About this ebook

The Chronicles of Customer Service is a completion of short stories about the crazy things that have happened to me when I worked in customer service while others are based on events I have witnessed. My short stories help provide a bit more of the things that happen in customer service from the viewpoint of the worker.

Don’t you hate it when you go above and beyond for a customer? So working at a maintenance call center is all right annoying when you get someone yelling at you for a door that came off the hinges and needed to be fixed ASAP. And then the technician saying or doing something so stupid is always annoying. Anyway, once in a while, we have to call the higher-ups for a hotel stay on behalf of a resident. Which honestly I hated because, man, it scares me; but for my luck, I had to do that for someone. I called five people twice, was rejected by one until I got the seventh person. He approved the hotel stay but asked to tell the resident to save all the receipts, and she’d get reimbursed for every hotel night up to at least $150. She was going to get her money back, and on top of that, the property manager asked me to call the technician and let him know that he will get paid whatever amount of money he needs to fix the AC but to fix it by tomorrow. The technician was completely fine with that since he had the part already. I understood as well that she didn’t want her grandchild in the heat. And the technician cleared the early slots in order to take care of her first. I was so happy to call her to give her the news. I called her up, and I told her everything about the hotel, what I had done, and how the technician was going to clear a spot for her to get it fixed tomorrow.

And she says, Did you guys ever bother to ask if I have $150 to spend?

I assured her that she would get her money back and that I was sure she could find something for that price for the night since it was her and three others. What she said next made my blood boil.

She turned to her daughter that was next to her and said, Well, I’m going to have to sell my ass to get that money.

I wanted to say so much. She was going to get her $150 back, and it would only be for one night. But no, it was so much money that she had to say that comment. Now I understand some people will ask for money up front or a card but not every company can provide that besides only one night. I felt so proud for getting all this for her, only to have her say that comment. I guess not everyone has nice things to say.

    Someone Lose Some Teeth

I remember my first customer service job was at a famous fast-food restaurant. Being a cashier is never fun at all. I truly hated it, but it was my first job, and I needed to help my parents out.

I remember taking an order from an old couple that had ordered a sundae, and they shared it. What came from them was not something I was expecting. After they left, I had cleaned their area for the next customers. I went
