Dedication

I dedicate this book to God our Almighty for allowing me to write this edifying book and to my late grandparents Timothy Dladla and Anna maDludla Dladla who passed on when I was three months old. My grandfather took on my parents’ role while my mother worked in Johannesburg and my father was not present. I can imagine him waiting for me on my way back from preschool. He would prepare any available meal. I remember his authoritative voice on a face with no smile but topped by eyes humbled by empathy and love. His smile stayed within his loving, caring heart.

I remember him shouting: Your mother left you and is working in Johannesburg, but his words were followed by a smile. He passed away in 1978, but before leaving this earth requested I visit him. I was away at school in nearby Mooi River, but returned as swiftly as possible. When I entered his room, he still flagged me out for being late. He died the following day and only years later did I understand why he chased me away. We had an immensely tight and intimate bond and he knew his passing would break my heart.

To my late mother Constance Dladla and her late sisters, my late aunts Magdalene, Catherine and Agnes, who also raised me as their child. They taught me about life and planted the spiritual seed as my provision for life.

This book is my pride, joy and fulfilment as I had been longing to write the literature to teach the nation and edifying books to heal readers who will identify with my experiences. I began writing creatively as a nine-year-old child and this book considers some of the unpublished short stories written in high school, as well as the songs composed and lyrics recited even as a small child.

In 2004 I joined a creative writing class and had an article published in Agenda Feminine Volume 64 of 2004 based on my personal experiences. My aim was to help and heal divorced women struggling to secure maintenance through the courts.
