It can be hard to develop a close relationship with God. We all fumble and try to do our best. But it’s not easy. It requires humility and patience amid distractions and wishful thinking. Further, some of us don’t feel worthy to get closer to God. We feel like we’ve done so much wrong that trying to grow closer to God is pointless. We may even think that God isn’t interested in us. However, this isn't the case.

The real difficulty is that once we feel unworthy, it’s quite unlikely that we will spend time with God to develop a close bond with Him. It would be like spending time with our father, who is mad or upset with us. It just doesn’t work well at all. We can’t feel open to talk to him because we fear repercussions. However, this isn't the case at all. God is merciful and ready for us to return to him in prayer and supplication.

Introduction

Being the light of Christ in a dark world can be difficult to do. Yet it is the thing that we are called to do as Christians. Jesus showed us how to do that throughout the Bible. Even in his day, he did not walk in the world among saints. That would have been easy!

Instead, Jesus walked with and hung around Pharisees, hypocrites, and tax collectors all the time. His goal was to be a light in the world of darkness. People hated Jesus and some even despised Him. Yet, He kept going and became increasingly steadfast in his goals. Jesus believed that He had to heal these people and make them whole again. We are all called to heal and love in our families and communities. Knowing how to melt their hearts of ice can be hard. Each person will be different. However, if we love them wholeheartedly, most cold and closed people will respond. To act with love in a cold, belligerent world takes a lot of courage. It is hard to know how to deal with people who do not deserve our love.
