focusing on what matters.

    Yesterday’s gone

    today’s undone

    what’s tomorrow’s outcome?

    Bridge:

    I remember when

    nothing was a trend.

    Now the tables turn

for the past, we yearn . . .

    Yesterday’s gone

    today’s undone

    what’s tomorrow’s outcome.

Animal kingdom is very personal and memorable. It details the demise of my marriage. After years, we were literally falling apart in the worst way possible, and it didn’t help that we had a child. I kept our son out of the story but documented our turbulent times in a way that was out of the ordinary.

I compared our behaviors toward each other to animals. We argued constantly, always in disagreement, and completely hopeless about a future together.

    Animal Kingdom

    Tell me a story

    paint me a picture

    sweet like liquor

    end it with a whisper.

    Tell me a story

    paint me a picture

    bitter like liquor

    end it with a whisper.

    No, hide and seek

    we don’t speak

    everything out your beaks

    about my flaws

    forcing me to pause

    reevaluating what was.

    For peace sake

I had to flee and escape.

    Far away

    like a wounded prey.

    I thought I was a beast

    beating my chest

    like a guerrilla

    but you a savage creature

    with multiple personalities.

    I can’t get with you

    and your zoo

    and what you spew

this is my point of view

    damned if I do

    damned if I don’t

    damned if I do

    damned if I don’t.

    Tell me a story

    paint me a picture

    sweet like liquor

    end it with a whisper.

    Tell me a story

    paint me a picture

    bitter like liquor

    end it with a whisper.

    King of the jungle

    afraid to rumble and battle

I’d rather face a herd of cattle

than listen to you squeal like a pig about my bad habits

your words jump at me like a rabbit

    creating havoc.

    Crying like a whale

telling me I move like a snail

    with you, I’m in jail

    I need bail

    I can’t sail.

I’m ready to fly like birds and build my nest

    where I can rest

    without your stress.

I remember us playing like cubs laughing like hyenas

now we in two different arenas.

    I buzz like a bee

    it’s a pity you can’t see.

    Tell me a story

    paint me a picture

    sweet like liquor

    end it with a whisper.

    Tell me a story

    paint me a picture

    bitter like liquor

    end it with a whisper.

    What can I say

    get you to stay

    get you to play

    say it ain’t so, no?

In another time, in another place

    in another space

    I’ll see your face.

    What can I say

    get you to stay

    get you to play

    say it ain’t so, no?

This is the end of the show?

    What can I say

    get you to stay

    get you to play

    say it ain’t so, no?

This is the end of the show?

In the songs I collaborate on, I always felt the need to reinterpret in my own special way. I’m not sure if it’s
