It’s gloomy out. What will today bring? I am not sure. I hope something good. It seems that every day is the same— work, work, work and check the mail box, bills, bills, bills. When the hell will they stop coming?

Wishful thinking. I am not excited about much. I mean, I appreciate life. But is this what we ‘re here for just working and paying bills, sex, emotions, madness and fame? This is crazy. Do you ever wonder if there’s more to life then this? Well, I do. Damn! My mind is always taking me for a ride. Let’s not forget about the children. They’re always in in the midst of it all. OK. Stop thinking. I have to get ready for work. I wish I was the boss. Hell, I am the boss but I sure don’t feel like it. I have my own night club, my own clothing store and I am a mentor to a young missy named Sherry. Let’s not forget that I’m also a famous writer. So, hell, yeah, I have my work cut out for me. M y children are grown, but a needy family is still family and my friends keep me grounded. I don’t have too many of those and that’s the way I like it. Where is my blackpencil skirt? I can’t find it. I’m going to be late getting to the store. Let me call Monica so she can open. Shit, I need to organize my room. Stuff is everywhere. I have no time to keep things neat. I go from one job to the next, but I like my life busy. I have to be busy or I’ll stop moving. It feels like my life stops moving. OK, where are my keys? I got to go.

As I’m heading out, my cell phone rings and I look at it. Shit, it’s Lisa. Drama, damn. I don’t have time for this now. Money is calling me so I send her ass right to voice mail. I talk to the beep Lisa. I’ll catch you later, girl.

I jump in my R 350 Benz. This is my baby. I love this car. It holds everything I need. It takes me where I want to go. She’s black and smooth. I name all my cars my Mona Lisa ride.

Let me put my Noe CD on. As I try to get it to work, my phone rings again. It’s Sherry, the girl I mentor. She sounds upset. What’s wrong? She says she really needs to talk to me. It’s important. OK, I’m on my way to the store. I’ll call you when I get there, sweetie. OK, hold tight.

I always wanted to help someone in life because giving back feels so good and keeps you blessed. But be careful what you wish for. You might wish for a good man and when you get one, then you don’t want him. Wish for a house and get it and then realize it’s a lot of responsibility. Then you wish for kids. W ho does that! You get them and can’t waituntil they move the hell out. How funny is that shit? Hell, we’re never really happy.

Finally, I make it to work. Hey, girl, girl thanks for getting here before me. Wow! Is this the stuff I ordered. Damn! I didn’t know I ordered so much but this stuff is nice. It will sell fast. I keep the latest trends in my store. I am the fashion queen. I love clothes. My store is different because I sell stuff that you can’t find everywhere. I so love my store.

What’s my day look like, Monica? Did my jewelry and shoes come in today? I hope so. I have some ladies coming in for a showing. The phone rings. Hey, baby, how are you? Dinner tonight. Well, I have a full day today so let me get back to you, honey, but I will try to make it happen. OK, babe, have a nice day. Love you too. Later. That was my man. Our lives are so busy we don’t see each other much. But I love him dearly. He keeps me grounded. I wish we could spend more time together, but our lives are so demanding it’s hard. Sometimes I miss him so much but the show must go on.

Are you guys ever going get married, asks Monica? I hope one day when we both slow down. But if he asks, the answer is yes. I really love him. Any man who can keep up with me and make me smile! He’s the one. Hell, =sometimes I am very needy. I want what I want and that’s it. Shit, I work hard for what I have and I’ve come a long way. I deserve a good man and he’s it for me. You know what I mean, girl. They only come around one time so you have get them while they’re hot! You know what I mean. Yes, girl, I hear that. You need that in your life, someone who understands you. Damn! I have to call Sherry. She sounded upset and I want to find out what’s going on with her.

Monica can you please help these ladies for me. They’re coming in for the showing this morning, FYI they can be very picky so pray. You know what I mean they will work your last nerves. But they mean well and they spend well too; we both laugh. Girl you so crazy, no problem. I so love Monica, she someone I can always depend on; she my right hand around here, what will I do without her.

So I go into my office in the back of the store to make my call. Before I even start dialing my phone rings it’s her. I was just about to call you baby what’s the matter you sound so sad. What’s going on before she can get any of her words out she bust out crying. Where are you? I am at school in the girls bathroom can you go somewhere else to talk, hey I got a better idea get yourself together finish out your day in school. Then come to my store you hear. Wipe those tears pull it together Sherry. I did not teach you to be a punk; life is full of changes. So get used to it see you soon. Love you.

I know you might be saying why you are so hard. Because you have to be it is the way of life. If I baby her she will become weak you can’t be weak when you go through stuff. You have to stand strong and fight like hell to push your way to the top. Pray he will hear you; God hears all things so don’t sleep on him. He is and always will be the creator. Let me go help Monica with these ladies up front

Hey ladies, hey Ms. Stacy how are you fine and you I am OK. One of the ladies says girl you have some really lovely stuff this season. Why thanks Ms. Johnson I try to get what I know my customers will like. Are you ladies finding stuff OK over there? Yes child. Can you come over here to help me with this zipper sure.

There we go I really like this dress Stacy. I did not see a price on it. Really oh let me see well seeming that you always bless me with your business. I will let you get this for 60$ is that good for you. Really, I know this dress is worth more than that it’s very good quality. But 60$ is fine thanks for giving it to me for that price. Child, I did not have that much money on me today you know I went to the casino last night. If you know what I mean. Yes I do.

She is so funny; I love my older customers, they keep me going. The others bought stuff to. They were always happy with what they brought they come all the way from Bridgeport CT; now you know they like my store. And that’s all right with me. I always enjoy pleasing my customers. When you’re nice and can cut them a break, sometimes they appreciate that you know.

Let me put my flats on because I have to wear my heels tonight at the jazz club I own. We play live music; it’s very cozy and warm, I named it Sugars because it’s so sweet. It’s for the grown and sexy and we serve food too; it’s a place to forget all of your worries and just relax. The music is so soft and I work with a group great people that I trust. I don’t spend all my nights there. But I do have to show up to make sure things are OK. I’m so proud of myself doing what I love to do.

My Blackberry is ringing that’s my son line I wonder what he wants hey sweetie how are you doing how’s school. It is great I miss you ma, how is everything going with the business and stuff? Everything is great Taren what’s up with you beside school. Nothing really. Oh I am coming to see you soon so we can spend some time together. If that’s OK with you; well I was thinking of coming home for spring break he said. I am like OK that’s cool baby; do you need anything honey? No I am good ma, well nice hearing from you I will try to call you later.

As I hang up Sherry comes walking in my office. hey girl sit down what’s wrong. I think I might be pregnant. What, Sherry what do you mean? We talked about protecting yourself when it comes to sex, I can’t believe what I am hearing right now. What you think I should do Ms. Stacy? Child please. You just started school and you’re way too young. Damn Sherry, you’re too young for a child. Wow I need a drink. Does your mother know yet? Are you crazy! Excuse me I mean no Mam. I did not mean it that way, Ms. Stacy, I am sorry. She already know you don’t rise your voice with me. I am not the one. My mother will have a cow if she knew. No she won’t; I already had one for her. Well who is Mr. big stuff? Why? What you mean why? Is that a problem with you telling me who he is Sherry starts to cry, I mean really hard. Monica walks in the office and sees this and says is everything OK in here? Yes girl, Sherry and I are having a girly talk. It’s OK, do you need anything? No I got it. I gave her the drama look on her way out so she already know what it is. You see, me and Monica had our share of drama so it is all so familiar you know what I mean.

OK we are going to deal with this but we have to let your mother know; I know you don’t want to but she is your mother and I am not. Can I ask you a question : what do you want to do Sherry, it is your body; girl it’s like you said I am too young I have school to finish and beside he and I are not together at all, things just got out of hand. Well I guess so, you got that right baby girl. Hey I have to finish out my day here you go home now and I will call you OK alright I will thanks Ms. Stacy for always having my back. I am thinking it seem like somebody else had your back. Make sure you call me when you get in OK? Yeah I will do you need anything else before you go? Yeah what’s that chile? A hug. Oh get over here so I hugged her and she left.

Monica, don’t be looking at me like that I know these young folks get in so much shit; her mother going to hit the roof when she find out, dammit I am going to need a drink, hey are you coming down by the bar after we close. I will think about it because I am a little tired it was pretty busy today plus I might be having a visitor who oh really who the lucky guy you didn’t tell me you had a new man girl she laugh he is not my man his a friend. Excused me; well anyhow that’s good for you, at least somebody getting some, and we both laughed. Girl you so crazy; no, I am serious though.

Well I guess we are closed for the day we did well though and that’s always great Monica I will close up you go ahead you’re getting some action and I am not. So have yourself some fun let your hair down a little bit see you tomorrow as she walked to her car I stood at the door to make sure she was safe because you never know who’s outside waiting for you. I am going through some last minute paper work I need to take care of. Right when I am almost done my phone rung, I was not going to answer it, but it was Sugars.

Hey what’s up? It was one of the bartenders. Are you coming down here tonight yes I am on my way, what’s wrong oh nothing we need some change. Well where is Rome? WELL Rome was the one I left in charge at night to make sure the club runs smooth and he’s late. I hate that shit and he knows that so we will be having a talk.

You see I am real press when it comes to time because I have no time to be wasting. Business always comes first, no matter what, so when your ass is fired don’t take it personal, it’s just business. I take my job very seriously and so do any one who’s working hard for whatever they have. So I get to the bar and still no Rome; well I hope nothing happened to him. I give a call on his cell phone but it goes straight to voice mail. That’s not like him to not pick up his phone. I will give him a few and then try again; meanwhile, what band is playing tonight? The river view band is playing, said Sissy, one of the hostess here. She’s very nice she an Rome are pretty close and besides, I think they’re messing around because they go a lot of places together I hear. Let me go, rattle her cage a bit to see what I can find out.

Hey Sissy you see Rome lately you guys pretty close she look up at me like I said something wrong What’s up with that I am thinking I guess I stuck a raw nerve shit. Know I have not talk to him at all today but last night he didn’t sound like himself at all what you mean? Do you think something was wrong with him well I am not supposed to talk about it Rome had a gambling problem what! Are you serious damn, please don’t let him be dead some where did he owe anybody some money I am not sure.Yeah, he did see people don’t play with you about their money and I am one of them you see I handle all my money I can count very well I took my ass to an accounting class so I can learn a few things, because I’ll be damned if someone going to stick me up and tell me I’m broke, like hell! So I nip that in a bud.

Right, watch my money, child please! An hour gone by and no Rome; I guess it’s a good thing I stopped by, shit. The crowd is pouring in, we have a nice one too; damn look it all these people I am so proud of myself let me get it together so I can show myself out there people always glad to see me coming.

I got to go see what’s cooking in the kitchen; damn it smell good in here yaw ‘hey Ms. Stacy how are you?’ I have this chief from the Deep South, sweet home Alabama, and he cooks all kinds of food he used to cook for all the big timers. I am so glad he is here with me; I just love him, he’s such a sweet man and fine too for an older man. I know back in his day he was knocking them down, shit.

OK guys I have to go, love you though so out to the front I go. I see so many people I know. Hey miss lady someone one says; I turn around and it was one of my background singers from back in the day, if you know what I mean, but he cool though. Hi I said, how are you; I see you done pretty good for yourself. I am OK you’re better than OK woman, this is Sugars the spot everybody talks about and I see why it is sweet in here. And so are you, why thank you, so enjoy yourself don’t be a stranger, you hear child, please. That’s why I love my boo, because some people just don’t got it please.

The night was fabulous; I had so much fun and so did everybody else. I sat down, propped my feet up I was so tired and all of a sudden someone came knocking on the door like they ass wanted to steal something. What the fuck. Me and a few guys was still here so we were like who could that be knocking on the door like that.

The blues - meaning the cops. I reach in to my purse, reach deep cause I do stay with a piece of steal, trust and know how to bust it, you think I don’t? I have to it’s register to cause people know I have money; it’s for protection. We all ease to the front and I peak threw the curtain: it was Rome damn you scared the shit out of us. Why you had to knock like that you almost got your ass pop fool and what’s your verdict anyway, you missed a really good time tonight Rome. It was packed, yeah I heard well where was you at?

YOU see I’m cool when you about to be fired; I act like it and sound like it so they feel like they’re in a safe place then I let their ass have it. Let me talk to you Rome in my office before I fire your ass; what you’re letting me go Ms. Stacy? Come on I need my job you sure didn’t act like it when you didn’t show up last night look boy
