Unravel Thoughts - Pooja Gopal
Chapter 1
The Art of talking to yourself
As i sit here in my room, resting my troubled back, I look at the sealing and started to wonder again.
All the things that knocked me off my comfort zone. My discomfort inspired questions. I started questioning everything that I disliked
Doubts flooded my thoughts, why wouldn't they? after all it had somehow become a habit over time. Despite all my efforts to make the right decision, life always gifted me with utter disappointment. Sometimes it felt as if I was deliberately put into the situation just so the universe could make fun of me and my decisions. I know I am supposed to learn from my past mistakes, but no matter how much I improved, I was still miles away. I continued to improve, putting in all of my efforts, until I hit a huge wall of infinite possible mistakes. At this point, I couldn't help but laugh out of ridicule. I couldn't help but imagine laughter that never existed. A sense of being put out had its fun with me as well. I felt the coldness of those ignored eyes. I so desperately wanted them to look at me. Why, I asked, slowly looking at the mirror, I failed to find any noticeable quality worth watching? No wonder those eyes were ignored. I had to change. Something or everything, it had to be either or both. In this world of infinite possibilities where everything becomes just something as time drags on, I know now that changing everything was the only way.
Sometimes you just feel lost, don’t you ?. No matter which direction you take a step in it never feels just right. Pause for a moment and look at all the decisions you've made over the past month. All over the place, isn’t it?
All you have left in your wake are a bunch of unfinished things, and trails that lead nowhere. You dream of having your next project be your best work. The vision you had for your life was doing work that matters and making a commendable impact. You would love to make decisions that align with the core of who you truly are. Living a fully intentional life.
Yet, here you are scattered, lost and unfocused. Still left with decisions and actions that never feel just quite right.
Become a Self-Expert
Today, we're so wrapped up in a culture of doing that we're rarely ever given downtime to sit and reflect. This constant cycle of doing even plagues us in our sleep. The moment you open your eyes in the morning, your mind starts racing and the cycle begins again. There is never a free moment from your thoughts and the distractions of the modern world. Even when you try to sit still, you can't help but fidget. It's either your body or your mind pulling you in a new direction.
We have over 50,000 thoughts a day. Over half are negative, and over 90% are just repeated from the day before. That doesn't leave much room for growth and change, does it? In Buddhist thought, your mind is likened to a drunk monkey. If you don't take the time to tame this drunk monkey, your life might as well be run on autopilot. Never actually act for yourself, simply do things out of a conditioned response. There is a way to break free from this societal conditioning, however. Take Your Power Back and Use the Art of Introspection
Lao Tzu said it best.
Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power. If you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich.
Introspection and reflection are all about getting to know yourself at the core, uncovering your values, and then deciding for yourself what the best action to take. You take the power away from the way you've been conditioned, away from the systems that try to hold you in place, and you bring your focus of control back to where it belongs, within you.
I started to kick it all out one by one. My job, my fear of the unknown, my compromises with myself, and finally knocked my ass out of my comfort zone. I started searching for a better, more satisfying career and fought for things I wasn't sure I was capable of. Then I decided to invest in myself (one of the best decisions of my life). The inward journey was difficult at first, but you know why: it always hits you with the harsh truth, and you have no choice but to confront it and say 'okay!!!' Now what? "
Because only then can you move ahead in life.
You can't ignore you. You can’t ignore the truth and brush it all under the so-called ‘Positive Thinking’ carpet. Analyzing not only takes time but also demands that we face up to something that we'd rather forget about.
As an adult, it is easy to lose yourself in a myriad of negative thoughts and to start feeling like a victim by blaming the past. But that will only keep you stuck in the current reality. To change your reality and find your tribe, you need to start working on your inner self and focus all your energy on becoming self-aware.
We cannot change what we are not aware of, and once we are aware, we cannot help but change
– Sheryl Sanberg
So we all know self-awareness is good, but what actually is it?
I already know
