I would like to start off by saying thank you to the powers that be for guiding me to begin to create and have a positive effect on others. Without the gifts given to me and also those acquired by life experience, along with the drive for positivity, I would never have nearly as much magic to offer others as I do.
For all the ways and means I have become the magical person I am today with much future potential, I am forever grateful. Everything from a beautiful childhood, to an immersive coming of age, to now a wonderful adult life with my favorite guy, I have a lot to be thankful for. Without these positive outside influences, my imagination would not roam as wild as it does.
I contribute most of the creation that is Magic Mo to Brucey and my parents. A lot of wisdom is to be had within my inner circle of family and friends, but Brucey and my parents will always and forever be in the forefront of the creation that is me. They continue to influence the person I am today and the person I will be in the future. Should you have any problems with the person I am or will possibly become, you can so totally blame them!
I could write an entire book about all the magical people in my world. What they mean and how much appreciation I have for them is important. My hope is that they all know who they are and always have the knowledge that I am out there thanking them constantly. To all who have given me pixie dust and continue to do so, I really can’t say thank you enough. Thanks for the magic you create all around you and allowing me to be one of the lucky ones to be deserving of your love, time, and wisdom.
An Introduction to the Magic
My hope and wish is that every woman reading this book gets inspired, curious, and motivated, the goal being this encourages you to think about all the things in our lives that happen to us and around us. What do these experiences mean? These happenings help to scope who we become and shape how we think and feel. I think a lot of times, we don’t want to look within our grasp what is actually happening. There are many reasons for these feelings. It could be that we feel overwhelmed and cannot focus, or we can’t deeply digest the scenario as it is happening. However, I feel the biggest reason we shy away from looking within is because it is regarding situations and memories that are unpleasant. To me, these unpleasant experiences help to set the stage for some of our most impactful discoveries.
Having the ability to find the magic in everything big and small is an art. This does not happen overnight. In fact, the discovery of our true inner magic is a never-ending journey, a journey I want every woman to enjoy. I personally define magic as the positive takeaway you have about yourself, others, and situations that arise.
As for me, during my reflective time-outs, I sometimes like to just stop and look around. I do this mostly when I fall into what I call "the trap of grrr!" The trap of grrr is what I view as a moment when we are mad and basically feel like we just hate everything. So for me, in these moments, I either find comfort in seeing the good in others or seeing someone who can use having their spirits lifted up. It’s when you start to focus on lifting up someone else’s spirits that your problems seem to magically vanish. That is a Mo Therapy
promise!
I think we all want to believe magic is real. Well…it is! Everyone has a different kind of magic that is unique and important to be shared. Sharing our magic is so important for that reason that it is unique. Otherwise, everyone would be the same with nothing special to bring to the table with others.
The magic of the discovery is the heart and soul of this book. Let’s all enjoy finding the magic in discovering something new about ourselves, family, friends, and experiences each day. I hope after reading this book, it is an awakening to realize your own magic along with the magic of others around you. With magic comes strength. This strength is what drives us to continue the discovery.
Realizing the strengths you already have within yourself is magical in and of itself. In the book, I talk a lot about my love for Disney, decoration, cooking, socializing, etc. These things are not just hobbies or pastimes. These character creations are where our strength not only begins but serves as a foundation to build upon for further creativity and growth. It’s these positive experiences that keep me "Mo-tivated. I try to
plus it" every day, as Walt Disney would say. My wish for anyone reading this is that you can find strength and motivation in anything and everything that lifts you up and inspires you to go on and create some magic!
The Magic of Being Memorable
Welcome! I am Maureen, also known as Magic Mo, and I am ready to take a journey together with you. This journey is all about the past, present, and future. Although the future we cannot predict, we can start to piece some of it together from our past and our present. Everything in our lives that we have experienced was because we were meant to. Everything we’ve seen and done, has it all been pleasant? A thousand gallons of no! However, whether it was a happy or sad experience, we were in fact meant to have it. These pieces help to put together the puzzle we continue to work on completing each and every day. When a new experience in our lives happens, it’s a new color added to our puzzle. The journey of adding pieces to this puzzle will never be completed. We shouldn’t want it to be. The journey of the discovery of ourselves makes even what’s thought to be impossible wishes come true.
I would love to say this is one of those books that starts out with Once upon a time, there was a princess named Maureen.
Sadly, this is not one of those books. However, there is a lot of magic and pixie dust to be found throughout this journey. I think as children, we all want to believe there is magic to be found in everything and all of our wishes come true. As we get older, life, however, tends to show us this is not always the case. With that being said, it is a tough pill to swallow no matter how old or wise we become. The only thing I feel we have in our control is our ability to keep dreaming, practicing, and sharing the magic in our own way.
Now, how does one define magic? Well, this is something that is absolutely up for interpretation. As for me, I believe it is definitely based on the individual. It’s up to each of us to find our own magic. When I say magic, I am talking about our happy and positive traits, qualities, and overall being. My magic is a thousand gallons wrapped around a good personality and creativity. This comes along with a side of a big heart and understanding of people. Showcasing the person you want the world to see is where the magic lies. In addition, it resides in the underlying realization that you know exactly who you are and what you are about. Nail, head, hit, and I am dropping the mic—oh, snap!
Tapping into your magic sometimes takes time and a deeper realization of your own strengths. One of my strengths that I like to use a lot is a sarcastic sense of humor. People tend to respond positively to this because it shows the lighthearted side of me and also that I understand people and situations. A lot of times, what this also does is not only draw people to me but make people trust and remember me. It seems like such a small thing, but good, fun, and upbeat conversation can be a game changer for anyone’s day. Anyone who can make me laugh and hold a good conversation has saved many of days for me.
Now, I have to give some credit for my magic of sarcastic humor to both my past and my present influences. I very much grew up with this kind of humor mostly from my father. He is very much a hoot and a half! Since then, I have developed this humor to make it my own brand of magic. Today as an adult, I have quite a few friends who also have this type of magic, and my favorite one is Brucey. He’s not only my partner in crime for life but my best friend. As cheesy as it sounds, when they say laughter is the best medicine, I believe there to be some real truth to that.
I find sometimes being memorable is about creating a special relationship with someone that no one else can duplicate. It shows you understand their thoughts, what buttons to push, and which ones to tread lightly with. As for myself, I have made many relationships throughout my life with people that all have very different interests. Growing up, I was very much into athletic activities, everything from softball, swimming, dance, karate, gymnastics, track, and then some. As a young girl, these gave me the opportunity to relate to a lot of people with these different interests. Fast forward to high school, I became very much involved with the drumline and worked very hard to become a percussionist. This did not come easy.
Being musically inclined was not in my makeup. My family pretty much exists of athletes, and so music for me was uncharted territory. What I loved in addition to creating music was meeting and forming relationships with a whole new world of people. There were other athletes also in the band who helped to make me feel at home in the world of music. I feel being a part of different groups and walks of life helps to expand how we think and create. With that being said, it opens up avenues to a lot not just for our own selves but what tools we now have in our arsenal to offer others. Expansion beyond the familiar definitely helps to create relatability and, of course, being memorable.
One memorable moment from my freshman year of high school I will share with you gladly as it puts the humor and memorable together. This moment took place at my freshman year’s marching band awards. At this particular event, there was an award given out for the most improved in percussion. Shocker of the century, it was awarded to me. It was one of my proudest moments, not because I got an award but all my hard work did prove itself. Now comments were then made about how I must have sucked before.
Even though I didn’t say anything at the time, I did have my sarcastic comeback all ready to go. If you are dying to know what the comeback would have been, I wanted to say, Well, they are saying I don’t suck now, but they said nothing about you.
Humor, whether spoken or not, can work in your favor in almost all situations really. I feel even if I don’t express it out loud, I still find something to laugh about to keep me calm, cool, and collected. When I do that, I feel I am more at ease and true to myself. That is what I want the takeaway to be for people. If people are thinking about the real me, that is how I stay memorable. When we stay true to ourselves, it flows out just naturally. It’s when we get nervous or scared that we become someone else, so I try to find anything laughable inside to keep that from happening. We want people to think of us as we truly are. This, in my opinion, is nothing short of magical.
Finding the way to common ground is key to being memorable. Something I’ve learned in life is that we all can relate to anyone if we take the time and effort to look for it. Many times, we are easily able to relate to someone because of struggle. I do find many times, people vent or complain about their woes, and others want to compete in that department. That is a competition I personally don’t want to be in. Being someone out to have the most to complain about is not what makes you memorable. When someone does share frustrations with me, I like to do two things. The first is to be sympathetic; that is always appreciated and goes further that one would think. Second, I like to then find common ground; I like to share something I have been going through but still
