This Crazy Coaching World
To an outsider, coaching may look simple and enjoyable. But we on the inside know different—coaching sports can be a crazy world, and a grind.
A major reason why coaching is often neither simple nor enjoyable is what I call the Sinister Truths. These are simple truths that can make the job of coaching difficult and crushing. Why I call them sinister is because by the time a coach learns of them, it is much too late. The damage is done and the coach pays a price.
I see too many coaches struggle today, quite often for reasons not of their own making. I want to make one thing clear right from the start: their coaching lives, your coaching life, can be better—that’s why I wrote this booklet.
I went through a period when I struggled with my coaching. It wasn’t the Xs and the Os that were hard, it was the other parts of coaching—the Sinister Truths. My struggles went something like this:
