Introduction
Battlefields to Gardens
Hey sis. Allow me to take you on a journey. Go and grab your favourite drink. An iced caramel frappe? Maybe some hot Ribena? Whatever it is, it’s time to make yourself comfortable. Get ready to create an environment that allows you to flourish in your most authentic self.
Whoever you are, whatever you’ve done, wherever you’ve come from ... you are welcome here. You are accepted. You are seen. Your feelings are validated here. Over here, your brokenness is traded in for beauty. The currency of your pain is exchanged for strength and balance. God’s not afraid to hold your shattered pieces. I know that the same God that healed me is still in the business of creating masterpieces.
Whatever your current circumstance, I want you to look back at your life and test God according to His faithfulness. As He was with you then, so is He with you now. I declare over you open doors and blessings. You are about to go into a season of springing forth.
Your ability to sustain those blessings depends on the version you choose to become right now.
Although this book is written for all my ladies, I want everyone to know that the reach isn’t limited to just women. This book is great for the parent who wants to know how to navigate parenting a young girl, for the husband who supports the healing of his wife’s inner child, for young boys who desire to walk in healing and growth, for social workers who care about the mental wellbeing of young children. Whoever you are, I invite you into a realm of divine wisdom.
The title Battlefields to Gardens is inspired by a prophetic word released over me at the end of 2021. Like King David in the Bible, we have all been through our own battles. Whether we were left bruised or bleeding, each scar tells its unique story. As ugly as the scars may be to look at, it’s a testament to God’s hand upon our lives, and in all situations, we must give God praise. Besides, we’re still alive to tell our story, right?
When you hear the word ‘poppy’, what immediately comes to mind? Remembrance? Death? War? When I think of poppies, I think of life after a period of death. It’s a symbol of new beginnings. I believe that through this book, God is causing growth where there was once war, and He is causing beauty where there was once bloodshed.
Now you see, not only are poppies metaphorical symbols of new beginnings, but they are also key ingredients for painkillers. Scientific research shows that poppy plants contain alkaloids, which is a key ingredient in morphine. For those who may not know, morphine is a painkiller used to relieve severe pain, for example, pain caused by major trauma, surgery or even labour.
Isn’t that something? The poppy was birthed in a field of pain, on top of the corpses of fallen soldiers. But it’s the same flower that carries the potential to bring healing to perpetual pain, even after many centuries.
Now isn’t that a word for someone right there? It’s easy to limit the poppy to its symbolism after World War One. However, perspective forces us to look beyond the past and find the power in pain. We could miss the silver lining when our perspective is laced with bitterness and contaminated with resentment. When we master our perspective, we snatch back our power and become untouchable forces to be reckoned with. Oh, I felt God on that!
Throughout the book, you will go through several exercises that I have titled ‘The Planted Tree’. This exercise is inspired by Psalms 1:3, which states, He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper
. These exercises are designed for you to prosper, not just in the short term but in every season. These exercises include stimulating, thought-provoking questions – created to dig beneath the surface and treat the roots so that you can produce high-quality fruits.
This is for your transformation. This interactive guide has been curated to help you uproot any weeds, nurture your healthy seeds and create your garden. I have studied my personal places of war to showcase the delivering power of Jesus Christ and help you create your own unique blueprint to navigate healing and walk in greatness.
For what the Enemy meant for evil, God is turning it around for your good.
For the powers of darkness have no authority over you.
For you have felt the flame, but you have not been burnt.
Are you ready? Take my hand. Let’s go, sis.
