It’s hard work!

I started serving coffee at Starbucks 10 years ago. I was 57. My first day on the job, I was so exhausted and confused by the fancy coffee names, I wanted to quit. In fact, I thought about quitting at least 20 times those first months.

Every time, my manager convinced me to stay. Besides, my husband, Al, and I needed the money. And the health insurance.

Starbucks is nonstop. There’s always a line. Customers are in a hurry. They want their coffee just right. Every drink is handcrafted.

“Like that,” people will say, flashing some TikTok video with a crazy coffee combination. Doesn’t matter how long it takes, we make it.

There are bathrooms to clean, napkins to stock, messes to mop, food to warm up, drinks to pour. It never ends.
