    SUCCESS

HOW TO PREPARE YOURSELF TO OUTWORK THE COMPETITION?

Whatever industry you pick, if you outwork everybody, if you try to be a little smarter than everybody, if you try to be a better salesperson than everybody, if you try to be better prepared than everybody, you've got your best chance. If you don't do it, somebody else will. This is why Mark Cuban thinks you should work like someone is trying to take it all away from you: work like someone is spending 24 hours working to take it all away from you.

According to Cuban, the number 1 reason why people fail is lack of brains and lack of effort. People don't do the work, they don't learn.

When you start a business, you're never in a vacuum with no competition. Unless you're just extremely lucky, there's going to be competition. That means somebody else knows your business as well as you do when you get started. And if you walk into a competitive environment and they know more about the business than you do, or if they know more about your customers, you're going to lose.

However, most people don't consider that. This is what Cuban means when he says they don't do the work: they don't learn more about their industry, and they don't even know about their business. You've got to put in the effort to know more about your industry than anybody else. That's the brains part and that's the effort part as well.

If you're competing, you better know what you're doing, otherwise the big industries are going to kick your butt and you're not going to outwork them. This is what usually kills businesses early on more than anything else. Mark Cuban can, within a 5–10-minute interview, tell if a person is not going to make it as an entrepreneur. He can tell by their passion, their focus, and their preparation.

HOW MARK CUBAN COULD START CHANGING THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY?

There's no easy explanation why generic drugs which cost pennies to make are sold with a markup of more than one thousand percent. One of the prime suspects is pharmacy benefits managers, the middlemen who negotiate with drug manufacturers and pharmacies on behalf of insurance companies. However, everyone involved seems to take a cut along the way, with a convoluted mix of inflated prices, secret rebates, and discounts.

Mark Cuban, who's worth an estimated 4.5 billion dollars, has had enough. It's ridiculous what the pricing for generic drugs is, Cuban said. And just like that, Cuban is taking on these absurd markups by opening an online pharmacy where patients can buy generic drugs with low and transparent prices.

The idea for the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs Company grew out of one of the most notorious pricing scandals of the last decade. As CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals, Martin Shkreli, raised the price of the decades-old anti-parasitic daraprim from 13.50 dollars a tablet to 750 dollars, that whole fiasco, compounded by skyrocketing costs
