About this ebook

I come in a bit early on Thursday and I have the equipment powered on and the necessary computer programs loaded in the machines. All is in readiness for a customer demo, save the second terminal operator.
I try to contact Goon but I get no answer. The Department Secretary also tries to contact Goon but gets no answer.
The customer people arrive and are escorted to the demo computer lab.
I try to contact the Project Manager, but Matt is not in yet. In desperation, I try to contact the Department Manager. I can’t contact the Department Manager, but the Department Secretary can. I then explain the problem with Goon and that the customer demo people are here and waiting.
Ranny says, “You need to work out the problem with Goon.”
I tell Ranny, “Neither I nor the Department Secretary can get Goon to report for the demo.”
Ranny sneers, “Then you will just have to wait for Matt.”
I tell Ranny, “The customer people are here and waiting.”
Ranny sneers, “Deal with it.”
I can’t deal with the problem.
The customer people can deal with the problem. The customer people go to Contracts and cancel the project.
Contracts hits the panic button.
Personnel tracks down Goon.
Goon says, “I aint a working with Jim Toll.”
Pressed for a reason why, Goon states, “Jim Toll is an ass hole.”
Matt finally arrives at work. Matt then sums up the situation, “Them little boys just tearing at one another. I’ll get things straightened out.”
Matt then comes into the demo lab and snarls, “What’s the matter here?”
I lecture, “There was a customer demo scheduled. The date of the demo was advanced by a day, at customer request. To run the demo requires two terminal operators. Goon decided not to operate the second terminal. The customer walked out and canceled the contract.”
Matt sneers, “Could you not operate both terminals?”
I lecture, “For security reasons, the timing is such that it’s not possible for one operator to operate both terminals.”
Matt sneers, “You’re just full of excuses aren’t you?”
I avoid telling Matt that he’s full of shit.
The contract cancellation results in company upper management getting involved.
I am asked why I rescheduled the demo.
I tell the big bosses, “A key customer person was to be on travel Friday, apparently an emergency type of thing. The customer rescheduled the demo.”
I am asked, “Who did you notify of the demo reschedule?”
I lecture, “I tried to notify Matt, the Project Manager, but he apparently left work early. I notified the Department Secretary of the short fuse change in schedule. I notified Goon, my assigned second terminal operator, of the short fuse change in schedule. Goon gave me only insolence. I asked the Department Secretary to notify Goon, my assigned second terminal operator, of the short fuse change in schedule. Goon gave the Department Secretary only insolence. In the morning, I again tried to contact the Project Manager, but Matt was not in yet.

I'm the co-author, with Sunset Thomas, of Anatomy of An Adult Film.I have 48 novels and over 299 short stories currently published.I spent my early years in the part of Los Angeles known as the South Central. I was known as Whi' Boy, which was sufficient to identify me in that place. I'm a skilled Kung Fu player, using a system that I learned from a Korean I knew only as 'Pak.' It would be easier to tell you the places that Pak wasn't wanted by the police, rather than the places where he was wanted by the police. Pak's Kung Fu system, augmented by some bits and pieces from some Chinese practitioners is quick and effective, or I wouldn't be alive today. My early education was mostly obtained by stealing books from the public library (I always returned them and the Librarian even began to provide me with reading lists.) I did go to high schools, but I never really learned anything there. I eventually graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles, UCLA, with a degree in mathematics.I work as a Systems Analyst and also make a part of my living as a professional gambler (legal in Nevada.) I write science fiction and erotica. My published novels are:Anatomy of An Adult Film (With Sunset Thomas)1. Second Chance: God Killer2. Second Chance: Sky Pirate3. Second Chance: Scroll Seeker4. Chapter 1: Political Hell

I, Jim Toll, am a damn good computer programmer. I find myself stuck in political hell. There is a way out, but it will take time.

My main persecutor is Matt, the Project Manager for the project on which I work. Matt is an intelligent, lazy incompetent.

I was once the Project Manager. However, I got to be Project Manager because of my computer programming skill and my ability to design computer based demos that sell programming work to outside customers. My ability to use programming skills and to explain and sell my computer programming work, based on my skills, does not fit well inside Ranny’s Department operation. Thus Matt was hired to replace me, as Project Manager. I was given no advance notice of my replacement as Project Manager.

Ranny is the Department Manager. Ranny is a criminal. Ranny hires such as Matt, to keep talented people under control. Ranny has faked tests of the systems that he has delivered and the Feds will catch up to him, over time.

Goon is an intelligent, lazy incompetent, with muscle. If physical persuasion is needed to keep Matt’s workers in line, Goon does that.

Given the situation at my work, I would have quit and found myself a saner place to work.

However, I have also developed a very good computer based stock trading program. Due to my desire to escape from political hell, I have bet everything I have financially on an option trade. As I wait for the option trade to wind down, I wait in place, with my salary as a back up.

The latest computer program that I am working on is intended to support a military weapons system.

As is normal practice in such a weapons system, there are two operator terminals. The two terminals must be operated, in tandem, by two trained operators. The two trained operator requirement is to prevent a crazed operator from turning the weapons loose on such as the vicious citizens of Kiribati or the equally the vicious citizens of
