About this ebook

Inner Success is a small, smart book that leads readers to get more in touch with the workings of their inner self. Even more than that, it provides a blueprint for making those inner mechanisms work more smoothly. As each of us has an inner self, and often wrestles with that inner self, the subject matter of this book should be personally significant to anyone who happens to pick it up. Inner Success is not a heady, scholarly tome, but rather, is simply written to create a larger self-awareness and self-satisfaction in people who may have thought very little about how they function internally. To say that Inner Success is introspective would be an understatement. It looks completely inward. It is an easy, conversational tete-a-tete that leads readers to identify and sort out many of their own internal workings. It helps to locate the thing called inner self and then identifies processes that are constantly at work in that private world: perceiving, evaluating, emotionally reacting, and many more. As we identify in the book, inner self is a very individual thing. Because of this we believe that every reader will come away with something different. But each, in their own way, will develop a more intimate understanding of their inner self and what's going on when they are alone behind that curtain. The ultimate goal of the book is to help the reader define what success can feel like, and then give the reader some tools to better achieve a larger Inner Success of their own.

PART ONE – A Better Understanding of Inner Self

    Psst! You awake?

    [One eye opening] Hrmprph?

Wake up! I’ve been thinking about something. I need your help.

    (Arm-stretching yawn) This early?

Yes, this early! It’s not like it happens that often.

Thinking? (Sleepy snicker) No. I guess it doesn’t does it?

I’d think you’d be pleased. I’ve been thinking about success. Our success!

(Ears perking up) Oh? Success? What about success?

    I’m just wondering…

    (Yawning)

Why successful people aren’t always, well, successful.

    What?

Well, I’ve noticed that some people are wealthy and quite contented. And other people are quite poor, yet they’re just as contented.

You woke me up for this?

Hang on. I’m building on that.

    (Rubbing eyes) I hope so!

Other people are poor, and they hate it.

    That’s understandable.

    Yeah, it is.

    I think I hear a but coming.

    But here’s what gets me.

    Yes?

Some people are fabulously wealthy, really successful and still they are miserable.

Oh. Now that’s sad. Anybody I know?

Well, it happens quite a bit. A couple of famous names come to mind, Marilyn? Elvis?

    Yeah. Hmm, sad stories.

Uh-huh, very successful people with a bad end. Seems like they had a lot, but they were still looking for more.

    So is this going anywhere?

Well, it’s like I said. It seems to me that people we see as successful, aren’t always truly successful and that makes me think—

    That?

If successful people are contented sometimes and miserable sometimes—

    Yes?

Then what we call success must not have very much to do with being truly successful.

Oh gosh! It’s way too early to talk in circles!

Okay. I’ll take it a little slower.

    Thank you.

    What I’ve been wondering, see…

    Is…

    Well, what is real success?

    Oh. Anybody knows that!

    Okay?

    It’s wealth, power, fame.

Yeah. That’s the outer kind of success: money and stuff. $uccess. It’s what everybody seems to want.

    I’d love to try it!

Sure, but when you get it, it might not be—

    Enough?

    Enough.

    How come I wonder?

Well, I think money is needed, to get stuff.

    Ooh! Fancy stuff, fun stuff!

Yes. And it seems like this stuff is needed to get something else.

    Like what?

Something deeper, more lasting, more significant.

    Like?

Well, I’m not too sure. Maybe it’s some kind of inner sense, inner…uh…wellness.

    You get that with stuff?

That’s just it. You don’t. Money and stuff doesn’t do it. It looks like it should, but it doesn’t seem to.

    Why, I wonder?

Well, that’s what I’ve been wondering too. I think it has something to do with trying to fix inside things with outside things.

    Inside?

Yeah. See, if poor people who are in no way successful can have a sense of inner wellness—

    Yeah?

And they can have even more of it than some successful people.

    Then?

Then there must be something besides outer $uccess that causes it.

So there is an outer $uccess…

    And also an inner success.

    Really?

And I don’t think they are necessarily connected.

Hmm. So which is more important?

Well, if I’m right about this, people want money and stuff because they think it will satisfy something deeper inside them.

    Yeah?

But have you ever heard of anyone
